Phil Dollman leaving Exeter to become player-coach at of Sidmouth

The man has been a very good player for Exeter. Hopefully he'll do well at Sidmouth and we'll see him in the Pro14.

I watched a bit of Exeter playing this weekend, and, even though they were getting soundly beaten (must have been about their 3rd XV for the most part), Dollman looked excellent. Made a gorgeous outside break from his own 22 with a beautiful step in particular. Didn't look like a player at the end of his career. Good luck to him.

Only just noticed the lack of Elliot Dee...Pivac must have seen the lineout on Friday night!

Disappointed by the absence of Ashton Hewitt too.

I'd have had Hewitt over Holmes, Lewis-Hughes over Moriarty and Keiran Williams over Johnny Williams

Sam Parry has been playing really well & am pleased to see him get a call up. Bit more bulk than Dee

Arguments to be made over fringe players, but the stating XV lookes predictable. Notable omisions, Rhodri, Other Rhodri, Beard, Dee, Jarrod, Halaholo, Amos, SLH.

Selection wonders about Macleod, Brown, Moriarty, Hardy, the ever mysterious Watkin, Holmes, North and Mr fifth columnist himself, Johnny Williams

Nothing against Parry - as you say, he's been playing well...but Dee has been in the 22 the majority of the time in the last 2 years, and suddenly he drops out of the squad, whereas Elias stays in? I feel that Elias is a little lucky.

He's just felt the after effects of welsh rugbys tie break, do you play for scarlets?

Elias - Dee
Lee - WGJ
Macleod - 8 other better flankers who don't give 6 pens a game away
Hardy - Rhodri
Patchell - Jarrod
5th columnist - Halaholo/Kieran Williams

Have to keep that funding going

Probably (definitely) some Scarlets bias from Pivac.

I didn't understand the hype of WGJ to begin with, but how do you go from being selected to start a 6N game, to out of the squad completely?

Seems to be an element of blooding new players in other areas to build towards the next world cup, and then on this occasion Pivac chooses Lee...who is more than tried and tested. Makes WGJ's exclusion more baffling. If we want to build depth WGJ makes much more sense....and that's before you look at the fact he was in the last squad, as you say.

Quite possibly. He's not in the match squad for the Worcester game announced earlier

He told me he was born in Cardiff, raised in Cardiff and he’s Welsh through and through, and I can tell by his accent. He was very, very keen to represent his country, and his country is Wales.
Apparently a 1 minute phone call about Sheedy playing for Wales. Pleased to hear it. I thought it might be a bit more of a discussion considering he played for England in that Barbarians game.

Anscombe reported out for another year with knee injury, probably the end of his career at top level sadly.

He'll probably get picked by the Saes just to hedge his bets. HTF has the Golden child not been picked?

Dragons (v Zebre Rugby): Jordan Williams, Jonah Holmes, Nick Tompkins, Jamie Roberts, Ashton Hewitt, Sam Davies, Rhodri Williams (c); Brok Harris, Elliot Dee, Leon Brown, Joe Davies, Matthew Screech, Harrison Keddie, Taine Basham, Ross Moriarty

Replacements: Richard Hibbard, Greg Bateman, Aaron Jarvis, Joe Maksymiw, Ben Fry, Tavis Knoyle, Josh Lewis, Adam Warren
Looks a good side. Bateman on the bench, set to make his debut...backrow with proper balance with Basham at 7. Strong backline, good options in the front row starting and on the bench, good backrow and, for me, still the best lock combination we have starting. Still the one area I want to see strengthened though. Surely we can sign a big lumping Saffer from the Cheetahs or Kings?

Well thats a load of fucking shit! It's a real pity if he can't play again.

It;s good to see the likes of Zammit, Sheedy and Lloyd in the squad though.

I have today off so I can have a listen at this one. Hopefully the Dragons won't disgrace themselves in the first home game.

Enough talk about potential - home game, full squad...we need to put in a proper performance against Zebre tonight. And that lineout better function like they've met before or I'm going to lose my f*cking mind.

We were well beaten, but the scoreboard could/should have looked a little less lopsided. It's criminal to lose as many lineouts as we did, especially on the 5 metre line. If we can get that backline going - Tompkins, Holmes, Hewitt, Jordan Williams - then we should be able to play some entertaining rugby. Not to mention Basham is back - he's worth watching whatever else is going on.

There's nothing in that backline to get going, and there's no one up front to tie in defenders, no one backing up to recyle the ball quickly, and no one who can flat foot the first defender at speed to stretch the second defender.
Tompkins may win you a game or two, but that's all there is, the rest are still well below pro level

We're a work in progress, but the problem now is not personnel, it's systems and execution. Couldn't disagree with you much more about there being nothing in the backline. Once again you pick a bizarrely negative take.

If that's not the Dragons in a nutshell. Should be going into the half time break with a BP and healthy lead instead it's 15-10.
