Some of the high speed crosses in that race were genuinely frightening.

Great days racing. In those winds the boats are pretty similar. Interesting how LR were better than ETNZ upwind and ETNZ better downwind. And enough in it that the lead swapped each leg.
I think stronger winds are a bit of a leveler. I think from previous regatta ETNZ are better than the other teams in the light airs.
Think it'll be LR making it thru to final.

It’s all one design isn’t it? So the only difference is the configuration on the day.
And of course the sailing skills.

Correct. In the Americas Cup they can design their own foils, as long as they fit into certain measurements, but not sure of the case here. I think they are given 2 or 3 sets of foils by ETNZ so it really is one design racing.

Louis Vuitton pre-race regatta is on now and the Cup challenger's series starts next week.
From what I have seen on YouTube - watch the start and the race till the first cross. From then on, the winner appears to be a formality. It's worse than the Monaco GP
Thankfully it's on during the night so I don't have to bother to watch.

I;ve heard of dropping the ball before, but not dropping the boat. Twats.
A “mighty bang” rang out across the Team New Zealand base after their America’s Cup boat was dropped to the ground in a post-race accident on Friday (NZ time).
Speaking to Stuff, Team New Zealand chief executive Grant Dalton said the crane that was lowering the boat onto its cradle failed, dropping the AC75 almost 7m and leaving what appeared to be a crack on the hull.
“I was only just saying we had a great day to someone when I heard this mighty bang and the crane has dropped the boat,” Dalton said.
“We can't move it right now to assess it any more because we need a new crane and we certainly can't trust this one.”

England boat is looking very quick so far. Probably them and USA in the LV final and I reckon you guys have it all over them.
What's the level of public interest there?

Not really registering yet - I think it will pick up if they get to the LV Cup. They seem to have an edge over the Swiss at the moment, particularly downwind.
The other semifinal looks really tight - Italians to shade it

I was in Barcelona for the last week in August and watched the boats from the beach, it’s just ridiculous how fast they are given their size, some of the speed boats were struggling to keep up with them.

Britannia hit 50 knots today, which is c.93km/h!
They have been comfortable winners in all 4 races. Luna Rossa have won four much tighter ones, including one today by only 2 seconds! Those two look to be the LV Cup finalists in all probability. If Enzedder's forecast of American Magic qualifying comes true, he'll get kudos points from me!

Something clearly not right with Team Alinghi. No way they should be coming off the foils the way they did in those wind conditions. They’re clearly a work in progress getting ready for the next competition but even so.

I'd agree with this. Almost nobody outside of sailing clubs knows it's on. Being on TNT Sports doesn't help, not least because it didincentivises the FTA channels ftom featuring it on the news.

The current race isn't going to do much for interest in the sport

I am still sceptical. I match raced dinghies and yachts for 20+ years and they just seem to bang the corners focusing purely on speed and wind shifts. There are no upwind tacking duels and downwind jybing and covering where there are close quarters battles, shouting, sweat, tears, spinnaker handling and potential contacts, all the traditional skills of sailing.
It all just feels a bit impersonal.

I agree, these foils feel like Formula E where the cars just hum around the track with no drama or little chance for a mistake.

If you think there's little chance for a mistake then you've not been watching! There have been loads, mostly in the lighter breeze but a few in the upper end stuff.
Both crews have done it but the high proportion of good sailing has been because the crews are at the top of their game.
One minor concession I'll make is that there have been far fewer lead changes now that they are in the LV final... which makes the start so interesting.
I've loved it.

It appears Taihoro is faster upwind and Britannia downwind. But it is so bloody hard to pass that we have the advantage of defending the lead most of the time (at the moment)

Not quite 60,000 people watching the official live stream of the finals. A educated guess says this might be the least watched sport per dollar spent on the planet.

The UK have a yacht in the race skippered by one of England’s favourite sportsmen but the BBC do not have anything on the America’s Cup on their website.

bbc.co.uk does but you have to scroll a bit to see it. It's the first report they've done that you didn't have to search for the sailing section to find.

Then you need to add in those watching on TV, eg me on TNT.
