Looks like there is some regional redistribution going on - Northern parts of England have being racing ahead so some of their supply is going elsewhere (sorry cant find the article to link to).

Supply chain is an issue but it isn't a surprise and will get sorted. It would have been amazing if vaccine supply and vaccination capacity developed so fast and in synch. Rather than seeing it as a problem it is probably more a measure of how fantastic the NHS has done in getting the capacity to deliver vaccines up and running as quickly as it has. As soon as supply is ramped up I expect the vaccination rate to accelerate significantly. Given the scale and speed this has been done there is relatively little noise in the system and most issues that have arisen would have been expected.

It just shows how lucky we are with NHS and a crying shame that we didnt spend the £22b on asking the NHS to get test, track and trace in place rather than spaffing it agains the wall providing profits to all the Tory donors. Even if we get vaccination rates up, which we will, we still need a functioning and fit for purpose TTT system in place for the rest of this year and probably permanently.. Surely the Gov need to admit failure on this, sack Dido and plan to replace the failed call centre based approach run by the incompetent profiteering Serco, Deliottes, etc.

Been listening on R5L this morning. Locally it;s dried up as well - no vaccination clinics next week. But MArlow is only opening up the main clinic tomorrow

Caveat - NHS in Scotland and Wales being breaking the Pzier vaccine into smaller batches to get it into care homes quicker (80% vaccinated vs 60% in England) which has slowed things down somewhat.

WTF is wrong with people willfully ignoring the regs?
Covid: 400-person wedding party in Stamford Hill broken up by police

Police broke up a wedding party with 400 guests in north London. Officers found the windows at the Yesodey Hatorah Senior Girls' School, in Stamford Hill, had been covered when they arrived at 21:15 GMT on Thursday.

The guests fled from the Charedi strictly Orthodox Jewish school when officers arrived.

The organisers are facing a £10,000 fine for breaching coronavirus regulations, while five other guests were issued £200 fines, police said.

That's fucking mental. Should be pursuing as many of them as possible with fines. I'm all in favour of police having a light touch most of the time, but this kind of deliberate, organised thing just needs to be punished to the full extent. £10k each for the bride and groom, each of their parents, whoever was presiding over the wedding and £250 or £800, whichever was the law at the time, for every single guest.

What's the craic with France and vaccines? Sub 50% willing to be vaccinated seems pretty nuts.

Is it a cultural thing or has anti vax taken an especially deep hold there?

You'd think they would know better as the School's Head died of Covid19 in April last year.

There does seem to be a pattern with these more flagrant cases, involving sects or groups that see themselves as separate from the rest of society and/or following a higher power. Israel has also had problems getting ultra-orthodox jews to follow government guidance:

"Ultra-Orthodox Jews make up about 12% of Israel's population — but they account for as much as 60% of Israel's COVID-19 cases in major hospitals ... Many in the ultra-Orthodox community only follow the orders of rabbis, not health officials, and for weeks, many ignored government bans against large weddings and prayer services."

Just heard on the radio that the school actually outsource the hiring and usage of it's facilities and knew absolutely nothing about the wedding. The Chief Rabbi has been scathing about what happened

Well joking aside its a really good days work - putting the UK on target to meet its Mid February target for all over 70s.

Today should be similar but expecting another weekend drop off.

With these death tolls from the Christmas extravaganza still coming you have to think there are a lot of very guilty feeling family members around the UK. It's very sad.

I look forward to Openside trotting along shortly to dismissed it as her 3rd 'slip of the tongue' in 2 weeks. It's a tough job putting words into sentences in the right order.

But fear not, infinite monkey theorem dictates if she spews enough shit for long enough eventually she'll put some words together in the right order in a manner that make sense.

Well on the latest stats not only we have the most deaths in Europe but we have pulled ahead of Italy in deaths/million population. San Marino might be a stretch too far for us but I’m sure Boris will be optimistic.

BTW has the fat slug announced any plans to free up for a few days over Valentines day?

Very early data so far on that - more compelling is that it's nearly certain that the vaccine is effective against this strain. Less certainty about the other two, but still likely.

From what I've read, the way coronaviruses mutate means we'd be more likely to see a gradual reduction in effectiveness rather than a single mutation which snaps the vaccines to useless. Which would probably mean that it'd be a good few years before the vaccine needed to be changed.
