Numbers are starting to swell here.

Leave F365 to the DACs and Togas of this world.

We were allegedly down to 1 in a million in the community. I'd prefer not to see too many more 20+ days this week.

He's doing his job but not leading the response anymore, as far as I can see. He's hardly going to stay silent as our cases rise, there has definitely been an abandonment of most of the rules.

I presume all of this is humour? There aren't actually people upset about this, are there?

We have a cluster here in Sligo with a family returning from Iraq (the Dad’s a barber ffs), and since yesterday, when the caravan parks opened in Strandhill and Rosses Point, we’ve had a cavalcade of caravans from all over the country, but mainly from Nordie Land. Anyone who thinks this will end well has their head stuck firmly up their ass.

He is completely oblivious to the pressure parents have been under for months. Blind to it. Starts shiteing on about travel and then cites a tiny hotspot of 5 or 6 cases from Iraq. Nobody is going on holidays to Iraq you massive nob

Avoid Sligo, gotcha. ;)

Outdoor stuff is still low risk though. The question really is whether we have the transmission route between general population and vulnerable under control.

Iraq is the latest of the imported cases. He's also mentioned several other countries.

But for me it'd be less the countries that are traveled to and more trying to get there and back without catching it in the airport/on the flight.

I'm also not sure why travel abroad is vital for kids? Holiday yes but why specifically abroad?

Also one size clearly doesn't fit all. For example going to the Canaries now is safer than say Sligo

It is but you know Americans and their sense of entitlement.

Wait until you see the Brits reaction when they need authorisation to travel to the EU next year. They will lose their minds.

West Cork, Kerry or Connemara is where we usually go. We were actually meant to be abroad this year but only for the 4th summer holiday with the kids since our first was born. Not worth the travel hassle and cost.

True.

We do know a lot more now though and I'd say some asymptomatic spread in the past wasn't actually asymptomatic. e.g. The loss of smell or fatigue, which people would have ignored. They're also testing way more and getting asymptomatic close contacts.

True. It will be verboten to go anywhere with the sniffles. That has its own issues as we are about to have the recession from hell. This bullshit from McWilliams that it will be grand is scarily inaccurate. Being broke is being broke and with everybody the same we won't have FDI to cushion the blow.

I'm still optimistic but a second wave (not unlikely) will probably dampen that.

We're also one of few countries whose manufacturing output increased, and not insignificantly

We'll get spikes all the way to October, then as we start to congregate indoors the 2nd wave will come back.

It only take 1-2 super spreaders who refuse to wear masks on public transport or indoors.

We need to stay neutral on that. We need US FDI and the US is an ally of Israel. Fact is Issues in Israel/Palestine should not concern us as we've little to gain from it.

Iarmhi that is spot on. I think the important thing is to take the fear out of it now as in the blind panic some are feeling. Here is the measures and here is how we are dealing with it. Get Tony back ensuring cancer patients etc are getting looked after and tell him we'll see him in a few months

While I don't disagree that he should be very focused on normal health issues and clearing that backlog, he is hardly going to stop advising the government or population during a pandemic. Summer hasn't stopped this elsewhere, we're where we're at because of huge effort, it'd be a bit pointless for him to just give up and let us at it. Because we've already seen what that looks like with the whole country seeming to think it's over.
