LNR and Toulouse are up in Arms about it

They have a team though

Cardiff would qualify not having won a game

This is strange as Toulouse had the 23 players require with negative test results.

Consistently idiotic with the Leinster decision.

Toulouse fail to qualify then?
Yes. Because whatever happens at Coventry, either Wasps or CO will overhaul them. No sympathy from me.

{EDIT} Didier Lacroix (Pres) is doing his nut. Apparently Toulouse could field a team but EPCR had allegedly already made up minds to cancel. Toulouse is going to sue.

This comp gets more farcical by each day.

Returns from injury or illness for West, Millar-Mills, Stooke, Robson, Watson, Morris and Spink.

The unavailable list this week:
Biyi Alo, Alfie Barbeary, Malakai Fekitoa, Vaea Fifita, Dan Frost, Jimmy Gopperth, Ben Harris, Robin Hislop, Francois Hougaard, Zach Kibirige, Joe Launchbury, Matteo Minozzi, Will Simonds, Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Jacob Umaga, Jack Willis, Tom Willis.

Bolded players were involved in the Toulouse win last week. Seems like a lot to lose and every time we get some guys coming back from injury, more fall over. Notable exception for Umaga starting his ban.

Probably going to get beat, very few teams rock up at Thomond and win in Europe.
I'm sure there's an element of having to risk not quite fit players, but what point do you start to worry that there's something fundamentally wrong with the S&C at Wasps?

Sh*t has hit the fan now.

The LNR has waded in in support of Toulouse, calling the cancellation unfounded and a scandal. Stating that Toulouse had followed all EPCR rules and therefore EPCR has violated its own regs.

This is a big deal. LNR is hinting it will support legal proceedings by Toulouse against EPCR. LNR is the governing body for the French clubs.

Farcical decision. Farcical tournament format. Farcical tournament.

We didn't appreciate what we had in the 00s/early 10s.

Yup. It's not beyond the realms that the LNR threatens to pull the remaining Fre clubs and uses the gap to catch up T14 fixtures.

From what I can see here, there is no difference between the ST situation and the absolute disgraceful decision made against Leinster in Dec.

Just seen a reference to Sam Underhill coming back from injury against Leinster on Saturday. The BBC article says he’s coming back after more than a month out. He was injured on 26 December against Gloucester…….

A slight difference. Leinster was arguing alone. This could be raise the hackles of entirety of Fre club rugby. Europe has no monetary value without T14 clubs. EPCR knows it. LNR knows it.

Yeah, with the squad having been as barebones as it was at times there's almost certainly an element of that in play and those who've been consistently available this season have got a lot of rugby under their belts. Gopperth has probably played a lot more than they'd be expecting a 38 year old to. Will probably get an update midweek about the injuries, but the Cov Telegraph team coverage notes that Barbeary and Willis were in game head knocks, there's not much as can be done about that from an S&C perspective.

The sheer number of injuries overall definitely needs serious, review though.

This is exactly what happened to Leinster. So EPCR are hoist on their own petard.

Europe needs a total rethink. Make it elite again for starters. Just 12 teams in 4x seeded pools of 3. Pool stage; 2x home 2x away matches. Pool winners straight to semi-finals. 6 games maximum. 4 games minimum.

Qualification
England - top 4
France - top 4
URC - top 4

Play in single block after domestic league ends.

Go back to the old 20 team format headed by a competent organisation based in Dublin.

I am 100% certain that an Irish side winning it five times in six years or whatever does not at all give a measure of misty-eyed wistfulness about the late 00s/early 2010s Heineken Cup...

This. It has to be short and high quality which go hand in hand. The best players simply can't do a work load that includes extended leagues, extended cup comps and internationals. If you want true quality the competitions have to be focused.
