Yeah the Santa Ana winds are very strong, & make the fires very dangerous, & make fighting them from the air with tankers impossible

Trump supporting Big Tech guy from Plantir on Newsnight BBC2 last night suggesting the reasons for fire were, in no particular order, not raking leaves from the forests, Newsom not allowing water to be moved from north to south because of small fish protection (refuted by scientists), radial hard left commie administration and Biden. He however also stated that the UK basin the grip of a hard left commie administration and that Jess Phillips had never met a CSA victim and had no interest in meeting survivors at all in order to protect a hard left conspiracy. He then rambled on about freedoms etc but at that point I was almost breaking my pledge to not drink alcohol. When it went back to the studio panel in London all five of them looked at each other in complete disbelief and were stunned with this guys comments!
Im not sure I can stand 4 years of this utter bullshit. More worryingly I am of the strong opinion that this isnt anything these guys believe but see it as a route to gaining obscene amounts of power and influence and to roll out their high tech products without recourse to regulations or responsibilities etc. In other words to make obscene amounts of money - and they MAGA twats are too thick or greedy to see they are being used and abused. Very worrying!!!

We need to see more journalists loudly calling him out on lies, even if it means they get no more appearances at press conferences. Stand up for the truth, ffs!dpedin wrote: Fri Jan 10, 2025 9:14 am Trump supporting Big Tech guy from Plantir on Newsnight BBC2 last night suggesting the reasons for fire were, in no particular order, not raking leaves from the forests, Newsom not allowing water to be moved from north to south because of small fish protection (refuted by scientists), radial hard left commie administration and Biden. The bros also seem to be stretching their 'DEI' bullshit to the lesbian fire chief and not hiring good enough fire fighters.

THERE. IS. NO. GLOBAL. WARMING.
Move on. Nothing to see here.
Move on. Nothing to see here.
I suspect one thing coming out of this will be a rethink of current state government / emergency services protocols regarding when to go and when to stay.
More fatalities may be recorded before the last of the fires are extinguished, but at present the ratio of fatalities to buildings damaged destroyed is heavily skewed in favour of the latter.
Insurance companies will not be happy with this and neither will many (former) home owners.
There is already a lot of video footage out there showing people walking around outside of burning houses or running from burning houses. The fact they were able to do so and survive, plus video evidence of unburnt vegetation nearby, indicates this was not generally a high energy fire as regards radiated energy per area.
In a high energy fire they would be collapsed and / or dead toute de suite.
What much of the the footage was showing was buildings burning down afte the fire front had passed, and in some cases the 'fire front' likely comprised nearby homes or whatever that were aflame because of ember attack driven by extremely strong winds.
If it is true the relevant problem an inability to deliver sufficient water to areas that need it and not an insufficiency of water as such, this should be addressed.
IIf / when that happens, evacuation protocols should be rethought to give building owners the option to stay and attempt to prevent premises catching fire, shelter in it during the worst of the outside blaze and move outside, where safe and necessary, extinguish it.

Reuters reported yesterday that the estimate of the number of people killed in Gaza in the first 9 months of the war needs to be revised upwards from 42,000 to 65,000. Over 50% of those deaths were women, children and people over the age of 65.
The Norwegian Refugee Council are reporting that there are more than 2million people displaced across Gaza, many of them lacking even basic shelter, such as a tent or tarpaulin.
But the wall to wall news in the UK is about a bunch of millionaires losing their homes in California. Presumably those victims are the right colour.

Of course, silly me. After 12 months it's not important any more. Much more significant that Mel Gibson's mansion burnt down.
There is a bloody thread you clown. People have a right to discuss other issues.Chrysoprase wrote: Sat Jan 11, 2025 9:37 pm Of course, silly me. After 12 months it's not important any more. Much more significant that Mel Gibson's mansion burnt down.
