Italian TV saying that you have three laps in which to correct such a mistake, so he should be ok?

There's two different set of rules in play. If he'd had a mismatched set of his own tyres on he gets 3 laps to fix it.

But he had a mismatched set of Bottas tyres fitted - so he's exceeded his tyre allowance for the weekend. No cure for that

LeClerc picks up a 3 place grid penalty for his role in the first lap crash

Mercedes fined 20,000 Euros for the tyre screw up, but no penalty to Russell.

Mazepin all over twitter, looks like he's guaranteed to have the shortest F1 career of zero races.

Disgusting, posts a video showing him sexually assaulting someone.

If Leclerc had got penalties for the previous two times he'd done that move earlier in the season then you'd hope that it wouldn't have happened a third time.

A lot of talk about what Russells drive does for Bottas' reputation but I suppose there is also an element of what it does for Hamilton. A guy jumps into his car for the first time and nearly wins.

I saw he was driving like a bell end during the weekend’s F2 race. Haven’t seen anything else about him.

Even what’s previously known about Mazapins behaviour should have seen him on the outside of the paddock. Hopefully this is enough.

He posted a video on Instagram of himself groping a woman in a car, and then quickly deleted it. After Haas condemned the video, he apologized, and the lady involved has apparently said it was a joke between them, but still a monumentally stupid thing to do and then post online.

I thought from your comment that he'd been dropped by Haas.

Little chance of that while his old man is buying the seat.

Paid off, otherwise his "apology" would surely have alluded to the incident as friendly role play.

It's being "investigated internally" according to Haas' twitter page, which probably means that they are hoping it will be forgotten about and they can discreetly brush it under the carpet

They're weighing up daddy's cash, what his contract says vs the public outrage. The longer is goes on, the worse it is for them, they need to read the room pronto and ditch the turd.

I think the fact that Max and in a way Leclerc went out on the first lap had a huge impact on on how well Russell did. Think Max would have been pressuring him.

But also - it is one race - on a very Merc friendly track. You can start gunning for Hamilton when Russell can do it over a whole season - in adverse conditions and on tracks that don't suit Mercedes' car.

The only ones who look bad after that race are Bottas and the Mercedes garage.

Hamilton says he's improving and wants to make the Abu Dhabi race - but there's no news on whether he's actually got a negative test result yet. And even if he does, getting into Abu Dhabi and then to the race track is going to take a lot of work and agreeement from the government. The Racetrack complex is sealed off - no-one in or out - even if he's allowed into the country

Hamilton has his negative test, and has been granted special dispensation by the Abu Dhabi government to enter and get into the track complex.

Russell back into the banger then

I'm not gunning for Hamilton, I'm a big fan. But there is always talk about how much difference the car makes etc and for all the chat in the last few weeks about Hamiltons experience and race craft a bloke jumps into his car for the first time with the wrong shoes on and nearly wins.

The thing about the driver is that it's not just quali, or the race. It's not even the weekend. It's the off season dev work, it's the experience, it's the feedback etc. It's obvious that drivers are different - Bottas is in the same car for instance, and was well rated before joining Merc - it was pretty well agreed that he was outperforming the Williams at that time.

If you look at the 3 young Brit drivers at the moment:

Albon is massively underperforming his team-mate
Norris pretty much on a par with Sainz
Russell is outperforming his team-mate at Williams, and outperformed Bottas on raceday

Albon is up againts Verstappen - who is generally thought to be up there with Hamilton in terms of pace
Sainz is talented enough that he's moving to Ferrari nerxt season; is certainly well thought of, but we'll see how he stacks up against LeClerc - another driver trhought to be there or therabouts.
Russel has been suspected of being extremely good in an F1 car and he looked Hamilton-like over the weekend. But we don;t have the baseline of comparing him to Hamilton, we have the baseline of Bottas.

You only have to go back a couple of seasons to see where the Mercedes was, at best, on a par with Ferrari (chating or not) where it was generally agreed that it was Hamilton that made the difference for that championship against Vettel. This season the Merc is ridiculously dominant though

you guys are much more experts than me...but the longer it goes that Checo is not signed, does that mean anything? For example, Red Bull still trying to find a way to justify Albion? Or waiting to after the season? Anything on Tsunoda? Or any miracle chance for Hulk to be back?

RB have said they're going to give Albon every chance to nail the seat down. So he has to perform this weekend. Horner has said they need a second driver that can reliably perform and rack up the points - so it won't be Tsunoda (he's testing for AlphaTauri on Monday) and in a choice between Checo and Hulk it's going to be Checo.

Albon drives under a Thai passport. That is the only reason he hasn't been booted already.

Yeah, good quali session. Should be a decent race tomorrow though it won’t be an overtaking fest. McLaren v Tracing Point for the 3rd Constructors place is the main issue. Also, its the last dance for loads of drivers / teams.

Don’t miss the Hamilton / Rossi car/bike swap.

Yas Marina is a great track for watching an F1 car, but not so good for watching an F1 race. Perez starting from the back should provide interest; Max on pole at least gives a semblance of interest up front but the reality is that the Mercedes on medium tyres are much faster.

Christ this track is dull. Mercedes engine is turned down, Verstappen doing a Hamilton out front, but Albon still can't get onto the gearbox of Hamilton
