Such a great game - dozens of game changing moments per test.

I wonder if anybody had the foresight, and bravery, to back a NZ clean sweep at the TAB. Not to mention what odds they got...

Rarely can a change of captain have worked such wonders!

Which reminds me of the need for a big shout out to the often-maligned Gary Stead. Yes, he's kept Southee both as captain and player for too long, but it's impossible to argue with his results, and he just keeps producing them, even with what looked like a weakened team.
Now he just needs to find a way to beat Australia — the last frontier.

It could also have marked the end of Kohli's incredible test career. Rather sad to see a great like him depart after a very poor series.

One of the weirdest games I've ever watched. NZ batting was atrocious, though to be honest the Lankian bowling was up to the task. Then some very improbable wickets for the NZ attack interspersed with some fine line and length. Bemused is what I take from the match, happy with the result however, series alive!

There's some reputations left in tatters out there. Looks at the Heat line-up, hello selectors stop jizzing over the non-performing Victorians.

Tim Southee has announced his retirement...

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/360488037 ... st-england

either after the home series against England, or maybe after one last test against Sri Lanka... unless NZ qualify for the Test Championship final. After one of those, then.

At this stage.
He announced on Friday that the upcoming three-match test series against England, starting on November 28 in Christchurch, would be his last, with the full squad to be named later this afternoon.

If the Black Caps qualify for next year’s World Test Championship final, he will remain available for selection for that match.

Southee will decide after the England series whether he would like a white-ball swansong against Sri Lanka after Christmas.
He will have been an international cricketer for almost 17 years by the time he does hang up his bowling boots, with his 36th birthday falling between the second and third tests.

He made his debut as an 19-year-old against England at home in early 2008 and has so far played 104 tests, 161 one-day internationals and 126 Twenty20 internationals.

In tests, he has taken 385 wickets – second only to Sir Richard Hadlee amongst New Zealanders – in ODIs, he has taken 221, and in T20s he has taken 164. His total of 770 international wickets is the 10th-best of all time.

He has played in four ODI World Cups and seven T20 World Cups and was a member of the Black Caps squad that won the inaugural World Test Championship final in 2021.

He captained the Black Caps 14 times in test cricket, taking on the role full time from 2022 to earlier this year, once in ODIs and 29 times in T20s.

SA were given a tennis ball when they bowled. Zero swing or turn.

I think India’s ball was made in the sidewinder missle factory. It’s like not even the same type of ball.

Miller finally hits “that ball” out of the ground in the 11th over and they have to bring on another one.
