Couple at work got exposed when the last volcano shut down air travel. Sales guy was at a conference in the country when it turned out he was abroad with the gf. Suitcase outside the door waiting for him when he got home.

Apparently, the initial eruption became a 1km long fissure that has settled into a single vent for now, emitting an impressive amount of lava already... but the pressure under the site is continuing to grow, and local experts expect more vent sites to open up.

I developed a mild fascination with Icelandic eruptions because the first of the three recent events began when I was stuck in 14 day isolation re-entering NZ back when our border was Covid restricted and I spent some of the hours watching various youtube channels covering it.
It's funny to see the same channels spring into life with each eruption and the various lengths they go to trying to drive content. Give a man a drone and he'll fish for a day...
this current eruption is tapering off with output volumes down 30-50% of the peak. Apparently, there's a 50/50 chance it'll stop within a couple of weeks...
but there's considerable seismic activity just to the east and one enterprising youtuber (Just Icelandic) bought a thermal imaging drone and has mapped out areas where the ground temperature is up considerably. There's more to come from the Reykjanes peninsula with some suggestions the area could be entering a phase of renewed activity that could last decades. Meanwhile, there's activity on a seismic line further east, under a glacier.

Those of you hanging on the edge of your seats for Icelandic volcano action might not have long to wait. There's a build up of magma underground near the Blue Lagoon larger then the 3 previous eruptions and overnight my time, the Blue Lagoon finally closed due to the threat. She's about to go again.
Don't know how this one's going to go. If it does.. EQ activity dropped off today even though there was a mag 5 last night that had guests running out of the hotel..
If it goes, this lava historically is very liquid and non explosive..

They already do in Iceland; they've extensive geothermal power plants, & hydropower.
The problem for them is it's hard to export it, so from what I remember, their plan was to build bauxite refinement plants, so they could use their abundant clean, green power to refine aluminum, & then export it.

The entity who puts the transaction forward encrypts something pointlessly. The rest of the network try and crack the encryption. There is absolutely zero purpose for the encryption challenge except to find a winner. The winner is verified by the others and receives a tiny amount of bitcoin and the transaction is recorded on the block chain.
Such a stupid waste of compute, and it only ever gets more complex over time.

When it comes to youtube channels and Iceland eruptions, there's usually a sort of explosion of content from a variety of people jumping onto the bandwagon and rehashing content endlessly... and once you look at one your feed quickly gets populated with more and more of the damned things.
I've been looking at one channel fairly exclusively this time around, this guy's speaking manner can be a bit clumsy but he dives into some decent data and he's the one that pioneered the use of a thermal imaging drone to detect hot spots in the ground, with a few other channels using that data afterwards and presenting it without crediting the source. He's talking about Grindavik here in this latest clip released today,
