Calamari is squid, not octopus.

Russia Moves to Grant Ex-Presidents Lifetime Immunity From Prosecution

Russian lawmakers submitted legislation Thursday that would grant former presidents lifetime immunity from criminal prosecution under President Vladimir Putin’s constitutional reforms, Interfax reported.

Under current laws, presidents cannot be held criminally or administratively liable for crimes committed while serving their terms. A parliamentary working group assessing Putin’s constitutional reforms proposed earlier this year to extend presidential immunity beyond their terms of office.

“The bill secures immunity guarantees for ex-presidents beyond the terms of their presidential powers,” Interfax quoted Senator Andrei Klishas, the group’s co-chair, as telling reporters.

Car drives off with door lodged in windscreen

Image

A driver crashed into a house and then carried on driving with the front door in the car's windscreen and roof.

The 18-year-old motorist was taken to hospital with head injuries after the crash in Ashworth Road, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, on Friday night.

Police said his Audi collided with a vehicle before crashing into the front porch of the house.

Police said officers were speaking to the driver, who is not thought to be seriously hurt.
What exactly made him think it was perfectly safe to carry on driving like this

US judge says parents owe son over trashed porn collection

A US judge in Michigan has ruled that a 42-year-old man can seek compensation from his parents for destroying his pornography collection.

David Werking, who was living with his parents following a divorce, sued them over the items, which he claims were worth over $25,000 (£18,500).

His parents argued that they told Mr Werking to not bring the items home.

The judge said that, even as landlords, Mr Werking's parents had no right to dispose of items owned by their son.

Mr Werking had lived with his parents in Grand Haven, Michigan, for 10 months after his divorce, but moved out in August 2017. He now lives in Indiana.

He said he had left his extensive and "irreplaceable" collection of magazines and films at his parents' house when initially moving out, and later discovered they were missing, the Holland Sentinel newspaper reported.

The parents said they were not willing to help move the items to Indiana and did not want them in their home.

Mr Werking filed the lawsuit arguing the items were illegally destroyed in April 2019.

Emails between Mr Werking and his father stated that the items included 12 full boxes of "pornography plus two boxes of sex toys", according to the Sentinel. Mr Werking said there were over 1,600 DVDs and tapes.

In one, Mr Werking's father told him he did him a "big favour by getting rid of all this stuff".

Following the verdict, an attorney for the parents said she was working to determine the damages, and had hired an expert from the Erotic Heritage Museum in Nevada to help with the process.

The Werkings must outline the damages to the court by mid-February.

If you're a gearhead / petrolhead / whatever nickname you prefer being a car enthusiast, this might be for you. Project Gutenberg uploads old books for which the copyright has expired. This recent one is a 1907 catalogue of cars with pics (mostly, not all), specs and selling price.

Edit: found a better scan at archive.org https://archive.org/details/illustrated ... 5/mode/2up

Quite fascinating that there were so damn many then, and not just powered by gasoline, but also electric and steam driven! It's funny how many were still stuck in this 'horseless carriage' mindset in terms of the design. Maybe the ground clearance was preferred on what where usually shitty (literally!) dirt roads with ruts and mud?

While looking for a good pic to share, found this article that used images from it to talk more about electric cars of the era:
