Jon Drezner warns about the massive increase he has seen in myocarditis in athletes since COVID has hit.

Many cases have been asymptomatic but there is an obvious concern about SCD down the line.

Massive increase :
It is a rare condition, but the COVID-19 virus has been linked with myocarditis with a higher frequency than other viruses, based on limited studies and anecdotal evidence since the start of the pandemic.

No one knows

The concern has "made the bar higher" for returning to fall sports, said Dr. Jonathan Drezner, director of the University of Washington Medicine Center for Sports Cardiology and a sports medicine physician who advises the NCAA on cardiac issues, "and it could be we don't get there."
He’s certainly concerned.

“Even the Advil and acetaminophen wouldn’t help my fevers,” said J.N. Just 34 years old, he was diagnosed with COVID-induced myocarditis and severe heart failure. Doctors admitted him to the intensive care unit and placed him on a lifesaving intra-aortic balloon pump due to the very poor function of his heart. He spent two weeks in the hospital, has suffered recurrences since his discharge, and now says, “I’m very careful. I’m very concerned about the length of time I’ve been feeling sick, and if these symptoms are lifelong or will go away anytime soon.” J.N. said that everyday activities, like carrying his one-year-old daughter up a flight of stairs, leave him feeling winded and fatigued. He has been unable to work since March.
Fuck. That.

Greater Manchester lockdown easing U-turn after cases rise

Parts of Greater Manchester will not have lockdown restrictions eased as planned following a government U-turn.

Measures in Bolton and Trafford were due to be eased overnight after a fall in cases earlier in August.

But they will "now remain under existing restrictions" following "a significant change in the level of infection rates over the last few days", the government announced.

The region's mayor Andy Burnham had called the proposed easing "illogical".
This Government is very good at one thing, U-turns.

If you're wondering about the reference to the u-turn

here's Matt Hancock... yesterday
https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk ... n-18862312
Leaders in Bolton are pleading with the government NOT to lift local restrictions tomorrow.

A row in Trafford erupted after the council asked for restrictions to stay in place - only for Mr Hancock to announce otherwise.

Hancock the Bullshitter who the other day announced he was going to change the law to allow practice nurses to administer vaccines, something they have already been doing for years and years, he really is a useless cunt.

We were going through to our friends in Glasgow this weekend. Just a quiet evening in their house. Unfortunately according to the latest Scottish government directive we can no longer do that and we now have to meet in the safe environment of a crowded pub as this is less risky. :wtf: :wtf:

Deaths in private homes are still occurring above average levels. Since week ending 26 July, there have been more excess non-COVID-19 deaths in private homes than #COVID19 deaths in all settings.

But we protected the NHS.

If it’s a crowded pub it’s not meeting the guidelines.

Something that is surely a direct consequence of the pandemic, given that, without the disease those adverse effects would not have existed. So thanks for, yet again, bringing our attention to that causal relationship. All the same, most of us get it......

It’s a direct consequence of policy around lockdowns and the deliberate use of “fear” as a method of compliance.

I’m really not sure how you reach the conclusion that I’m scared. And my statement regarding the use of “fear” is a fact rather than your “direct consequence “ nonsense. But hey you’re opinion from the village is always welcome.

Worrying jump in the number of new cases in the UK. Jumped up to 2998 - highest since May, albeit greater testing since then, but a huge increase in recent days that can't be explained by more testing.

Good point

On the subject of “the normal flu season”, I think there’s a good chance we don’t have a bad one. Assuming most people use sensible Covid precautions, that must have a significant impact on normal flu transmission rates.
