Reporting from Southampton
Around 10 anti-immigration protesters have arrived in Southampton this evening, while hundreds of counter-protestors are marching in Grosvenor Square, chanting "racists go home" and "racism off our streets".

From what I can gather Brighton did us proud too. The thugs were massively outnumbered, hugely, there were thousands v a handful. There was a "celebratory atmosphere" according to the local rag.
That rag carried a picture of a broken egg on the pavement - that was as violent as it got.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
There are non-white men, women and children who live and work in the streets around the area in Brighton who have not been terrorised or had their businesses trashed like we've seen elsewhere. There was talk of a particular hotel being targeted, that didn't happen. A work colleague of my wife from the charity they work with is particularly vulnerable and she would not have coped with violent disturbance around that area, when I say wouldn't have coped, I mean that in the most extreme way. Another friend works with a translation service which helps migrants. Their place of work didn't get trashed.
On the other hand, lots of business shut up shop early, fast food, supermarkets, pubs, shops, offices etc, so there is a loss of revenue and productivity there.
Overall though, probably happy white and non white men, women, children and all points in between.

7 days in, last night was a non-event, looks like that's it?
Heavy media management going on, the same frontpage down to the photo used on the Mail/Times/Sun/Express/Mirror/Guardian. Blair levels of media management. Needed as last night feeding anything bad into the news cycle would've increased the risk of it spilling into week two.
Wouldn't be surprised if the entire event is memory holed. Inconvenient for the right because it shows how dangerous the shit they come out with always was, and the views some are hiding behind the word "immigrant" (gammons definitely don't like being told the literal truth that the Southport killer is British and not an immigrant), as always their take will become extremely bizarre and involve not taking responsibility and playing the victim, some of them are hiding very dark shit under "we want our country back"/"stop the boats"/"legitimate concerns". Inconvenient for the left because it shows how deep divisions are, which isn't something a Labour government that wants to push through and achieve something can worry about.
Starmer is looking good so far. Lots of right wing media noise was trying to pressure him into conceding to the "protestors", that is was wrong to call them far right and they could only be stopped if they were listened to. That was the mistake Tory PMs made which is why they achieved nothing and what produced race riots. Somehow there's little focus on Starmer, in the media imagination he sits in the background of events some even started saying he was AWOL, he's actually dominating everything their reporting is just useless.

So in the cities with high levels of immigration to counter protests saw off the tiny anti-immigration protestors. And that is in areas where high internal and external migration has meant house prices are unaffordable etc.tabascoboy wrote: Thu Aug 08, 2024 6:36 amShouldn't judge on appearances I know but...they really do "look the type"Tichtheid wrote: Wed Aug 07, 2024 8:38 pm

It's the towns with low immigration where these riots are. Because their grievances aren't actually with immigration. They're with successive governments have completely left the areas behind. And successive politicians in said governments have been the ones blaming immigration rather than themselves. As how it always is and as how it'll always be.
You're missing the important bit, has Starmer conceded anything and been derailed onto nonsense about "immigrants" (which means "anyone who isn't white" to a lot of people)? He has not so that is not "how it always is". There's a chance he'll actually get something done then.I like neeps wrote: Thu Aug 08, 2024 7:13 am So in the cities with high levels of immigration to counter protests saw off the tiny anti-immigration protestors. I see the usual suspects are on about Two Tier Kier having noble racist thugs sentenced to be deported to Australia immediately whilst a murderer hasn't even been publicly executed yet.*

Well that's helpful for the counter-protest movement and Labour. Hardly helps in trying to take the higher moral ground, did he really think this wouldn't be recorded/reported?
Labour councillor suspended after video emerges of him urging crowd to cut people’s throats
Party says speech in Walthamstow ‘completely unacceptable’
Labour has suspended a councillor over a speech at a counter demonstration calling for the throats of anti-immigration protesters to be cut.
Dartford councillor Ricky Jones has been suspended by the party over the video, which shows him in the middle of a cheering crowd at a protest in Walthamstow, east London, organised to stop the far-right from targeting asylum centres and the offices of lawyers helping asylum seekers.
In the speech on Wednesday evening, he said: “We need to cut all their throats and get rid of them.”
He followed his speech with leading a chant of “free, free Palestine.”

Free free Palestine in there too? Whatever your view on that conflict, it's not exactly the issue at hand.

The Palestinian flag seemed to be at most of the counter demonstrations which I don't think is a great look TBH.

There's clearly an element of your 'stop the war', socialist worker, Corbyn crowd at these things. Not an issue when the counter demos have been as peaceful as they have. Clearly an exception here though and hopefully he's dealt with robustly.
To an extent, but you could quite easily say it’s also hijacking an awful incident to promote another cause. Who gives a shit about the twats followers ffs
Googling the woman arrested for starting the rumours about the Southport killer, small business owner (clothing company) and lives in a £1.5m house. Sunderland woman arrested for rioting another small business owner (removals company), the police released the raid footage on her house, she looked to be doing okay.
I've posted a bit about this phenomena before. Anyone with more than surface knowledge of this part of the UK economy, knows how much effort Frog Face has put in. He has an investment newsletter "Fortune and Freedom", no idea what the funnel is there but it exists and has readership (I've read some, it's not just FTSE tips). Some Frog Face talking points that don't make sense to a wider audience come from his efforts in this area (the conspiracies about digital currency and ending paper money, which has tax implications for some small businesses). There's also spivs running their expensive subscription "training programmes" that are Reform adjacent if you see any of their stuff, as in they openly say "vote Reform". Coming into contact with these people, you quickly realise it's a cultish bubble they're not aware they're in, outside discussing the numbers of their businesses they're crazy.
Not many had "small business owners" on their bingo card, doesn't surprise me though.

If successful, such action would give hunters the same protection as minority groups such as the Roma community or LGBTQ+ groups.

Fortunately the injuries seem not as serious as it could have been: "The force added the girl required hospital treatment for "serious" but not life-threatening injuries, while her mother's wounds were "more minor"."

Not content with just pumping raw sewage into the lakes & waterways of Britain, someone has moved onto toxic heavy metals that are almost impossible to remove.

If the UK had regulators or an ED that was worth flying fuck, then maybe the polluters would be scared enough of them to not just pollute & pay the fine; but would be scared that when, not if they got caught, the consequences would be insolvency, & prison !!!!!
Start to make the maximum fines a percentage of revenue, & not just piddling amount, & make corporate officers personally liable in cases of negligence or malpractice & you'; have some chance of seeing behavior change !

I do hope Labour take the bull by the horns & build a series of new prisons to deal with the overcrowding.
I also hope they situate these new prisons in locations appropriate; like for example in the constituencys of the last number of Home Office Ministers who completely failed to build them, while pushing more people into the prison system !
I think the Bumblecunt would enjoy having a view of new prison from his swimming pool !

Would certainly be interesting to hear Braverman's views if, say, there was a proposed new super prison in Fareham. Surely she wouldn't embrace NIMBYism...?

Yeah, It's a long way from my favourite airport. But the new proposals have an extended terminal building, so hopefully that'll improve - it'll need to given the scale of passenger number increase they're talking about.clydecloggie wrote: Wed Aug 21, 2024 9:49 amCity Airport is an overcrowded shithole at the best of times so I must admit I dread what it will be like with even bigger passenger numbers.Paddington Bear wrote: Tue Aug 20, 2024 9:47 am Rayner greenlights City Airport expansion against the wishes of Labour run Newham council. City airport is great when it's quiet - straight onto the DLR in 30 seconds flat, and cheap flights outside of office commute times. Although I've not used City much now that Flybe are out of operation.
Much like the DLR, it's not much fun when it's busy - they really need to think through connection to TFL if they extend.
