Could this sport BE any more posh and exclusive?
Of all the sports at the Olympics it's probably the least posh. Equipment is expensive and that is its biggest barrier to entry, but it is in no way exclusive

Really enjoyed that too. Did I hear correctly that Korea has not lost in 40 years? Unbelievable record.

That's a bold choice of trunks.

I was talking to a colleague about this today. She thought an apology and slap on the wrist would have been more than enough.

I was a daft thing to say, but the reaction does seem a bit strong.

Productivity in my Turkish team has been basically zero this morning as the women's volleyball team start their campaign with a 5-set thriller. The 'sultans of the net' are the biggest sporting symbol outside of football here so it is compulsory viewing.

Tom Daley gets his silver to make it 5 medals from 5 Olympics.

Although I have been slightly irritated by the BBC's relentless focus on him in previous years, he does have quite some record:

- Five Olympic medals (one gold, one silver, three bronze)
- Four Commonwealth Games titles
- Four World Championship titles
- Five European Championship titles
- 26 major diving medals

It's all a bit much, but I much prefer coverage of him to that of Peaty. Well done on Peaty for recovering, but his problems were mainly self-inflicted. Daley seems to be a genuine good role model, and that performance today with Noah Williams was brilliant.

you plug your weapon in to the scoring box and it detects when you've made a hit

Their final dive was incredible, only topped by the astonishing dive from the Chinese.

Edited to add, the BBC's attempts to turn the Olympics into a version of Britain's Got Talent by focusing on individual athlete's sob stories is really over the top. Just show us the bloody sport.

Terrible luck for Pidcock. If he pulls this off it will be incredible, and very unlikely.

Puncture in the middle of a big move with him and the French lad moving away. Lost about 40seconds.

It is telling how good he is that people will still be considering he could win this.

Pidcock's legs should be good. He had to leave the Tour with covid but hopefully that was precaution more than anything.

Counter argument is that this is such a big effort to catch back up.

I'm not sure which spring you're referring to, but your bodywire goes through your sleeve and out the back of your jacket. Some fencers might have something to attach it to the back of the jacket so it's not dangling loosely when they're not plugged in to the box. Also in foil and sabre you have to wear an electrified jacket over your uniform which needs to be connected to the box with a crocodile clip.

Is it usual for road cyclist to swap over to mountain biking and vice versa?
Thought they'd be quite different disciplines.

There's a big reel at the back of their lane with the wire running into it.

Not usual, but Van Der Poel and Van Aert are masters at cyclo-cross and can do mountain biking too.

Amazing ride by Pidcock

While they are pretty different for bike handling, all the disciplines require insane levels of cardio fitness.

Most pro level road cyclists will be decent mtb riders but unusual for folk to be at the top of both sports. Peter Sagan, Cadel Evans and Marriane Vos are notable dual riders. A larger crossover between cyclio cross and road riding due to the seasons running summer and winter.

Just watched the BBC highlights of the mountain biking. Showed Pidcock 40 seconds behind then cut to him right behind the leader, none of the chase.

They really are a bit rubbish at this Olympics so far

I don’t

They now just advertised the women’s GB 7’a was on. At half time.
