That's coming to an end tomorrow though with schools reopening...but it's just a risk I'm going to have to take.

Around here is only 1 active case. People complaining about visitors. Fact is we need visitors to survive. You can only control yourself, keep distance, wearing mask and sanatise. To worry about others is just mental waisting.Amethyst wrote: Mon Jul 06, 2020 7:53 am Are you guys still adhering to the lockdown rules concerning visiting family, etc? I reckon you are in the right spot to enjoy your retirement. If that's what you want. I always knew a young wife would catch up on me one day so can't see myself retiring any time soon. Just looking at my challenges ahead its very daunting when you sometimes think to yourself that it would be nice just to have a sleep in. I need a younger version of myself to carry on before I can wind down. And thats 8 years away.
Instead of starting the take away burger joint, have you not thought of buy or starting a restaurant in a place like StruisBaai or Arniston? Closed on Sunday nigjt, Monday and Tuesday. Ticks over Wednesday and Thursday. Busy Friday, Saturday and Sunday lunch.Sards wrote: Sat Jul 11, 2020 5:02 am I reckon you are in the right spot to enjoy your retirement. If that's what you want. better exposure here with more chance of making a profit and better return on the sale. Just need 4k sales a day. Remember the main reason besides diversifying is to promote the Diablo as a business model. We have 30 square meters at the rear of the shop opening into the mall which we are outfitting as a showroom for Diablo . To assist with the rental on the restaurant and have some where that we can have a working example.Chilli wrote: Sat Jul 11, 2020 5:28 amInstead of starting the take away burger joint, have you not thought of buy or starting a restaurant in a place like StruisBaai or Arniston? Knew it was coming sooner or latter, still didn't stock up except if you count three bottles of wine for the wife. It doesn't bother me that much to be without alcohol. My opinion is that it will only make things worst. Alcohol is very easy to make and outlawing it will just make people desperate and they'll end up drinking any rubbish or they'll pay crazy prices to bootleggers. Smokes on the other hand is a problem. It's not something you could easily make yourself so the only way is to buy it on the black market.
Only had 1 session when sales were allowed...not that important tbh.
The curfew...seriously....most of us are cuddled up in bed by 9pm because of the weather.
Its those dirty Gauteng veckers....haven't the maturity to manage social distancing and with vok al else to do but going for a kuier they have let us all down. Now we have to all limit our kuiers and sessions and sneak around like vokken criminals.

They started night shift last week to catch up on the hours lost during stage 5 and 4. Also an opportunity for the 50% staff to earn some pay. That's foked now. "Sorry boet, you just have to sit at home a bit longer and hope the UIF pays out"
The only conclusion is that they have not prepared for peak and dont have the money to deal with it so are putting the burdon onto us again to limit it.average joe wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2020 7:19 am They started night shift last week to catch up on the hours lost during stage 5 and 4. Its time to cry.
While I understand and sort of agree with the booze ban, it just goes to show how a certain part of our population [and it is across all races] just can't control themselves and just don't give a shit.
Me having 2 glasses of wine when I braaied in the wind on Saturday night doesn't effect anyone. However the reckless people who get pissed, fight, attack people, beat up their families and drive just fucked it up for the rest of us.
Thankfully I don't drink much.

How long until a totally unsuspicious 'NDZ-Lager' appears on the alcohol black market?
Had a whatsapp discussion with 2 friends last night and we said exactly this. I think in some cases it's almost like if I don't drink my booze now, someone else will take it.Chilli wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2020 8:44 am While I understand and sort of agree with the booze ban, it just goes to show how a certain part of our population [and it is across all races] just can't control themselves and just don't give a shit.

Yup, that alcohol ban coming back was always on the cards, in one way it is good they did it with immediate effect so that there was no rush of crowds to bottle stores. But i do feel sorry for anyone working in the alcohol industry.
The amount of photos and posts since the ban was lifted, showing parties and crazy drunken gatherings showed there was a big group of people that did not care. I have a friend who is a paramedic in Johannesburg, and she said alcohol related emergency cases were crazy in the areas she was working in.
Luckily I have no desperate need for alcohol, I enjoy the odd beer with a Braai or watching sports with friends, but rarely have a drink on my own anyway, so seeing as I have not had any social gatherings for months, I did not miss having alcohol around. I have a couple of bottles of Whisky, but they are mostly untouched.
But these bans are definitely feeding the black market. I think once things get back to a bit of normality again, it is going to be tough the squash the black market for alcohol and cigarettes in my opinion. Even with prices back to normal, these guys will still be able to make some good money by avoiding all the taxes/duties related to these products. They are currently given all the space and time to build a very good network. These bans are going to affect the government for a long time without taking the job losses in mind.

The parties aren't the reason for the ban. The spike in domestic violence, particularly against women, that led to increased hospital visits immediately after the first ban did.Sandstorm wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2020 1:26 pm Stupid to ban the booze. They should have rounded up a couple of dozen parties behaving like fools in the last 2 weeks and thrown them all in jail for the weekend! Make an example country-wide.
It's a shame that so many people who don't abuse alcohol have to pay the price, and can no longer have a dop with their braai. But South Africa needs to address it's problem with alcohol and domestic violence.
its been brilliant for me....
No " Whiteman, Whiteman...I need a cigarette " from my neighbor.
Since the restrictions have been lifted he has been very good. Hopefully its done him and his family a service.
He still owes me a carton...let's see how that plays out.

I'm pretty sure I heard the Prez say the curfew does not apply to those traveling to or from work during curfew hours.average joe wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2020 7:19 am They started night shift last week to catch up on the hours lost during stage 5 and 4. Probably just need a permit from your employer.
Same goes for for weed and shrooms etc as well.assfly wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2020 1:45 pmThe parties aren't the reason for the ban. But ja, glad I'm fairly stocked up this time around. When the ban was lifted I dropped a couple of grand to replenish my booze stash and then some thinking that we might go back. Wish I had more, but with some rationing, I should be okay until December. Luckily I don't drink much anyway.
Wish that they would allow the Provinces to decide these things; but that's not how the ANC's central control model works
