Yup. Between the officials and Volavola, they've killed Fiji.

You know the officials must be bad when a Kiwi commentator calls a NZ forward pass that they missed.

But was that Impartial Marshall by any chance?

Loved the 21 bouncing off and being upset :D. Miles away from the mark :D.

It was both, but Marshall gets dung thrown at him for his attempts to be neutral

Fiji really need to help their teammates out, they clearly can't hear/understand etc the ref's calls in the breakdown, they need their teammates to tell them to stop.

Come on. There's no way that was a clear release. If the player on the floor hadn't been holding on, it wouldn't have been lost.
EDIOT - And a knock on on the floor from NZ.

I think we've all given up with this ref.

Just wondering how many times the 15 (JB and now DMac) has come in to first receiver while BB has been on the park.

Big Vern is doing a decent job with Fiji, if they get their full compliment of players and a fair go from the officials they will be a very good side.

They could do with a fly half, mind.

Yeah. That last try, and then that turnover apparently supporting his own bodyweight...
NZ definite winners, but feck me why make it harder on Fiji.

Think Fiji can take a lot from that in very trying circumstances. Volavola needs a lesson on when to put the ball into touch.......... but then he does play in France.

Terrific effort from Fiji.

Much better second half by the ABs, esp when the front row got swapped. Thought de Groot had a great debut, and Lomax is developing nicely. I've always said that when Coles and Taylor are in the test 23, Coles has to start every time. Whitelock and Jacobson also very good.

Pretty good effort for the first 60, the extent of the scoreline gap feels like it belies the nature of the game.

Kunavula has only been playing 15s for around 18 months or so, I don't think he looked out of place at all.

I hope Fiji get Radrada and Mata back next week.

The ABs were the better side, no doubt, but it does leave a bit of a sour taste when they get those helping hands throughout the match.
I expect New Zealand to be better next week.

Not sure how long Glen Jackson has been part of the setup with Fiji but it’s a pretty good move to have a ref on board. He hasn’t had enough effect yet obviously but you’d assume it will at some stage.

Very good line speed by Fiji, but both Havili and Ioane threw a number of poor passes. Not what you want from your centres.

And Barrett's goalkicking was terrible - he missed several easy shots...under a roof ffs...

While I'm flinging mud around, who else thought Sotutu didn't make the most of his chances off the back of the scrum? Thought that was a strength of his game.

That was a seriously good effort by Fiji against a disjointed AB side, made for an entertaining game at least.

He did get a decent kick in the face which must have been uncomfortable for most of the game. Looked like that type of throbbing numbish type of annoying sensation around the eye socket and raked across the jaw. Not a terrible injury but probably annoying enough to be losing a bit of concentration.

Not to mention the obvious concern over possible blurred vision. So wtf was he even kicking?

Well. I’m pleased for Fiji.

Showed some professional class at times. Good outfit. Especially that line out maul try, looked tier 1 quality.

Well the centers are not too Intl ready.

Havili mixed game. Ioane seemed to be too shallow or at least seemed to always be collecting the ball not comfortably managing the contact, and then unable to distribute it.

Jealous to see the players being able to play test rugby. The crowd really are fortunate to attend. All Blacks had a decent run out and test. Springboks far from the level displayed today.

Looks like NZ got intimidated by Fiji's physical play for big parts of the game.

Imagine the difference if you swop the coaching teams...

Aidan Ross has joined the squad as injury cover for Karl T, who has a shoulder problem.

I was disappointed with our starting front row last night. Bower was OK, but Taylor and Laulala didn't play very well at all, imho. De Groot was good when he came on...I hope Moli can make it back into the squad at some stage...reckon it might be time for a serious review of our core propping contingent - Moody, Ofa, Laulala, Karl, Ta'avao - coz as things stand our fatties are well down the international pecking order. Too harsh?

De Groot is a good surname for a forward.

Given that Moody is currently injured and therefore not playing, it does seem excessively harsh on him. Along with Bower, who's developing nicely, deGroot, who's definitely promising, and possibly even Ross, the ABs' loosehead stocks are fine. The problems, and they are big, are at tighthead. Franks may well have been jettisoned too soon.

Yeah, unfair on Moody who's been our best performing prop in recent years. Angus is playing pretty well I guess, but the others? Meh. I'm impatient to see Moli back, De Groot get lots of game time this year, and hopefully Te Maiti Williams will continue his excellent progress and be in the mix by 2023. But you're dead right about tighthead - that's a big concern.

Anyhow, the second test team's being announced shortly...
