Yes. So the theory that Vellacott might be unavailable for some time clearly isn’t what is going on. I think he’s had a falling out with the coach, and the SRU has offered a move down the M8 as a means of keeping the peace without causing contractual issues.

This.

For all the talk about Dobie, it is all still very much potential rather than performance that would get him a call up up to this point. Which is no bad thing for a 22 year old.

At the age of 22 Dobie has 54 caps for Glasgow - compare that to Sean Kennedy who has less than half that

He will certainly get more chances now that Price has moved across to the dark side - but there seems some myth that Dobie rarely gets playing time , which the stats don't bare out

Glasgow Team for the Ospreys on Saturday

Probably the weakest team that Glasgow have fielded this season.

Time for Rowe & Venter to make an impression , as neither of them have shown anything much in the games they have played so far.

14 Sebastian Cancelliere (27)
13 Sione Tuipulotu (37)
12 Stafford McDowall (Captain) (60)
11 Kyle Rowe (2)

10 Duncan Weir (136)
9 Jamie Dobie (54)

1 Jamie Bhatti (90)
2 Johnny Matthews (53)
3 Lucio Sordoni (18)
4 Sintu Manjezi (11)
5 Richie Gray (103)
6 Matt Fagerson (96)
7 Sione Vailanu (22)
8 Henco Venter (3)

Substitutes

16 Angus Fraser (6)
17 Allan Dell (5)
18 Enrique Pieretto (31)
19 Greg Peterson (35)
20 Alex Samuel (9)
21 Ally Miller (16)
22 Sean Kennedy (24)
23 Tom Jordan (27)

Unavailable for selection: Fraser Brown (knee), Facundo Cordero (ankle), Huw Jones (foot) JP du Preez (knee), Kyle Steyn (ankle), Murphy Walker (calf)

I think both things can be true, he has gotten game time but also need more chances to play more minutes.

Over his 50 games for Glasgow he will have averaged probably 32-33 minutes with about a third of those as starts. He needs more starts and more time on the pitch at this point if he really is the next big prospect at 9.

The irony is that Dobie was offered a Stage 3 contract by Edinburgh when Edinburgh clearly needed strengthening in that area, then Rennie gazumped them with the offer of a full pro deal for Dobie.

He'd likely be Edinburgh's starter by now if he'd stayed this side of the country.

Never knew that. Tbf though, at the time Shiel was probably the next big thing and a couple of years older. Would he have had as much game time or would Shiel have been ahead of him?

I watched one of the games Rowe played (I can’t recall who it was against now) and I thought he looked decent, with a couple of good line breaks.

Grayson off to Japan after this weekend so no depth at 10 for Saints. If Fin Smith gets injured they would probably use Furbank there so guess his game time would depend on injuries

That's a good move for him. He was quite fancied by Mike Blair and some of the other Scotland coaches and looks good ball in hand, but has no game management and didn't do much with his opportunities last season.

Yeah, just feels as if he hasn’t had a run. 54 appearances is one thing, but how often has he had the responsibility of starting and leading.

I've read much more hype about the laddie Scott in about four appearances than I have in Savala's 30 turn outs for the club.

We always want the new guy to be the answer, but it hasn't happened yet.

There is something seriously wrong at Edinburgh, the squad is strong but they fail to deliver year on year.

I remember Rory Hutton getting talked about for years as the new potential 10 after 1 forty minute performance.

I think Savala would have been well served by getting more game time at Super 6 level but Edinburgh prefer their youngsters to be training instead of playing.

I have only seen Savala play for Edinburgh and not been very impressed.

I know a number of players who have played Super 6 with and against him, they are not impressed either. They reckon he's a good enough Super 6 player on the basis that when most pro players drop to Super 6 they stand out, and he does not.

Yeah, I seem to recall Harry Leonard was hyped for a bit after a few sporadic appearances. I guess you’ll snatch at any odd bit of hope when you’re desperate.

You can never really be sure who is going to be the real deal. Finn Russell wasn’t a first choice at U20 level - I remember him coming on as a sub in a game v Wales in Colwyn Bay.

Me and the wife were down The Shed at Kingsholm yesterday, naturally I kept a close eye on Finn.

Should say that the Harris try was right in front of me, excellent bit of work from him there.

Finn looks very much in control already which is great to see. Looks like he took on the captaincy when Spencer got a yellow, not sure if that was the case though?

He was chatting to the ref quite a bit, even when Spencer was back on. Just looked very controlled, definitely a leader in the team and like he's slotted right in. Don't recall any howlers either.

Yeah, I thought he played very well. And, although the referee wasn't having it, he was pushing for him to review the play leading up to Spencer's card and was quite right that there were earlier Gloucester offences and the card shouldn't have been given.

It was a knock on at the base of a ruck by Varley prior to the incident that drew the Spencer yellow card. Commentators picked up on it. Not a peep from from the TMO!

Yup. It was rather weird. And, as Finn pointed out to the ref, Gloucester had only won possession at the breakdown because they cleared out so far beyond the ruck. Anyhoo, Bath won so natural justice done and all that.

I am increasingly impressed by how Finn interacts with Refs. Wish the current Scottish captain spoke to them in a similar reasonable tone 🙈

Didn’t get the Hattrick score…yet!

I’m afraid expecting to win a top class game with weir at 10 these days feels optimistic. Is Thompson still injured? I thought he was supposed to be fit again?

Dobie was minging, not sure what’s going on with him, he looked class when he broke through.

The Ospreys try was hilariously offside btw, how did the ref not see it. He must have been a metre ahead at least.
