Good win! Not like Scotland to actually hang on
Yaaaaaasssssssssss
Terrific win that, particularly with no regular test starters. Hastings was normal Hastings, apart from that the backs were excellent, front row wood up really well which is encouraging, thought Masibaka looked good too. Lot of positives to take from that not least our first ever win v the Māori in NZ

Yup. Sparkling play. Entertained all the way

Yet more evidence that Hutchinson has pissed on Townsends shows at some point, class as always
To be honest I thought Turner was 50/50 good and poor - his first throws were shocking and running into players instead of space or soft shoulders is so old now, plus he got isolated
Yeah, not sure he deserves to be in the 23 ahead of PH next week. Ph had a beauty of a throw to the tail early in the second half over two pods of opposition lifters.Tichtheid wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 5:52 amSlick wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 5:46 am Christie looked great then understandably faded a bit, Turner was very good and Bayliss.

Recorded it and just watched it. Decent win, great game, but I'm astonished that no is talking about the appalling stamp on Smith's face. It's 07mins and 10 seconds into the game.
It was early, and I seem to have got Turner wrong, but I thought Hutch had some lovely touches throughout the gameGrahamWa wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 6:06 am Thought Hutchinson was anonymous until I noticed his gash cross field kick.

I wasn’t able to watch the game, but that’s an encouraging result. Especially when you consider how raw our forwards were in particular, and that the Maori recently spanked Japan (who of course just beat Wales). Well done, lads.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Didnt see that first time round just saw Smith rubbing his napper after the breakdown. It looked a deliberate stamp to the head to me and pretty dangerous. Must result in a citing and some punishment?Blackmac wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 6:32 amRecorded it and just watched it. Overall a good result and excellent performance. Lots of new faces and new combinations yet they looked pretty organized and played well. Lots of good performances and given this was a 2nd/3rd string pretty impressive against the Maori in their own backyard.
Cummings was superb today. Possibly his best international performance. Definitely pushed himself up the 2nd row order as Ryan was poor and Bierne was appalling.
Anyone questioning what Huwipoloto offer over the Irish centres or a mix, seriously has no clue.
At the moment is see 4 Scottish backs and hopefully white will get a chance to prove his worth in the 23.
Schoeman has been really solid but is definitely 3rd in line.

I see that Scottish-born Tom Roebuck has scored twice for England against Argentina.
(This is meant as TIC. He’s qualified for England and absolutely entitled to represent them if he wants. It just frustrates me that we get shit for fielding the likes of Duhan and Steyn, whereas nobody will ever describe Roebuck as ‘foreign born’.)

Aye, but it's only fuckwits that are bothered about it
Such a shame for Zander. Apart from the fact I think he was the only Scot to tour last time and not get a Test cap, the THP position is wide open right now, and we might have seen a starting XV with 5 Scotland players in it. Not sure if that would have been an all-time record for a Test match?Blackmac wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 2:09 pm Cummings was superb today. Possibly his best international performance. It took me a couple of minutes to find it, but 1989 - first test had Hastings, Chalmers, Sole, White and Calder (capt)
That reminds me, still have to listen to the Calder podcastTichtheid wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 9:18 pmYr Alban wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 9:12 pmSuch a shame for Zander. Roebuck is English educated and English trained. He was in England from at eldest the age of 5.Yr Alban wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 9:04 pm I see that Scottish-born Tom Roebuck has scored twice for England against Argentina.

He's only comparable in that he was born outside England but in all other comparators it's completely different.
He is a closer equivalent to John Barclay. I don't recall Barclay being called foreign born often if at all.

Whilst I haven’t seen him named as such, I’ve seen numbers of foreign born players in world cup squads which only add up if you count Barclay.
My favourite on this topic was some eedjit on the Guardian comments section talking about Alex Corbisiero being born in the United States blah blah blah. Then Corbs’ dad showed up in the comments section and told the guy just how English Corbs was
Oh, I’m aware of all this. But when we get shite thrown at us, it’s generally for the number of ‘foreign’ born players (happens every RWC) and nobody cares about heritage. Barclay was never described as such as an individual but was certainly included collectively.Big D wrote: Sat Jul 05, 2025 11:36 pmRoebuck is English educated and English trained. Yes but it's generally the Saffer, Kiwi, English etc born, raised and "rugby educated" that draw these articles and then the likes of Barclay is included for completeness. Commentators would talk about Tuilagi being Samoan born and his Samoan heritage. It's not like they completely ignore the other foreign born players when commentating.Yr Alban wrote: Sun Jul 06, 2025 8:23 amOh, I’m aware of all this. It is practically impossible for us to have an exclusively homegrown team but if we had there'd have been very little noise about a Barclay or a Ryan Grant (although he was educated in KL) other than a side note in commentary.
