The Official Scottish Rugby Thread
The most Scottish thing will be what actually happens. We will manage to sneak eight place, and then the Sharks will win the Challenge Cup and take the champions cup spot off us.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
Ross Thompson to Edinburgh. Not sure how much sense that makes?
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Embra A have four hookers in the 23 for the big game tomorrow night against Watsons, Paddy Harrison starts at 2, Adam McBurney is at 6. Harri Morris is the replacement in the middle of the front row and Jerry Blyth-Lafftery is the backrow sub
Franco does not like his style of play and he has not been able to adapt to what Franco wants. The SRU want to see if he can fit in at Edinburgh given the investment made in him to date. They have been getting a lot of stick about giving more support to non Scots (eg. Charlie Savala) than to Scots and seem to be taking that on board.
Fraser Brown rumoured to be moving into a coaching role at Glasgow, and Ben Cairns at Edinburgh..

He's closer in style to Ben Healy than (for instance) Hastings who is incoming at Glasgow. I actually think this could be an ok move, Edinburgh's only other 10 is Cammy Scott who Everitt doesn't seem to trust.weegie01 wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 12:22 pmFranco does not like his style of play and he has not been able to adapt to what Franco wants. He's a year older than Healy which really puts his development (or lack thereof) into sharper focus.

A much stronger Glasgow A side selected for the game on Friday, let’s hope this one doesn’t get horsed. Good to see the two Callums starting at prop (Smyth and Norrie).

So much for all the doom merchants in Scottish Rugby whop were saying he'd be permanently on the bench behind Ramos. Got to admit I feared that a bit myself, but he's forced himself into the first choice spot.

Aye especially when he's only two years younger than Kinghorn and Tuipulotu. He isn't a young pup anymore.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 1:29 pmHe's closer in style to Ben Healy than (for instance) Hastings who is incoming at Glasgow. Starting for the biggest club in Europe, ahead of Ramos, in the European Cup final, means he's one of the best about. As we already knew.
Delighted for him, seems to have kicked on being in France.
Toulouse also top of the table in France so the double is on for them

Great for Scotland too. Kinghorn, Smith, Patterson is an excellent roster. We do need our very best to move on occasionally to ensure we retain a deep enough pool.Biffer wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 5:07 pm Starting for the biggest club in Europe, ahead of Ramos, in the European Cup final, means he's one of the best about. Kinghorn mentioned that he spent 9 years with Edinburgh and didn’t beat Leinster once. That is a sad indictment of Scottish club rugby.

I’m absolutely all for our best moving out, but then I look at it just from an international perspective really rather than the pro clubs. I also think someone like Ross Thompson would be better off going to D2 for a couple of years rather than moving to EdinburghKingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 6:25 pmGreat for Scotland too. Despite the disappointment of losing him to Edinburgh and the URC, I think all of us thought it was a move away that BK needed and so far it seems to be working wonders. I don’t really think we can expect some players to improve if they are spending a decade in the same environment from a young age
All the money you made will never buy back your soul
He certainly appears much happier playing his rugby with Toulouse. He has a huge amount of talent and needs to be pushed really hard to even get close to his limits, hopefully he will realise this and become the player everyone thought he would be. Now he knows how good he can and should be he could be a key player and leader for National team for next 5+ years.

To be fair, within that 9 years there was a 6 year gap (between September 2017 and November 2023) where Kinghorn didn't play in any of Edinburgh’s games against Leinster (which included a couple of home wins).
He played against Leinster 5 times during his Edinburgh career, only one of which was a home game (lost 20 - 33). He came off the bench in that fixture in September 2016 where the starting Edinburgh backline was 15 Bryce, 14 Allen, 13 Tofilau, 12 Burleigh, 11 Brown, 10 Weir, 9 Fowles
That's a shocking backline. Geez.topofthemoon wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 12:02 pmTo be fair, within that 9 years there was a 6 year gap (between September 2017 and November 2023) where Kinghorn didn't play in any of Edinburgh’s games against Leinster (which included a couple of home wins).

Tom Brown was very quick and Phil Burleigh wouldn’t have been out of place in a high quality backline, but that wasn’t a high quality backlineBiffer wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 12:40 pmThat's a shocking backline. Was in the stadium on Saturday - BK played an absolute blinder. His cover tackles were beyond brilliant and saved two certain tries. Of course Dupont got MotM, because he always does regardless of how he plays, and in all honesty Willis would have been equally/more deserving of that accolade...but arguably BK's impact on the match was on a par with those two.
Toulouse's defence was magnificent to see - they completely negated the Leinster / Ireland tactic of multiple short running lines bamboozling the defence so they don't know where the ball is by simply standing their ground not worrying about it and making dominant hits as soon as a guy in blue ran into contact. And if there was a break, they had a never-say-die scramble defence as a back-up. Scotland take note - that's how you beat Irish rugby.

I was also there on Saturday. Kinghorn had an excellent first half and was very secureunder the high ball and very visible in both attack and defence. He was a bit quieter when shifted from FB to wing in the second half and spilled one important ball and missed a couple of tackles.. Dupont was head and shoulders MoM and I would have had Willis and Roumat (who was excellent) ahead of Kinghornclydecloggie wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 7:21 am Was in the stadium on Saturday - BK played an absolute blinder. Bloody good day out and am pleased that the better team on the day won.
There is tons of bitching about Carley from the swarm in the other place but I thought he had a pretty good match.
