Well done Lydia Koh she finished off with a birdie to take gold for NZ
And with it a place in the Women's golf Hall of Fame. She will be happier with the Gold medal though.

Another NR to claim a medal for team GB athletes. The latest a 14 second PB.

Not necessarily the colour medals they all would have wanted but they've turned up and performed very well.

Hamish Kerr wins our 9th gold medal. This for the high jump

Edit - no he doesn't. Commentators have buggered it up and it's a jump off.

Another national record for GB.

The athletics team can be proud of their performance in the Olympics.

The US will take that world record at some point.

Fantastic from Kerr

The 'collision' in the men's madison looks more like a deliberate take out to me.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

Probably. Dutch team get disqualified because of it though.

You would have thought that the French would have got out and sorted the weeds growing out of the pavements and road verges along the marathon route.

And I would hope a significant ban as well. Incredibly reckless and dangerous.

I don't think he's been banned, but the Dutch rider, Willem van Schip, has also been fined 1,000 swiss frances (about £900) for his headbutt on Ollie Wood or 'improper conduct and behavior that endangers another rider (blow with the helmet)', as IOC call it. He's not due to ride again in the Olympics as there's only the Keirin finals left for the men.

Is this the 1st Olympics in a while where Britain haven't had at least one person win multiple golds?

Yes, last time we didn't have a multiple gold medallist was 2000.

Although golds were hard to come by this time, we still won 65 medals overall, which is the same as in London in 2012 and one more than in Tokyo. People in the USA will be told by their papers that we came 3rd in the medal table.

The ladies basketball final is possibly the worst standard of basketball I have ever seen screened on a television. Absolutely rubbish and just highlights the ridiculousness of Caitlin Clark not being involved

The excitement masked the sheer lack of quality. The three point shooting was appalling, the handling is poor and they only seem to attack the basket to draw fouls. It's telling that 28 of the US's 67 points came from the free throw line and France weren't much different. It was ironic that the France player stepped over the 3 point line for the last throw, when she knew she had to shoot a 3 pointer.

The ladies volleyball was a completely different matter. Superb to watch.

GB with 14 gold, 22 silver, 29 bronze, provoking a slight ‘hmmm’ from some people. But ask them to compare that to Atlanta 92 (1-8-6). A large number of young medalists in there as well who’ll be back in LA.

One of only three countries to take 60+ in four consecutive Olympics.

And yet you couldn't even beat Team Australia which has half your population and consists of three less nations.

Mediocre at best......

Crikey, does that mean we've massively over-achieved yet again in the all important Medals Per Capita metric?

Fuck, we're good.

I don't know which was the more embarrasing Olympic performance, that or the Aussie runner who somehow thought the marathon finished after only 1km.

Personally I think overall number of medalists is a great metric for Olympic success, obviously only counting team sports winners once.

The more people going home with a shiny thing around their neck, the merrier. I would prioritise that over who won the most events.
