I wonder how much of that is skewed by some very expensive pubs and Central London. Still under a fiver in a couple of local pubs, plus Wetherspoons obviously.
£6-90 for a pint of Guinness in The Devonshire Soho last week!!!!
Wine bars around The City will charge you £7 for a 330ml bottle of Becks!
Wine bars have always been expensive - I used to work in a few Corney and Barrow's in the City. They knew their market was full of wankers!

Europe only looks more expensive due to the crap exchange rate at the moment
Price of beer in SE England went from £2.90 in 2002 to £5.90 today
that's still only $11.

Cheap shit beer is around $12 a pint. Craft, up to $17 a pint.

We have a ridiculous beer tax in Oz - the wine industry have parliament's ear. Beer goes up in price every 6 months by mandate

Craft brewers have dropped 2 cans from a six-pack to compensate.

It's galling but I've dropped back to drinking imported German beers as it's cheaper - proper bonkers

It really is. If you are importing something that's >90% water and can be made locally then you're being fucked.

p.s. I buy imported German beer all the time, but it's not coming quite as far.

Trade rules as well innit

Shit's fucked.

On a related note, I got lots of memories of my trip down there this Xmas - I'd forgotten, there is a great Brewery just outside Eden with a London Bus parked in the Beer Garden :wtf:

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Not sure there's much point in getting a rental for a week-long coastal pub crawl, though.

Might have to bus it instead.

The Inner West in Sydney has Jim's Pub Tours - started off as a stag do type thing but now is hop on/off

Maybe I should start "Mat's Brewery Tours"? I'm looking for a new gig....

*bump*

I'm gonna be in Wollongong next Wednesday, then heading down the coast to Merimbula/Eden for the next few days, on the way back to Melbourne. Also hoping to do a day trip to Bendigo and Ballarat after that (Sun 28th or Mon 29th).

Pretty much winging it tbh, so my itinerary is largely flexible. Keen for a quick pit stop with any posters who may be in that neck of the woods...

Greetings from sunny Wollongong. I'm heading down the coast tomorrow, but decided to spend this arvo watching the locals getting messy at the Figtree Hotel Anzac Day Two-Up comp.

We went to the local Bowlo and the Two-Up was off the charts.
