British Track and Trace app doesn't actually work unless you pay for your covid test.

Hold on? Isn't the whole point of everyone wanting the Google/Apple solution, to remove all identifiable data from the Governments hands? If you start putting in your test results, then you're identifying yourself to them surely?

Again, not sure it's the same app but for ours you upload the random IDs if your positive and then the system can send out alerts to any IDs that are deemed close contacts. At no stage does it link names with other names.

The Google/Apple solution I thought was because only they had the tech to do it? But the govt wanted their own because they wanted to keep the data? I can't remember.

I just don't see the point in the app if it can't track and trace because the only test results it'll accept are privately gained tests which the vast majority of the public don't have access to.

I think the private tests referred to are the Serco/various of Dom’s mates companies provided nationally under ‘NHS test and trace’ but which actually have fuck all to do with NHS and are provided by private entities under highly lucrative contracts with no performance hurdles/penalties.

I hadn't realised that the curfew meant that the pub/bar had to be closed, doors locked and staff all gone by 10:00pm!!
And the snivelling shit responsible for this:
When the issue was put to the full cabinet on Tuesday, resistance flared again when business secretary Alok Sharma and environment secretary George Eustice suggested that it would be safer to taper the curfew with last orders at 10pm, rather than force everyone on to the streets at the same time.
But Mr Gove insisted that there should be a strict 10pm ‘guillotine’.
Well, well, well. One rule for us and another for them
Facilities serving alcohol on the parliamentary estate are understood to be exempt from the earlier closing time on the basis that they fall under the description of “a workplace canteen”.

Yes, yes they are. I don't know how long you've been away, but there's been this growing sense of exceptionalism in the UK, which was always an undercurrent for the country as a whole but is now coming in to play on an individual basis.

It’s important to focus on the minutiae in the message. It clearly helped to direct the discussion to the right place. Otherwise we might be in danger of discussing the actual problem.

As I understand, there was no attempt by MPs or Parliament to evade the curfew. Bars and restaurants on the Parliamentary estate are exempt from the rules because they are classed as workplace canteens, in the same way as canteens at hospitals, prisons, army bases and homeless shelters are exempt. However, when the new rules came in last Thursday, Lindsay Hoyle decided that the bars in Parliament should abide by the 10 pm curfew despite being exempt. So no alcohol has been served in Parliament after 10 pm since the curfew came in.

When an enterprising journalist reported this morning that Parliament was exempt, lots of MPs and Lords demanded that Parliament should respect the curfew (even though it already was). No-one has spoken in favour of the exemption for Parliament. This is a complete non-story.

Interesting, I hadn't read about this previously
Tests for Covid-19 that show on-the-spot results in 15 to 30 minutes are about to be rolled out across the world, potentially saving many thousands of lives and slowing the pandemic in both poor and rich countries.
In a triumph for a global initiative to get vital drugs and vaccines to fight the virus, 120m rapid antigen tests from two companies will be supplied to low- and middle-income countries for $5 (£3.90) each or even less.

The tests, which look like a pregnancy test, with two blue lines displayed for positive, are read by a health worker. One test has received emergency approval from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the other is expected to get it shortly. The quick and easy but high-quality tests will allow mass screening of health workers, who are dying in disproportionate numbers in low income countries.
Wealthy countries that have signed up to the Access to Covid tools initiative (ACT accelerator), as the UK has, will also be able to order the tests. The initiative was launched in March by the WHO, the European commission, the Gates Foundation and the French government.

In return for a volume guarantee from the Gates Foundation, the companies are making 20% of their production available to low- and middle-income countries and 80% to the rest. Germany has already ordered 20m tests and France and Switzerland are following suit.

The UK government is keen to get rapid virus tests, which were central to the “moonshot” proposals leaked recently, but it is not clear if they intend to buy these tests.

Our tosser of a PM doesn't even know the lockdown rules he's introduced in NE England over the past 24 hours
Andy Bell from Channel 5 just asked Boris Johnson to clarify whether different households can meet in pub gardens in the North-east and it appeared - from the ensuing waffle - that the PM doesn't know either
Erk. Boris Johnson also appears totally confused by question about whether people in the North East can meet outside in beer gardens. Talks about Rule of Six *elsewhere* and says locals should follow the guidance. “As I understand it not six outside”. What?
Andy Bell asks PM to clarify the new(ish) Covid rules. What follows is an answer which does not answer the Q and is so confusing I am going to have to rewind it in an attempt to understand.
One of the Education Ministers couldn't answer the same question earlier this morning when being interviewed

Well that's a first. An apology from the bumbling bufoon
Apologies, I misspoke today.
In the North East, new rules mean you cannot meet people from different households in social settings indoors, including in pubs, restaurants and your home. You should also avoid socialising with other households outside
Misspoke my arse!! Anyone listening to him could tell he hadn't got a clue by all the usual ums, errs and absolute waffle when he doesn't know what he's talking about

And also the lower end of Covid death estimates, which is more likely to be in the region of 2 million.

What? The reason for a million covid deaths is because last year there were 500,000 flu deaths.
