The government is set to announce that construction of certain sections of HS2 will be delayed in an attempt to cut costs, the BBC understands.
It is thought the delay will primarily affect sections from Manchester to Crewe and Birmingham to Crewe.

Because they're well into the jobs at Euston and the tunnelling has reached Amersham from the M25. These delays are the farcical part - build it and let it recoup costs faster.

Agreed. The 7 minutes quicker thing always annoys me as it misses the point about freeing up capacity.

Saw someone on Twitter saying they needed to call it High Capacity 2.

I kind of red pilled on housing and infrastructure these days - I want them to build it right through the house of every fucking NIMBY.

Another £230m on top of the £300m we've already paid since 2014..........whilst the number trying to cross the channel have increased year on year!!!

Fishing is an EU, not national competency.

Listened to him and thought he was going to burst a blood vessel! However like him or loath him he was spot on with his comments and the double standards displayed by the BBC. Brilliant stuff and I got the impression that the R5 presenter enjoyed his roasting of the BBC and wasn't going to interrupt. Ian Wright is a guy I like.

Football media is a tough gig to get recognition, I'm sure they'll get some C-listers.

They should bring Le Tissier involved. He's of the right political opinions to do well at the BBC.

We have been informed that players involved in today’s games will not be asked to participate in interviews with Match of the Day.

The PFA have been speaking to members who wanted to take a collective position and to be able to show their support for those who have chosen not to be part of tonight’s programme.

During those conversations we made clear that, as their union, we would support all members who might face consequences for choosing not to complete their broadcast commitments.

This is a common sense decision that ensures players won’t now be put in that position.
