Do we need to talk about Jordie?

I don't agree with the combination either, but I can understand Foster's reasoning.

I think Jordan is a much better fit for the 14 jersey, because of Jordan's pace, he will be able to complement the other two's (Clarke, Barrett) attack by being in support and finishing off the line-breaks.

Jordie Barrett covers 11-15 and should be on the bench ahead of Mackenzie. You can also bring him off the bench to kick 60 metre penalty goals at the later stage of matches, another reason Rennie has been using Hodge in the 23 jersey for the Wallabies.

A backs bench of TJ Perenara, Reiko Ioane, Jordie Barrett, would be extremely ideal going forward.
That backs bench covers most bases pretty well. Hopefully Reiko returns suitably chastened from his dumbfuckery.

The wild card will be Laumape. A natural starting 12 rather than good utility cover, but unlikely to edge out ALB or Goodhue any time soon. Personally I'd love to see Lumpy and ALB get an extended run together.
This.

9. Smith
10. Mo
11. Clark
12. Lumpy
13. ALB
14. Jordan
15. BB

Bench
JB
Goodhue
TJ

Though if too controversial, switch Lumpy and Goodhue. As Lumpy is a specialist 12, and the other 2 can play both 12/13, and switch if needed when the Lump comes on.
For me, that bench is too slow. We've had huge success in the past with quick players like BB and DMac coming off the bench against tired defences. Went away from that last year at the WC with SBW and Jordie and it didn't work. Ideally, I'd want a bench like:

21. TJ
22. Ioane/Laumape
23. DMac/Reece

I think that's a better balance of power and speed. To me, Jordie either starts at fullback or misses the 23.

Think we should retain our starting backline for the next test, with a bench of Perenara, Ioane and Jordan.

That's what I'd like to see too, but Fozzie has this obsession of trying to cram as many playmakers as he can onto the field.

After 60 minutes on Sunday, Mo'unga was at 10, Barrett at 15, J.Barrett at 14 and Dmac at 11.. 4 playmakers!

There's simply no need for McKenzie on the bench when you have Jordie, Beauden, and Richie in the starting 15.

I don’t get the argument for having JB come off the bench to kick 60m penalties. That’s a weapon you want for 80 minutes, not 8. Early penalties can apply scoreboard pressure which is not something to be taken lightly.

Also, as others have said, there is a real benefit to have quick, agile players on the bench ready to run at tired teams. This ain’t Jordie. He covers lots of positions but otherwise I don’t think he suits the bench.

didn't he get swatted by Marika on his way to scoring his try as well?

I was thinking slow as I typed it.

I’d be happy with

21 TJ
22 Lumpy/Goody
23 Reece

I think Lumpy and Reece could certainly do damage to tiring defences

I remember Goodhue being swatted, not sure it led to a try though.

Koroibete put a good fend on Jordie, but he was pretty much over the tryline already so even a good tackle wouldn't have stopped him.

Yeah, I recall. I was just trying to give Comets the opportunity to view things out of a different eye, or maybe even two.

Was a Fijian doing something vs a non-Fijian?

YES

All hail glorious Fijian warrior!

Laumape and Will Jordan are irresistible. They will be undroppable after game or two.

Last night's performance by Jordie Barrett was the worst I have seen from a starting All Black winger in the professional era. He bombed two certain tries due to having terrible hands. His general play kick reception was terrible and as has been the case all season, we never saw his mythical long boot that Hurricanes fans constantly boas about. Once again he made very few running metres and zero line breaks. He creates nothing. The contrast between him and Will Jordan, who came on to the right wing late in the match, was like night and day.

I cannot see any reason why he demands guaranteed selection status.

He jogs around not knowing what to do with himself or where to be. He constantly pulls at his jersey trying to calm himself down. He looks like a rabbit in the headlights. He’s completely out of place and to be kind, has lost all confidence.

He’s a giraffe in a rugby jersey.

The fact he has started every test this year is bizarre and as we saw from Jordan’s cameo, seems a waste.

He has a big kick but other than last night was hardly asked to use it. He is tall but has been ineffective under the high ball and he is slow.

He isn’t a wing. If they want him it has to be at fullback and if that means benching BB, so be it. Although, right now I don’t think we should have Jordie and Beauden in the same 23.

Agreed. The continual obsession with rugby players named Barrett is hindering the development of true world class players like Will Jordan.
