Sensible comments but i dislike the pretending as it allows the qatari's and fifa to have their cake and eat it. A bit more honesty would help just say that Qatar is a homophobic and misogynistic society compared to western democracies.
It'd be really useful to know what happens to a British journo/subject if they write something that's pro gay rights whilst covering/watching the football in Qatar. But we don't actually know, still, something that doesn't seem to much bother the FCO and now Cleverly

I imagine they’ll be good as gold to foreign nationals whilst the world is watching, Peter Tatchell was arrested for protesting in Doha the other day, but was let go after a couple of hours.

Basically it demonstrates the lack of any capability in Cleverley, and is a demonstration of how shit this government is. It would have been very possible to put together a statement that was at the same time massively critical of Qatar for their anti gay laws and warned gay football supporters to be on their guard in Qatar. So you could make a statement that is supportive of their rights and at the same time making them aware they may have to be on their guard. But Cleverly is such a dumb fuck he's not capable of it.
yup.
Considering Cleverly has always missed votes on gay marriage etc I wonder how supportive of gay rights he actually is.

Downing Street has been forced to deny that a slick new video of Rishi Sunak’s first week as prime minister contains music by the convicted paedophile Gary Glitter. The prime minister’s spokesperson said “stock music” was used for the backing track. She added: “I’m not aware of it costing anything additional to the work that we do in communicating for the prime minister.”

More pressure being applied re Braverman. Sources claiming she fibbed about informing the Cabinet Secretary prior to being taken to task, and sacked, by Truss. And that she was 'amazed' that Truss thought it was a serious breach that she had to resign for.

I'd be amazed if this is the first time she forwarded files from her Office email, to her Personal email; which should be sufficient to sack her in a awful lot of workplaces, including mine.

Wonder if this will be validated, it's from the Mail on Sunday so not holding my breath but
Liz Truss’s personal mobile was hacked by agents suspected of working for Vladimir Putin

Security sources have told the Mail On Sunday a year’s worth of private messages were downloaded. They included top Secret conversations with foreign governments about the war in Ukraine, and politically sensitive messages she exchanged with former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng.

Allies of Liz Truss said that she was so worried news of the hack could derail her chance of claiming the premiership she ‘had trouble sleeping’, until Boris Johnson imposed a news blackout.

I am calling absolute bullshit on this unless she was using her personal mobile to send sensitive information. ( and if thats true she should be severely sanctioned.) Ministerial mobiles are locked down tighter than a gnats arse, fully NCSC configured and would be next to impossible to crack.

There's a theory that it's just an attempt by supporters of "Leaky Sue" Braverman to muddy the waters and distract from her security breaches and put a different light on the bust up she had with Truss prior to her resignation.

If it's Tory Party members or execs behind this then it's another illustration of why they are unfit to govern while obsessed with covering up incompetence and in-fighting. Having dumped Truss she's now the ideal scapegoat.

Who knows though what the truth of it is, maybe there's nothing to it

This shouldn't be allowed to go away
Suella Braverman email could throw fresh doubt over security breach claims

An email sent from Suella Braverman's personal account on the day she had to resign over a security breach could throw fresh doubt over her claims about the speed with which she took action.

The email, seen by the BBC, told the recipient of a highly sensitive message that Ms Braverman had sent in error to "delete and ignore" it.

She has said she reported the mistake "rapidly" to officials.

But the BBC understands it took hours for her to respond.

In her defence, the home secretary said "as soon as I realised my mistake I rapidly reported this on official channels". She said she reported it to the cabinet secretary - the head of the civil service.

But the BBC understands she sent the original email from her personal Gmail account to the wrong person, a member of parliamentary staff, at 7:52 BST on 19 October.

The document was a draft written ministerial statement related to immigration visas containing highly sensitive information about government policy.

At 8:30 the recipient sent her a message saying that it had been sent in error.

At 10:02 a message was then sent from the home secretary's personal Gmail account saying: "Please can you delete the message and ignore".

It is understood the chief whip at the time, Wendy Morton, was told what had happened around half an hour later by the office that had received the message in error. Ms Morton then urgently tried to track down the home secretary to discuss the issue, it is understood.

One source told the BBC there was no evidence that Ms Braverman had raised the incident herself before she was confronted with the mistake later that afternoon, and subsequently had to resign.

But a source close to Ms Braverman said around 12:00, she instructed officials to raise the breach with the cabinet secretary. That is still more than four hours after her original email that broke the rules and two hours after she had asked the recipient to "delete and ignore".

"The home secretary has been clear that once she realised she'd made this error of judgment she proactively reported it on official channels.

"These events need to be seen in the context of a very packed schedule. She recognises she made a mistake, apologised and offered her resignation to the PM," the source said.

Following the usual pattern of the moronic cover-up attempt being a bigger problem than the initial offence, & also it shows that there's no change in attitude between Sunak, & the BB, with the same contempt for the truth, & the public, & the only priority being doing whatever is necessary to secure their own position, & bugger what's best of the Country !

Nor will this I suspect. Especially when Yvette Cooper gets her teeth into it!
Suella Braverman has been accused of failing to act on legal advice that the government was illegally detaining thousands of asylum seekers. The move could cost taxpayers an expensive court action.
The home secretary received advice at least three weeks ago warning that migrants were being detained for unlawfully long periods at the Manston asylum processing centre in Ramsgate, Kent. According to five sources, Braverman, 42, was also told that the legal breach needed to be resolved urgently by rehousing the asylum seekers in alternative accommodation.
Two sources said she was also warned by officials that the Home Office had no chance of defending a legal challenge and the matter could also result in a public inquiry if exposed.

Emergency services attended the Border Force migrant processing centre in Dover, Kent, after incendiary devices were thrown from a car.

A man drove up to the centre and threw three petrol bombs, one of which did not go off, Reuters reported.

The fire at the centre on The Viaduct was put out at about 11:25 GMT, Kent Fire and Rescue Service said.

Kent Police have not confirmed reports that a man killed himself at a nearby petrol station following the incident.

Tory MP who backed cutting abortion time limit named minister for women

Labour and women’s rights groups criticise ‘deeply troubling’ appointment of Maria Caulfield

Maria Caulfield, a Tory MP who supported cutting the abortion time limit and voted against buffer zones outside clinics, has been named as minister for women, prompting criticism from charities and women’s rights groups.

Caulfield, the MP for Lewes, was previously an officer of the all-party parliamentary “pro-life” group and voted against legalising abortion in Northern Ireland.

Harriet Wistrich, the director of the Centre for Women’s Justice, said: “We are horrified that a clear opponent of abortion rights has been appointed minister for women.”

“The vast majority of women want the right to choose,” she added. “Her appointment signals a potential restriction on women’s reproductive rights, which in turn is an attack on women’s autonomy and freedom. We hope Maria Caulfield will keep her personal opinions on the issue of abortion to herself.”

In 2018, when Caulfield was the Tory vice-chair for women, she called for a debate on reducing the 24-week time limit for women to receive legal abortions, describing the 1967 Abortion Act as “one of the most liberal abortion laws in the world”.

Mr Hancock will swap representing his constituents at Westminster for eating bugs in the jungle.
But Tory party managers have taken a dim view of the West Suffolk MP's decision to take part in a reality TV show while Parliament is sitting.
The Tory chief whip said it was "serious enough" to warrant suspension.
