On the one hand, yes, it is provocative and would stir up further hostility from the Muslim community liek this horrendous incident. On the other, if you don't do it or something else to reinforce that anyone has the right to depict the prophet, whether it's in an educational context as with the teacher or straight up wanting to be offensive for the sake of it, then the extremists win. Yet if you take the course to assert the rights and secularism of France it gets construed as attacking Islam and helps the extremist recruiters. Every action that is perceived to encroach upon Islam fuels actions that will encourage greater state intervention and resentment of the French public towards their Islamic citizens (regardless of whether they're Islamists or not), yet the state cannot simply turn the other cheek. To do so would be a dereliction of duty to the populous.
It's a vicious Catch 22 to which I see no solution.
France. What a bunch of idiots.
You literally quoted him saying it.
Also - and this is important - he's been spewing far-right hatred for over a decade. He was repeating Gates of Vienna conspiracy theories in the 2000s for fuck's sake. He's been a one-note poster outside of a handful of Welsh rugby threads for several years.
But hey, thanks for making it clear you're a fellow traveller when it comes to Muslims.

I accidentally stumbled upon this after googling "French products list", it was the first thing that came up.

To answer it, the French President, Macron allowed the Magazine to publish the cartoons of Prophet Muhammad. After that two unfortunate events took place and later the French President declared Islam a “religion in crisis”, hurting the religious sentiments of the Muslims all around the world.
Macron said that the Cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad are the freedom of speech. To protect the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, Muslims all around the world are now boycotting all the products that are “Made in France”.
The BBC had a very interesting series about Syria in the early days Assad's reign mostly from a schools perspective.Lemoentjie wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 2:24 pmThe campaign against Assad is despicableRichieRich89 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 6:46 pm There'd be far fewer radical Muslims in Europe if it wasn't for Barack Hussein Obama creating the refugee crisis by de-stabilising Libya and funding extremists in Syria to try to topple al-Assad.

And then look at the situation now.

His downfall was having Iranian bases in the south of Syria, which angered a certain group of US politicians. As well as this, he preferred Russia to the US, which is a crime punishable via CIA-funded revolutions and coups.Glaston wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 4:14 pmThe BBC had a very interesting series about Syria in the early days Assad's reign mostly from a schools perspective.Lemoentjie wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 2:24 pmThe campaign against Assad is despicableRichieRich89 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 6:46 pm There'd be far fewer radical Muslims in Europe if it wasn't for Barack Hussein Obama creating the refugee crisis by de-stabilising Libya and funding extremists in Syria to try to topple al-Assad.

Unfortunately, Muttonbird's views pass for what's commonly accepted as informed opinion in NZ these days: suppress all those whose speech might hurt somebody's feelings but appease all those who'd chop off their heads.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 10:39 amThanks for your input, but I only really value the opinions of those with greater mental capacity than a concussed ant.Muttonbird wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 5:51 amIt's not a Catch 22. While I've always known you held some strong anti-muslim feelings, that's full on bat shit crazy white supremacist racist talk!

Whats worse is that you're not just challenging the extreme views within that religion, you're insulting all followers of that faith and sending them a very clear message that their faith is not welcome in your society. That's just pouring fuel onto a fire.
There are better ways to stoke debate on this subject than going for the nuclear option. This is no different to spilling a bunch of pigs blood in front of a Synagogue.
Reasoned debate has the ability to bring about change - two lines of assholes flinging shit at each other just spreads disease!

Whats worse is that a group of people choosing to take offence over some medieval ideas they hold are demanding that their ideas have supremacy in a secular republic.....
There’s no better way to support the idea of free thought and secular laws than to challenge them directly.
Its not worse - its bad, but its not worse.
We have to put up with that bullshit from all faiths - whether its the anti-gay, anti-choice, anti-sex education, anti-science - you fucking name it. It's not the exclusive domain of the Islamic weirdos - all religious nutbags are at it. You counter that though with your fucking intellect (its not hard because their position is weak), not by actively trying to oppress their entire faith and all of the innocent followers of it, which as I said just adds fuel to a fucking fire!

No one is being oppressed in France ....
And yes free speech is more important that hurty words.
I'm not arguing against free speech - I'm saying that sometimes dickheads are the ones to speak. I'm saying that if your objective is to generate reasoned debate they are doing it wrong. I'm saying that if they want to effect real change, they are doing it wrong. If they want to feed the culture clash and make a bad situation worse, then they are bang on target!
And yes, making a blanket un-nuanced insult against an entire faith is an oppressive act. There is no satire here - it was purely designed to offend. It's carried out within the bounds of free speech - its perfectly legal for them to do so - its just a stupid dick move is all!

Free speech is exactly allowing “dickheads” their views.
The satire is real and continues. The point about “offence” is the point. Offence is taken not given. No idea has supremacy.

I'd be tempted to go along with that until I think of Monty python with The Life Of Brian. You could argue that was provocative and offensive (to the extent that it was banned in some countries) but now the idea seems silly and preposterous.PornDog wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 11:03 am

Life of Brian is legitimate satire though. What's more, it isn't a critique of Christ or necessarily Christianity itself, but rather of Christian institutions and the misinterpretation and abuse of scripture/faith. It did inspire actual debate (quite famously of course).Uncle fester wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 3:27 pmI'd be tempted to go along with that until I think of Monty python with The Life Of Brian. The cartoon of Mohammad had one purpose and one purpose only - to stoke the flames in a clash of cultures. If they genuinely wanted to just have a debate then they failed miserably - all it did was draw battle lines. Maybe its the cynic in me, but I suspect they wanted a fight, not a debate. It's not, nor should it be, illegal, but its also not any noble step forward to try and create a better society - it was the exact opposite, a dick move aimed at stoking religious tensions!
And before anybody jumps on something I have not said - them picking the fight in no way justifies blah blah blah......you're a dick for even going there!

There were protests against the life of Brian in Britain some from the then Muslim community.
Of course there were - and I've no issue with those protesters (I do with the bans of course).
Like I said - it was legitimate satire. The equivalent would have been Cleese walking onto camera and saying "Joseph was a fag - Imagine not boning his wife! Queer as they come. Mary was a dirty slut as well - immaculate conception - she's a lying dirty slut cunt!" FIN
No laughs, no satire, no debate to be had - just a bunch of pricks being obnoxious!

It’s what Hebdo do though , they’ve been there for generations .... also it really is satire when the response to being accused of being a violent nutter with medieval beliefs is to randomly kill people.
You certainly don’t get to be the judge.
That is not what I said - I stated I didn't believe there was white genocide in SA. You have inferred the rest.
As I have previously stated I am unaware of DACs racist posting.
