2021 Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup
From a NH Pro14 pov we tried playing SA teams and it wasn't all that successful.
The Cheetahs were reasonably competitive in the first season but there were empty stands on tv, even against top European sides. There doesn't seem to be any public interest in playing Irish, Scottish or Welsh teams.
There's no way for SA teams to join the English or French leagues so is the carrot for SA teams to use the Pro14 to get into the European Rugby Champions Cup?

Crowds were poor but it was running concurrently with Super rugby and the Currie cup. This would be a straight up replacement of Super rugby so should get decent crowds in SA.Zig wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 7:09 pm From a NH Pro14 pov we tried playing SA teams and it wasn't all that successful.

To be really honest only Newlands draw crowds before lock down because of the amount od matches. Even the Kiwis and Aussies had empty stadiums. Look like the drought of rugby filled them up again. Also thought the NH rugby supporters understands rugby culture. It will take time before you build a rivalry between teams like Leinsters vs Stormers as an example. They rather post some kak bull shite about SA teams. Vok them anyways.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 6:00 amCrowds were poor but it was running concurrently with Super rugby and the Currie cup. Supporters of the Bulls and Sharks punish their teams for bad performances by not attending matches. There's really no comparison to supporters of WP who attend irrespective of results.Zig wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 7:09 pm From a NH Pro14 pov we tried playing SA teams and it wasn't all that successful.

No surprise; Leinster have their eye on next week; & going to their 4th choice OH in the first few minutes wasn't in the plan.

Leinster put out a B team. They've got a European Cup semi-final this weekend. Watch that game and then let's talk.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 2:38 pm Are you sure? Our top Varsity Cup sides would smash them.

“The Stormers have some serious heavyweights returning to their pack,” agrees Sharks coach Sean Everitt. “Pieter-Steph will have a major presence for them in his comeback — he is that type of player that commands huge respect.
“But we also have our share of inspirational Springboks,” Everitt stressed. “Siya brings serious leadership in backing up Lukhanyo Am, and then there are Thomas du Toit, Curwin Bosch, Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Ox Nche and Sbu Nkosi ... I’d also like to add the name of Aphelele Fassi who while he is not yet a Bok, is rapidly getting back to his best form (after missing most of last year through injury).”
Sharks: 15 Aphelele Fassi, 14 Sibusiso Nkosi, 13 Lukhanyo Am (captain), 12 Jeremy Ward, 11 Yaw Penxe, 10 Curwin Bosch, 9 Grant Williams, 8 Sikhumbuzo Notshe, 7 Henco Venter, 6 Siya Kolisi, 5 Reniel Hugo, 4 Ruben van Heerden, 3 Thomas du Toit, 2 Fez Mbatha, 1 Ox Nche.

Not sure that that is a pack that can dominate, but they certainly have the goods in the backline. Would have expected van der Mescht in the starting line-up.Chilli wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 8:35 am Sharks: 15 Aphelele Fassi, 14 Sibusiso Nkosi, 13 Lukhanyo Am (captain), 12 Jeremy Ward, 11 Yaw Penxe, 10 Curwin Bosch, 9 Grant Williams, 8 Sikhumbuzo Notshe, 7 Henco Venter, 6 Siya Kolisi, 5 Reniel Hugo, 4 Ruben van Heerden, 3 Thomas du Toit, 2 Fez Mbatha, 1 Ox Nche.

Credit to the $hark$ for bringing/buying PoCs through the system and develop them into excellent rugby players. All our province should do the same.Chilli wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 8:35 am Sharks: 15 Aphelele Fassi, 14 Sibusiso Nkosi, 13 Lukhanyo Am (captain), 12 Jeremy Ward, 11 Yaw Penxe, 10 Curwin Bosch, 9 Grant Williams, 8 Sikhumbuzo Notshe, 7 Henco Venter, 6 Siya Kolisi, 5 Reniel Hugo, 4 Ruben van Heerden, 3 Thomas du Toit, 2 Fez Mbatha, 1 Ox Nche.
