Weird game. Just read about the pre-match drama, no wonder we got pumped in the scrums (although a couple of the calls were harsh). Pretty shitty of Jake to object at the last minute, but I would probably want my coach to do the same thing if it was the other way around.
The only word I can use to describe that Sharks performance was disinterested. There didn't seem to be any real purpose to anything we did, felt like another warm up match with nothing at stake.
Our best players were Fassi, Am and Buthelezi. The latter had the best game I've seen him play, if he can keep those performances up then his future is very bright. Incredible turn of pace.
JJ vd Mescht. That kid needs to be put on a conditioning program, he is not fit to play professional rugby and he was walking about the place in the second half. I like having a big 4 lock, but if he could lose some timber then he'd be a much better player. Those poor props lifting him at 2 in the lineout
Kolisi was poor too, really shown up by Marco van Staden. Was probably the worst loose forward on the field if we're being honest.
Bosch. Eish. I didn't mind it when his kicking and running game covered for his defensive liabilities, but I don't see anything from him. I was hoping not being selected by the Boks would push him to a better performance, but he looked like a didn't give a vok all game. He is obviously under orders to kick it a lot more than we used to, so our coaches also have a lot to answer for. You know it's bad when we looked much better with Libbok on.
Anyway, good luck Bulls playing against the Benetton. Pity it isn't against one of the bigger teams, but it doesn't look like anyone in the NH took this tournament any more serious than we did.

That drama pre match was telling. Bulls had every right to use any advantage to win the match. Some may think Jake pulled a twatish move but he did what he did to win.
I am behind them for their next match.
Over Bosch. That kicking is just so old and he didn't try on defense. WP can have him. Boeta is our go to

After his performance in the Currie Cup final and his last few matches, I think he could face an uncertain future. The Sharks will have Boeta, Cronje and Libbok for Currie Cup 5.0 and quite frankly I think they all deserve a gametime ahead of him. He's nowhere near his form from last year and he's nowhere near Bok callup. Not sure what to do with him. Perhaps some gametime out of SA will do him good.

There is something seriously wrong with the Sharks coaching setup. Spitting out so much money and star players like Kolisi and Bosch disappearing. Bongi will go the same route.
They'll struggle in the CC coming up losing 9 players.

To compare Bosch to Willemse is again laughable. He play 15, Bosch 10. Bosch will never take a high ball or have any vision for passing or defense.

I've seen some criticism levelled at the Sharks coaching team being that they don't have a backline specialist and they focus too much on the forwards. I think that holds water, as I think our forward pack haven't had a bad season but our backs have been woeful.

The forwards have done pretty well when you take into account that it is a pretty lightweight pack.
The VERY talented backline has been underwhelming.

I think the last few weeks have shown us that there is a strong need for relegation in the Pro16, at least for the South African teams.
Lions and Sharks have been dreadful, but why bother then you've already got participation in the Pro16 later this year guaranteed? Would be great to see the Cheetahs given a chance to fight for a place in the comp and make the bottom-dwellers work for their opportunity.

Bulls play two games on Saturday. Will support them in the later one

Bulls depth will be tested with two games on one day and no Springboks
By Ashfak Mohamed Time of article published 13h ago
CAPE TOWN - Two Bulls teams playing on the same day in different competitions - without their Springboks. Can it be done?
Well, it is going to, as the Bulls have qualified for Saturday’s Rainbow Cup final against Benetton in Italy (6.30pm kickoff), while another side will face Western Province in their Currie Cup opener at Loftus Versfeld (4pm kickoff).
Bulls director of rugby and head coach Jake White, when asked about it ahead of the 34-22 victory over the Sharks at Kings Park, said it was “much of a muchness” if they had to make it to the Rainbow Cup final.
What is certain at the moment is that they won’t have seven regular players available – injured quartet Duane Vermeulen, Elrigh Louw, Embrose Papier and Arno Botha, and three others who are in the Springbok squad that they will join in Bloemfontein today - Morné Steyn, Trevor Nyakane and Marco van Staden.

‘Play the way the Bulls play’: Jake White delighted with four tries yet again
Bulls want to give South Africa a rugby morale boost ahead of Lions tour, says Jake White
Bulls book a date with Benetton in Rainbow Cup final after Sharks win
On the plus side, White said last week that loosehead prop Lizo Gqoboka “might be available to play against Benetton”. Also, the likes of flyhalf Chris Smith and scrumhalf Zak Burger are sure to be part of the travelling group to Treviso, which is likely to be confirmed on Monday once the Covid-19 test results are received.
The Bulls team have received Covid-19 vaccines, and are set to fly to Treviso via Amsterdam on Monday night.
The Bulls’ depth goes deep, with others like James Verity-Amm, Richard Kriel, Dawid Kellerman and Jan Uys who can be considered as well.
“It was also a difficult one for me because once we scored our fourth try, basically we couldn’t get caught, then you almost don’t want to get injuries for next week. So, it’s like a balancing act – you think I’ve got to give everyone a game because I don’t want any injuries,” White said about the Sharks match.
“But at the same time, you’re just on the cusp of getting some momentum. So, it was a difficult one for a coach to make a call there (to substitute some players). But looking back, we got what we wanted, and no serious injuries.”
For the Currie Cup clash against Western Province, the Bulls management have put some plans into place, but there could be a number of debutants selected.
“We will have to select from who is left over, and from our Carlton League club players. We have been planning for a while now for the Currie Cup because we knew we would be short of players,” White said.
“We have lost seven or eight players to the SA Under-20 camp in Cape Town. I’ve got Pine Pienaar, who’s a technical guy (coach) in our squad, and he has been working behind the scenes to make sure we watched a couple of Carlton League (club) games as well.
“Then we will put a team together from the guys left over, and the guys who have been training with us for the last 10 days. So, I think we should be okay.”
