The Pro16 is now called the "United Rugby Championship"
With a surprisingly good format and for the first time ever in this comp Irish teams at a disadvantage, having to kill each other first before progressing to knock-outs and into Europe.

I really wish the SA teams could afford to drop this "named sponsor" bullshit. It looks so tacky when the SA teams a listed among their NH counterparts.
Can we please just go back to Bulls, Lions, Sharks and Stormers? The sponsors can keep their hideous branding plastered all over the jerseys and stadiums, but shoehorning their name into the team name really puts me off. So much so that I actually actively avoid those brands when I can.

I remember a few years ago when Vodacom were all over rugby. I remember once watching a game with my Dad where they introduced the matches as "Welcome to Vodacom Park for this Vodacom Super Rugby match between the Vodacom Cheetahas and the Vodacom Lions"
But nothing beats the Telkom Callmore Mighty Elephants. Someone actually approved that name.

The Please call me Cheetahs would be so apt. Or the miss-call Stormers

Indeed.
Another thing that annoys me is the sponsors branding. In most cases the sponsor has multiple logos and one is chosen that complements the team’s branding.
Red Vodacom logo meshes with the Bulls kit. Cell C has a white or red logo that doesn’t clash with the Sharks’. Black Toyota on the Cheetahs’ and red or white Emirates on the Lions jersey etc.
But that fucking hideous yellow DHL banner on the Stormers and Harlequins jerseys has actively stopped me from investing in a supporters jersey for 10 years now. I refuse to buy one. I’d even be willing to pay more for “sponsor free” team merchandise.

Only WP & Boland keep it original name. Natal = Sharks, N Tvl = Bulls, Tvl = Lions, OVS = Cheetahs.
The sponsors name why worry? Change is part of life, deal with it.

No we are still WP in the oldest provincial competition.
Franchises is a young concept born from Super Rugby.
Originally it was Boland + SWD + WP = Western Stormers = Stormers.
The same from NZ teams. Waikato + North Harbour + Northlands = Waikato Chiefs = Chiefs.
But this thread is about the Guinness Pro14 or whatever the new competition is called. During this competition they are the Stormers.
There is a separate CC thread
Oh okay. You are on bot trolling mode.

Thanks goodness, at least one Italian on the board. I like your captain, watched him as a schoolboy at Paarl Gim. Good luck for tomorrow.

Dewald 2 step Duvenhage. A nice lad, but terribly slow for a scrummie.

"terribly slow" is subjective, compared to most italian scrum halves he's lightning quick
