flies love dying/decomposing things :P
President Biden and US politics catchall
Despite there actually being far more detail on policies than in the Pres debate last week. People are stupid.

Worse, early reports suggest Pence was alone with a female fly and will now have to lash himself until repentance is earned before god and Karen. But only for the flies, Mike believes god is down with his lies.
That poll shows they were more anti-immigration than literally everyone else being polled, no? And much more of them wanting deportation efforts.Fonz wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 11:09 pmThey did, but like any popular or "grassroots" movement in this day and age, there was no central leadership, organization, focus, etc. You had anti-Obamacare protests, anti-immigration rallies, "stop the spending" protests, anti-socialism protests, the list goes on. Probably a good deal of regional variation too. Point being, the movement's aim soon became pretty imprecise, not unlike BLM.
If you believe Pew, most committed Tea Partiers were actually pro-citizenship for illegal immigrants:
I think if there's a line to be drawn from the Tea Party to Trump, it's mostly going to have something to do with anti-establishment sentiment.
I appreciate it's still apparently >50% that are okay with it but the numbers tell a story in themselves.
The other point I'm making which is getting lost a bit is that the Tea Party directly pushed candidates and "names" that were happy to outright lie and spread conspiracy theories from the start. It was anti-intellectual and anti-reason. It just got taken over by someone who literally embodies all of that.

Doesn't Pence refer to his wife as Mother in that weird religious nutcase fashion.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 8:42 am Worse, early reports suggest Pence was alone with a female fly and will now have to lash himself until repentance is earned before god and Karen. Stolen from another bored - In his own way he looks as much like an alien wearing a human skin-suit as his boss does – it's the oddly smooth face, the squinty little close-set eyes, the Lego hair, but mostly it's the utterly dead expression. He gives off a sort of terrifying evil blankness, behind which though evidently lurks an ideologue who actually knows what he's doing and means it. Which makes him more disturbing and dangerous even than Trump's merely narcissistic and aggressive, empathy-devoid scattergun brand of witless mayhem.
Someone else likened him in appearance to Odo from Star Trek Deep Space 9.

It's the same kind of, "Branding", that the Minister for the 19th Century does. You just need to see who he crawled into the sewer with, to see that his Christian credentials are non-existent.

and these are the kind of, "Good People", that the Plague gibbon was encouraging to protest about lockdowns, & wearing masks, & in one of the States he urged them to Protest; because if happens to have a Democrat GovernorThere were good people on both sides !
You can see why they follow him though .... they're fucking morons .... well armed morons, but still morons !
I know that when I plan on committing terrorist acts, I like to make sure I get the training on video ... no point is being half-arsed about about being a cretin. The Beeb wrote: The FBI says it has thwarted a plot to abduct and overthrow Michigan's Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
...
Officials say the kidnapping plot involved six men and plan to hold a news conference. Mrs Whitmer's office has yet to comment on the arrests.
...
According to a sworn FBI affidavit, an undercover law enforcement source attended a June meeting in Dublin, Ohio, where a group of Michigan-based militia members discussed overthrowing state governments "that they believed were violating the US Constitution".
"Several members talked about murdering 'tyrants' or 'taking' a sitting governor," the charging document states.
...
The group wished to gather about "200 men" to storm the capitol building and take hostages, including the governor. They hoped to enact their plan before the November presidential election. If that failed, they planned to attack the governor at her home, officials say.
The militia members held weapons training in several states, and at times attempted to create bombs that were faulty , the FBI says, adding that their training was captured on video.
The only pity is the murderous bastards didn't succeed in killing themselves with the weapons they planed on turning in others.

Looks like Chris Morris has some material for a sequel to Four Lions.
Pence displays the classic demeanour of someone living in perpetual denial. He is obviously intelligent enough to know his whole life is a charade, but external forces (community, marriage, political orientation, fear of death, cultist DNA, etc.) created a robotic personality which I found absolutely fascinating, if not actually disturbing. The American experiment - never fails to deliver.

All the while, Rhodes said, Jones was telling them they would "meet in another place" and chanted, "mother, mother, mother"—"an apparent reference to his wife who lay dead not far from the altar,” according to the Post.

I love that Private Bone Spurs is limping away from the 2nd Debate. You know it's just down to him & his 'roid rage, because the tweet came out so soon.
He claimed victory in the 1st ... and then the actual reviews, & polls came back; & he was shown to have turned off the majority of voters; especially those he absolutely needs; the undecided.
So his master plan is to kiss off the 2nd debate; where he could reach millions of voters ... & decided to do one of his fluffer forums; where he gets to jerk off to a few thousand idiots; who were already going to vote for him .... Smart !
Better yet, the next debate was going to happen in Florida, a State that should be solid GOP, but has been changing direction over the last few weeks, & now he's going to give Biden a free forum to point out all the shit he's doing that is going to fuck over the elderly. Well done Plague Gibbon !

From the pics thread. The storey here is that NBC, I think, won't show the episode of Splitting Image that includes this characterisation of Trump and Melania, accurate as it is, for fear that it will upset Sir Thin Skin.
Both depictions are spot on, IMO, though if I were to quibble, I'd have the top of her head a little flatter and lower to the brows, and despite perspective, Sir's hand is far to large to be true to scale.

Or chin... are we sure he's actually a vertebrate?
In a way then we're on the same page, there's a big connection to be drawn in terms of the angry anti-establishmentarianism they fostered.JM2K6 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 8:54 amThe other point I'm making which is getting lost a bit is that the Tea Party directly pushed candidates and "names" that were happy to outright lie and spread conspiracy theories from the start. I think it's a looooong reach from anti-establishmentarianism to "will literally just lie about anything and promote liars and anti-intellectuals".Fonz wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 7:32 amIn a way then we're on the same page, there's a big connection to be drawn in terms of the angry anti-establishmentarianism they fostered.JM2K6 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 8:54 amThe other point I'm making which is getting lost a bit is that the Tea Party directly pushed candidates and "names" that were happy to outright lie and spread conspiracy theories from the start. Mind you, the idea that it's anti-establishmentarianismimustfindashorterwordtouseforthis is a tricky one to digest. Because it largely looks like racism and various phobias (i.e. homophobia, xenophobia, et al) and the uh economic anxiety seems to be a one-way street: Trump actively making things worse for his base and literally just looting the country for his own benefit while breaking every campaign promise has led to more fervent support from these lunatics, not holding him to account to improve their own circumstances. It's the hate that sucked them in, it's the hate that keeps them going, and it's the hate that Trump is actually able to provide in spades (and nothing else)

"Maybe I'm immune"Even if Trump is feeling better since receiving the steroid, he still has a more than one in five chance of dying of COVID-19 given that he required supplemental oxygen, Bob Wachter, chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco, told Business Insider.
That probability increases given his additional risk factors, such as age and weight, and he has an even higher chance of needing intensive care if his respiratory symptoms worsen down the line.
"He's on a medicine, dexamethasone, that can kind of cover up some of the symptoms," Wachter said. "It can make you feel good even though the disease is still pretty bad in you. It doesn't really change the risk that much."
...
If prescribed to healthy patients or those with mild symptoms, dexamethasone can destroy a well-functioning immune system, Galiatsatos said. Trump's getting prescribed the steroid would suggest that he's sicker than his doctors are letting on.
...
Michelle Gong, the director of critical-care research at Montefiore Medical Center, said in a Q&A with the Journal of the American Medical Association in March that COVID-19 patients often seem to be "doing OK, and then at around the five- to seven-day mark they start to get worse and then develop respiratory failure."

At it again. The sign off is so mildly delivered, yet absolutely the point that needs to be made.
