Decent move I think. Experienced, steady eddy 10....he's not going to be able to do what Anscombe could, but he should allow them to be controlled from 10 in a way they weren't last year.

Do we have a return date for Anscombe?

Reminds me of the old Jasper Carrot joke.

So, which Lions will be Welsh do we think? I'm personally hoping for a smaller contingent than normal, it's about time the other 3 nations started picking up the slack.

Francis
AWJ
Tipuric
One of our scrum halves
Biggar
Davies
Adams
Williams

Reckon that could be it. Gatland may take a punt on Faletau, Navidi, Owens.

I agree, it's about time the other nations pulled their weight. We've only just been able to rest and recuperate our first XV, I don't want to see the likes of Faletau and Foxy go off and snap themselves on saffas.

BUT: it's Gatland's last chance to troll the other unions... he may also be tempted to surround himself with familiar, loyal faces... and I wouldn't mind if LRZ gets a call up as a bolter... and if Ellis Jenkins goes it would be good to see him sprint around on some dry paddocks.

I guess we'll have to see how well Welsh players do in the 2021 6N if there is one. Depending if some of the injured players are back in fighting form as well that could be a factor, Hill could add to his Lions caps

A couple of interesting tweets from Robin Davey...
Really encouraging to hear more about the Dragons plans for new signings and return to private control. Chairman and director of rugby hugely influential on their respective fronts
then in reply to a question about the signings...
Lock maybe a few weeks, prop bit later, private aim by end of year, would have been earlier but pandemic changed things
If they sign Rowlands I'm going to be delighted. They've already exceeded my expectations in the quality of most signings so far (with Maksyimw being the biggest one I have questions over), so a quality lock would be spectacular.

Pretty well this but (not) Toby will probably break again. I think it may be a big call for AWJ and there are many other options at lock. The Saes will provide the bulk of the squad and the Scots may have as many as us.

Very interesting but I'm not sure how they'd get private ownership again. Haven't people said the WRU are a nightmare to work with?

I'd have thought that at a time when WRU finances are going to be precarious, the offer to buy out their stake would be welcomed.

Yes, one would think that but then the WRU aren't like us. Fingers crossed it happens though.

WRU getting the cash in

Welsh Rugby Union seeking £20m loan to help coronavirus costs
Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) chairman Gareth Davies says the governing body is seeking a loan of around £20m to help cope with the coronavirus crisis.

WRU chief executive Martyn Phillips has said they were looking for financial help, but did not state how much.

"We are looking for a loan of around £20m," said Davies.

"We are still in talks to secure a loan, hoping to finalise something before the end of the month as we have bills to pay."

The Welsh Government could help, World Rugby has provided an £80m contingency fund while remortgaging Principality Stadium or a bank loan would also be options.

Davies has previously said the effect of coronavirus has been "catastrophic" on the WRU's budget.

Just when we thought the debt was nearly paid off re-stadium along comes this.

I'm assuming that TV channel we sold out to will be showing the Welsh derby games?

As long as they get a cross deal with S4C everything will be peachy.

Yes! Although, objectively, you might say that the standard/quality of the rugby was not as 'high' as Pro 14, I certainly enjoyed watching the matches a lot more than the dross that was served up by most of the regions, most of the time. The entertainment quality was brilliant, much more so than watching turgid pick and goes for hours on end in Pro 14.

Chances of towering new Wales lock Will Rowlands joining Dragons increase as they continue to pursue their target. Wasps' 25% enforced pay cut has breached contract so he can leave. And good chance Jamie Roberts will join impressive list of Dragons recruits
Davey again...

And Luke Baldwin signed for another year on loan. I hope that doesn't mean we have another year without seeing anything of Babos.

I quite liked what I saw of Buckland too for the under 20s before he decided he needed game time and buggered off. I understand Baldwin's there in a mentorship role for the academy 9s, but I hope it's not at the expense of game time for them, because Babos looked good when we were considerably worse 2 years ago, which was no mean feat. I was surprised we didn't see more of him last year.

Ryan seems to trust youth a lot less in some areas - he's been reluctant to test out the likes of Reynolds and Coleman (which I think is fair, prop is a tough position early on), he flogged Screech and Joe Davies rather than try Max Williams last year, we've seen little of Babos or Robson in the halfbacks, yet in the backrow and back 3 there have been plenty of appearances for youngsters (admittedly some spectacular talents in the likes of Dyer, Basham, etc.). Quite the contrast with Jackman...
