President Biden and US politics catchall

The repubs obsession with Taylor is something to behold.
The Music Modernization Act was largely a response to the rise of digital streaming services. It was a result of the frustration by artists and music production companies with streaming services not paying out royalties. It had broad bipartisan support in Congress and several different component bills were combined into a single bill. The bill was not initiated by Trump, he never mentioned it his campaign in 2016, and it passed both the Senate and House unanimously. Yes, Trump signed it into law but had nothing else to do with it. Naturally, he claims all the credit for it.
Why do this? Trump can't stand the fact that the entire country will be paying attention to the Super Bowl rather than him. So, like the insecure toddler that he is, he felt compelled to scream "look at me!" and throw ketchup at the wall. In his twisted, addled brain he is probably hoping that the commentators during the game will talk about his post. Fat chance. I do like that he will be watching the game hoping in vain that it happens though.
I hope I am wrong but I can't see Biden beating Trump if he gets to the election.
Nothing against Biden but the general anger and disillusionment of the lumpen proletariat in the west plays into a demagogue like Trumps hands.
He can say anything and the rubes lap it up.
He is the collective manifestation of the id of the US packaging up all of the base, venal, racist desires in one stupid package.
WW3 within the next 4 years.

His latest gaff, that will of course be defended to the tilt by his lick spittles, was a gibe at Haley, asking where her husband was, & why he wasn't supporting her on the campaign trail in South Carolina.
If he'd bothered to check, he'd know that her husband is; he's currently deployed with the rest of his South Carolina National Guard Battalion in the horn of Africa !!
But I suppose that makes him a sucker as far as bone-spurs is concerned, but the non-brainwashed voters of SC might take that as a slight against their husbands & brothers.

I try to avoid reading direct quotes from him in the same way I don't check lasers are working by looking directly into them but the comments about Haley are a new low in crassness.

Nah, they're mild compared to the stuff he's said before, about McCain, or at the WW I commemorations etcUncle fester wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 9:56 pm I try to avoid reading direct quotes from him in the same way I don't check lasers are working by looking directly into them but the comments about Haley are a new low in crassness.
He considers anyone who puts Country above self a moron, & he's never been shy about saying so.

Dems took Santos seat on Long Island quite handily in the end, despite the scare tactics in the MSM about how it was too close to call
9% isn't, "close", not when Santos only squeaked over the line in his election

Mad cunts will always be mad cunts and when a Republican Party decides that's where their votes lie then this is what you get! I honestly dont think the withering criticism and nonsense of his position even gets through - he will proclaim it is the will of god and carry on regardless. They are just as dangerous as the Taliban.

Biden's a liability, the Democrats need a candidate that can cut through the fog of bullshit.
Well, according to GOP House Speaker and fundy nutbar Mike Johnson, the framers actually intended that bit to protect the church from the state.
"Religious Freedom" innit.
Everyone else has simply been misinterpreting its true intent for the past 200+ years.
Tucker got played by an even better Russian propagandist than he is (surprise, surprise)...
Putin trolls ‘soft’ Tucker Carlson
He was ready for a heavy hitter, but he got a bantamweight.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday said he “didn’t get complete satisfaction” from last week’s interview with Tucker Carlson, because the right-wing U.S. pundit failed to take him to task.
Speaking to Russian state TV, Putin said he had thought Carlson was a dangerous person, “because I honestly thought he would be aggressive and ask so-called sharp questions. And I wasn’t just ready for that, I wanted it, because it would have given me the opportunity to respond sharply in kind … But he chose a different tactic.”
Of course, had Putin actually wanted to go toe-to-toe with a formidable opponent, the Kremlin wouldn’t have hand-picked Carlson for his first interview with a Western journalist since he launched his full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Carlson, the famously Russia-friendly ex-Fox News host, is known more for a penchant for cozying up to autocrats than for probing reportage.
Putin, who famously enjoys trolling Western figures, smirked while describing Carlson’s passivity to Russian TV propagandist Pavel Zarubin: “He tried to interrupt me several times, but still, surprisingly for a Western journalist, he turned out to be patient and listened to my lengthy dialogues, especially those related to history, and didn’t give me reason to do what I was ready for. So frankly, I didn’t get complete satisfaction from this interview.”
During the over two-hour-long Carlson interview, Putin delivered a 20-plus-minute soliloquy about Russian history and mocked Carlson over his failed attempt to join CIA.
Putin also took the opportunity to troll Joe Biden while speaking with Zarubin, saying he would prefer to see the current president reelected than a return of Donald Trump following the November ballot.

Former President Trump said he purposely conflated Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) with GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley last month.
“So it’s very hard to be sarcastic when I interpose. I’m not a Nicki fan, and I’m not a Pelosi fan. And when I purposely interpose names they said,/

Today is a Good Day !
That's damn near half a billion dollars in judgements in the last few weeks !
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/16/nyre ... uling.htmlA New York judge on Friday handed Donald J. Trump a crushing defeat in his civil fraud case, finding the former president liable for conspiring to manipulate his net worth and ordering him to pay a penalty of more than $350 million that could wipe out his entire stockpile of cash.
The decision by Justice Arthur F. Engoron caps a chaotic, yearslong case in which New York’s attorney general put Mr. Trump’s fantastical claims of wealth on trial. With no jury, the power was in Justice Engoron’s hands alone, and he came down hard: The judge delivered a sweeping array of punishments that threatens the former president’s business empire as he simultaneously contends with four criminal prosecutions and seeks to regain the White House.
Not only did Justice Engoron impose a three-year ban preventing Mr. Trump from serving in top roles at any New York company, including his own, but the judge also applied that punishment to the former president’s adult sons for two years. One of the sons, Eric Trump, is the Trump Organization’s de facto chief executive, and the ruling throws into doubt whether any member of the family can run the business in the near term.
Mr. Trump will appeal the financial penalty — which could climb to $400 million or more once interest is added — but will have to either come up with the money or secure a bond within 30 days. The ruling will not render him bankrupt, because most of his wealth is tied up in real estate.

After conducting an 11-week trial of Trump Org on a case where the New York Attorney General alleged that Donald Trump engaged in a pattern of fraudulent business practices over the court over course of many year, Judge Engoron ordered Trump to pay a massive $364 million in total fines. Trump was also stripped of his business certificates in the State of New York for 3 years, which makes it virtually impossible for him to continue to conduct business in the state.

When can I read his obituary with great pleasure?
Is there not interest on top of this of c$100m? Also if he wants to appeal does he not have to lodge the full amount with the court or at least a sizable chunk of it plus collateral on his properties. If the later then it would be usual for this to be 125% - 150% of sum required. Either way it is a load of money plus he has the Carroll case to pay as well. He will be up to his neck for c$600m?

He could get a guaranteed bond, but he's going to need someone willing to underwrite the bond. If anyone trusts his claims behind such agreement more fool them
Deutsche Bank is probably the only bank he could have considered as a likely lender but doubt even they would touch him with the longest barge pole you could find.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 1:03 pm He could get a guaranteed bond, but he's going to need someone willing to underwrite the bond. The Judge also ruled that the traitor can't do business in NY for three years; DB do business in NY, so they are barred from doing business with the Traitor for those three years !
I think there's a real question if he should appeal the ruling, because he's unlikely to win, & to do so will be expensive, & will prove risky to the long-term viability of his companies.
As usual, his ego is writing checks his businesses can't cash.
It gets better... If a bank has a branch in New York, he can't do business with them..
Plus there's a quiet IRS investigation going on, and the Dems are compiling a dossier on how much he overcharged the SS for rooms etc, which is illegal...

Interest is 9%, so as of today it's estimated $450m.

another excellent reason not to fuck around with an appeal you're almost certain to lose !
.... especially with the cretins he employs as his lawyers
