I haven’t watched it back yet, so perhaps I’m wrong. But at the time of the red card we were still ahead by 2 points, and with a better bench than Wales and likely to end the game more strongly.

Perhaps we could still have won with 14 and we passed up chances to do so, but we played half the game one short and the points margin changed by 3. If we had kept a full complement I’m confident we’d have won.
We should have been a distant memory by halftime.

Yep. We properly fucked it, again.
So I squares up, casual like.

I a heading for a bottle of whiskey but chat for another day is that we just aren't creating enough tries for the length of time we are in the oppo 22. Even today one try from a defensive lapse off a kick that wasn't an attacking kick really and another off a set scrum.

I assume Blair is helping with the attack? Time to earn his money.

It’s a frustration for me as well. We create great breaks from our own try line all the way up the pitch with our backs. Then we get within 5m of the try line and think the best way is to have endless drives. Give it to Finn, Hogg, Darcy, IrnBru etc etc etc

The momentum had already changed and we were starting to look like rabbits in the headlights. We’ve seen it all before, have them by the balls then instead of squeezing we just let go.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

I think there is a lot of truth in that, but a red card in international rugby is a huge turning point, it was another symptom of our lack of ruthlessness and control, but it does have a huge bearing at this level.

It’s all about momentum. We’d given it up by that point - if anything it was the fact we’d given it up that led to the red card rather than the other way round.

We'd shot ourselves in the foot several times before the card, the two try turnaround before half time was a belter. we were pressing on their line, three penalties later and Wales score.

Magnificent.

A rogue opinion but I think Blade Thomson going off lost us that game. Gary Graham was just so inexplicably bad. He gave them so so many penalties and took a try from us.

Yep. Good call.

Should still have been a win at the end, mind. Liam Williams knocks Du's ball back to keep it from Hoggy, then tackles Hogg. Off the ball. Should've been a penalty, three points and a win. Certainly would've been if it had happened the other way round. And then we'd be happy. Ish.

TBF I knew something was wrong when I saw it at the time, but it took seeing a replay to notice what Carley missed there.

Even odder is Torq. 50% of his posts are rants about Finn Russell. Who, as far as I can tell, doesn’t play for any team he supports or has any stake in.

Don't really think it's that rogue. Being down to 14 wasn't the death knell but Graham was shite, folk have been chaffing about how good he is for Newcastle. I've not seen him for them but I'm not impressed, other than his cameo last week I've not seen anything to warrant his inclusion.

To be fair he's been excellent for Newcastle when I've watched them this season, but he did cough up a lot of penalties today

Perhaps he can't make that step up (in fairness he's only had a few caps) but theres no shame in that. Plenty of guys are good club players but don't make the grade above that. Would rather someone like Crosbie got a chance if that's his limit.

I'm on the rum after nights noo so probably havering a bit.

Have to say, I watched the last 5 minutes with my 2 year old daughter on my lap, who was shouting for us, thinking “why do i take this so seriously”

Just had a lovely meal with the wife and brought it up as well.

Maybe I shouldn’t.

But I do. I love it. I’m really disappointed.

Don't disagree with any of that. Mentioned Crosbie as I think he's more of a sub for Ritchie and has potential.

Its escapism, a wee bit of vicariousness, bonding (whether in person - or as a saddo online- with mates and oppos) and I suppose a bit of patriotism flung in.

Edit: or possibly just me projecting something 😬😂

Yeah. I was meant to be doing an online wine tasting and I was Not. In. The. Mood.

I am starting to genuinely wish I didn’t give a shit, because it’s too painful. This sort of game is why I stopped watching the 6N live. I actually hoped maybe we had turned that corner and I could maybe start watching again, but no, they have demonstrated they are the same useless fuckers as ever. I am so hugely, enormously pissed off.

The only positive I can take from today is that Hogg is two tries closer to the all-time scoring record. He has 22 now and the record is 24. Hoping he can hit 30 or so before he retires.

I called it straight away Williams flops onto Hogg on the ground has always been a penalty!!
