On the up side, the Bill McLaren Shield comes to Musselburgh after beating table topping Marr away today!

Honestly. The end of that game summed up Glasgow’s day. Phase, phase, phase, phase, little progress, eventually lose the ball forward. Sorry Clydecloggie, but can’t see them being anything more than also-rans on that evidence.

Plus point - Kyle Rowe looked sharp and excellent.

20 mins into the Embra game, and they are also delivering a masterclass in how not to turn pressure into points.

Was about to post that it was distressing me how badly Embra were playing. Then Ashman pulls that score out of nowhere.

The Lions are no mugs, I'll take the win.

It was a better performance than last week, as long as we can keep improving (the lineout was pish, the scrum was poorly refereed) we can have a decent season.

Jesus. Embra made seriously heavy weather of that. They should have been a couple of scores to the good after the first quarter. At least they won the game.

Noticeable that the lineout went to shite as soon as Cherry went off. Ashman is fabulous in the loose but it is depressing to think that the future for Scotland still includes a terrible lineout.

At least one of Cherry's throws was wheiched, the whole lineout system needs sorted root and and branch, for Glasgow and Scotland too.

edit, the other thing is that we lost against the Lions last time out at the Dam/Hive after being the better side and missing scores all over the shop. I'll take winning ugly for now

Giving the players the benefit of the doubt weed to remember most of the Edinburgh team are getting to know a new coach and what he expects. They need to be better though.

I don't know what the logic of this is given that neither Italy nor Scotland played each other and there is no promotion/relegation from WXV1/2. I could understand it if it was then rebalanced in the next year when you complete the missing matches.

That being said, I've enjoyed watching the past few weeks with all the matches in this group and it's no less than our Women have deserved, the improvement in performance and results has been really impressive over the last few years.

So we shouldn’t congratulate them because the format isn’t perfect.

Gee, thanks for that advice.

The format is a bit odd - and we had the opportunity to find a whole new way of losing for a Scotland team, by winning every match comfortably - but I think it was a great idea to split the abilities like that rather than getting humped by the big guns.

I have a good friend who is part of the back room staff and he said having the time together before and during the tournament has seen remarkable changes in just about every facet of the team and a real game changer within the wider squad

I watched last night game at a function in town - awful evening.

But I arrived a bit early and went for a pint in a pub to watch the 2nd half of the Edinburgh game. Started chatting to a guy also watching and I was telling him about Musselburghs win yesterday and he was saying he was from Glenrothes and was down at Dunbar watching East Fife play. Talked for about 20 minutes about the respective games and clubs before realise he was talking about football and I was talking about rugby 😂

Rewatching the embra match. Was in the pub watching on my phone so didn't really take much in other than Ashman's try. Watched the weegies earlier, why did they not go for a DG?

The solo try was superb. But the team try had everything. I swear I could HEAR that finish all the way from North Wales!

Good win for Weegies last night - pack really fronted up and defence was superb against a top team in the Stormers. Couldn't quite get a BP win but they played sensible rugby and looked comfortable for most of the game. Captain McDowell was a real stand out, big and strong but also incredibly skillful with hands and with boot. Franco has made such a difference to his game and he will be pushing for a Scotland start soon.

Yeah Glasgow have some real talent in the centres. I'm hoping Matt Currie shows a similar level of improvement to MacDowall, he looks like he has the potential to do so. There's almost exactly three years between them.

Genuine question for anyone watching the Edinburgh match. The cherry penalty just then for playing the 9, when does the 9 ‘become the 9’ so to speak. In that occasion the 9 had not played the ball nor had he tried to. The ruck was under contest. Why is that playing the 9? Surely he needs to at least have his hands on it and for the ruck to be over?

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Posted: Sat Nov 04, 2023 3:25 pm
by Jock42
I thought he had, or was maybe just about to, play the ball. He's unlucky either way as he was about to clear out the other player who moved.

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Posted: Sat Nov 04, 2023 3:32 pm
by KingBlairhorn
I guess i thought since it was an unresourced ruck that cherry literally just stepped over and given the 9 had yet to touch the ball then how can the ref decide he is the 9 rather than a player coming to contest the ruck?

You need a bit of luck to win at the RDS. Edinburgh have had none.

A lack of accuracy at times and certainly some brainlessness but also some right bad luck.

Edinburgh are masters at being able to turn the clock back, unfortunately it always seems to be to a time when they were toothless and a bit clueless !

So frustrating watching very good players suddenly look like they have no clue what they are doing !

It’s such a frustrating watch. Edinburgh just don’t believe they can win. They are making so many errors under zero little to no pressure. That must be mental.
