Some of those are academy as well. 5 by my count - McVie, McConnell, Freddie Douglas, Currie, Finn Douglas. Makes a squad size of 45 which I think is in line with past years.

Lucky Darcy - a huge chance to become Scotland's all time 2nd or 3rd highest scorer. Bad luck to Duhan on missing out!

Yeah, it was a fairly straight forward selection, I think I had Duhan starting but then I wasn't sure if it would be him or Steyn
I'd be surprised if Gilcho doesn't start against Ireland, Kinghorn probably won't get on the park against Romania, I'd be tempted to keep him and Jones for injury emergency only

I’m actually surprised. I suppose Toony had the choice of giving the first team another run out together, or picking all the reserves. I expected him to do the former and he did the latter.

There are a good few in that team for whom this is their World Cup, they should be going all out 1, to do their very best for the team, 2 to show that they are not just dirt trackers they are very good players, 3 to show Toonie that he should have picked them in the first place.

Same approach as 2019 then mass changes between games 2 and 3 and then 3 and 4 with a different centre partnership in each game.
Question isn't whether we can beat Romania, it is whether the first team attack can come together v Ireland. 4 years ago it didn't v Japan.

Yes, will be interesting to see if France play Uruguay/Chile/Brazil - particularly if they are going as WC winners. Also Italy and Ireland could have an interesting stop somewhere

They won't.
Scotland and Italy play tier2s on a summer tour because the tier1s don't see either as a commercially viable 3 match series. And the other tier1s don't play the tier2s on a stop for that reason.
It's a shame really as I'm sure the players would love a week in Fiji coming home from NZ but you need to sort the global calendar for that. They don't love another match after a long season.

I'll emphasise again that Scotland not having three match series against the big SH teams was primarily our decision.

Team out for the big game on Saturday
Considering the injury list ( god knows what they have been doing in pre season training)
Great to see RT10 starting -hope he can stay injury free this season
Interesting to see how the young lock pairing of Samuel & Ferrie go-looks like Williamson must be injured.
Time for some of the youngsters to put up their hands here
Surprise , Surprise - looks like light rain on Saturday night , hey-ho - start as you mean to go on
1 Nathan McBeth
2 Angus Fraser
3 Lucio Sordoni
4 Alex Samuel
5 Euan Ferrie
6 Gregor Brown
7 Ally Miller
8 Henco Venter
9 Jamie Dobie (C)
10 Ross Thompson
11 Kyle Rowe
12 Tom Jordan
13 Duncan Munn
14 Sebastian Cancelliere
15 Facundo Cordero
16 Corey Tait
17 Tom Banatvala
18 Callum Norrie
19 Ruaraidh Hart
20 Jonny Morris
21 Ben Afshar
22 Duncan Weir

Kyle Rowe could be phenomenal for Glasgow, he will really fit the style.
Ally Miller has been unlucky, he was often Edinburgh's best back row on the park before he moved over. Afshar came onto good form in U20s after a shaky start, very disappointing campaign, though.
edit, I've just noticed Jonny Morris among the subs, he looked like a good prospect

I really wonnder what was learned from that game. Scott in the first half looked better than Savala at 10 in the second, but the second half backs were hamstrung by what was going on in front of them. A few players only played 20mins as they were playing Super 6 over the weekend.
My former prop son was surprised and impressed by the way the young props held up given that he watches them in Super 6 and was not very confident.

I thought that in the first half, the defensive structure and organisation was really good, apart from the brain fart for their trt off a scruffy line out. Second half a very different story.

Well, I got stuck in Embra. Was at a conference in Glasgow, came through for one night to see my son at uni, then the whole West coast line was shut down on Friday. And today’s a strike day, so I’m going to have to try and squeeze onto a train tomorrow morning.
On the plus side, heading to the pub with the son to watch the game later.

Been a while since I’ve done it! Was considering the Pear Tree this evening but their main screen is outside, and I don’t think it’s the weather for it. Meeting my son at Bar 50, but might move to Three Sisters, Cold Town House, The Tron or anywhere in the vicinity!

I think the Embra fans group use Cold Town House as a venue when they are playing away. I was in the Grassmarket a few weeks ago and it all looked a bit shabby, not what I remembered at all.
Not Cold Town House, though, that looked quite good.
The Pear Tree was a big favourite of mine, about a hundred years ago
