The Official Scottish Rugby Thread
Some of Glasgow’s attacking play in this game has been superb. Their defence, on the other hand, has been shithouse.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Should be a yellow there for impeding Rowe after the kick through.

That was like watching mid 2000s super rugby!
Er, it’s on the BBC site, so maybe more than a rumour.

C’est magnifique, mais ce n’est pas le Rugby.
It was certainly entertaining, but I suspect Franco & Murchie will be having a chat about the optional defence , though the same could be said of Sherratt and Jenkins for Cardiff.
All the plaudits will rightly go to Sione , but in the pack Dempsey was also immense, with some hude carries , some of Jacks quizzical expressions at some of the 'interesting' refereeing decisions were classic, although to be fair the ref was at least consistent for both sides
Adam Hastings will also have seen how difficult it will be to prise the 10 jersey out of TJ's hands - he was my MOTM tonight.
So who else impressed, Ben Afshar provided a really cool head at the end after Dobie has at times a pretty torrid match ( although he should have been provided with a bit more protection - I thought we missed Darge in that respect )
That's the first time I've seen Patrick Schickerling , and I really like the look of him, is this the Tighthead backup for Zander that Glasgow have found?
and finally Duncan Weir , again cooled everything down when things were getting frantic to close out the match , threw a wonderful dummy before the pass for TJ's try, so Hastings not only has to get past Jordan , he also needs to get passed Weir.
Back to the top of the table ( for tonight anyway)

Lager & Lime - we don't do cocktails
I thought a good point was made by the commentators.
Amid all the angst about Glasgow's defence etc, every time Cardiff looked like they were coming back Glasgow scored one or two tries seemingly out of nothing. Which is what Leinster have been doing for years. The opposition think they have them on the ropes, then suddenly they are two scores behind out of nothing.

I reckon it’s in time for the AIs next month.
I was well impressed with him last night.

I'm always really impressed, and somewhat jealous as an Embra supporter, how Glasgow can create an attack from almost anywhere on the pitch. They are fantastic at seizing their chances when they come along, can go through middle or go wide, play at pace and always seem to have support runners both left and right once a line break has been made. Ball carriers almost always seem to make the right choices and their offloads go to hand.weegie01 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 8:23 am I thought a good point was made by the commentators.

At times last night Cardiff players looked bemused when Glasgow attacked and were caught on their heels any number of times - for example I dont think the defenders were thinking Rowe was going to straighten the line and attack them for his first try and were both looking for where he was going to go out wide - however their attempt to tackle was embarrassing. The attacking lines Glasgow take is a result of excellent coaching and hard work on the training ground coupled with high levels of fitness, pace and skill sets.
Scrum and line outs need work and the loss of big Ritchie will weaken the line out options. Hopefully JdP is coming back to full fitness. However the tackling rate of the young guys in the pack was excellent. Just a bit of set piece tidying up required?
Well, this is going swimmingly. 22-0 Lions after 21 mins.

Schoemans boet play lh for the Lions.
Edinburgh are absolutely abject. Something like six missed tackles in that last move alone. Multiple lost lineouts. No idea what to do with the ball when they get it. It’s actually embarrassing to watch. The players are better than this.
Out last two spells of possession have resulted in aimless kicks away because we ran out of ideas. Lions get the ball back - immediately run in another try. Just, fuck sake.

Kade Wolhuter breaking the line. Stormers will kick themselves letting him go.

48-0 at HT
48-0 down at HT. I don’t give a shite who the opposition are or where the game is being played, there is no universe in which this is remotely acceptable. Right now I’m thinking not one of those players should ever play for Edinburgh again. I expect I will calm down a bit later, but the starting side has 11 players capped by Scotland. Fucking play like it.

Everitt should be left in SA. Was always ridiculous giving him a new deal.
Players need a real shake. Get a new man in with a remit to get rid of the same underperfoming players.
In fact new coach should be given the slack to make the hard calls that the SRU won't make with regards to player retention or not renewing contracts.

Embra coming back nicely
So I see they found a bit of pride somewhere and at least made it look a little (and only a little) more respectable, but they still managed to leak a try with a YC advantage. Some reputations should be shot to pieces after that clownshow. Who, out of that rabble, deserves to play for Scotland next month? Nobody, that’s who.

It’s difficult not to think that might be part of the problem.
It reminded me of the game v Wales when (spit) Matt Williams was in charge, when Wales were out of sight at HT, and the players looked like they threw away the coach’s game plan at HT in an attempt to salvage some self-respect.

Seriously?
All the money you made will never buy back your soul
Which jersey? 10 or 12?

A wins a win but not the best performance overall.
Don’t like to criticise too much but the ref today was woeful. It’s a big competition and they need to have better refs than that
