Skyrim plays on anything.

Fair enough, I'm sure it'll be portable to a new xbox as and when you get one.sefton wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2020 6:23 pmI don’t know but as I only have my MacBook Pro and a work laptop I’m not going to be using it on a PC.Raggs wrote: Mon Jul 27, 2020 6:19 pmSmart move. Does that allow you to play it on PC to? The game is in your microsoft account? Watchdogs Legion looks a bit mental, but I guess the action stuff has more impact for trailers. Hopefully the stealth approach is still an option.
Total War saga Troy, the latest one, is free for another 22 hours or so, via Epic.
Be rude not to pick it up at that price, will try it later too probably.

Starting a playthrough of Horizon Zero Dawn on the PC. Was aware of its existence at the time it came out on the PS4 but ignored it as it was an exclusive. Looks like a really interesting story and good gameplay too. Serious negative reviews being put out but all from a performance point of view and my gut tells me it's people expecting 2020 graphical performance from a 3 year old PS4 port. As an owner of a 3 year old gaming laptop I'm very much enjoying it!
Anyone played and have any non spoiler tips?

Think your gut might be a bit off there - old console games absolutely should run like butter on modern PCs because consoles simply don't have the same grunt available to them. It's a fuckup that means HZD performance is so bad for some people, not wrong expectations. It's getting patched but crashes, freezes, and major framerate issues are all down to the developers screwing up the port.CM11 wrote: Fri Aug 14, 2020 11:37 pm Starting a playthrough of Horizon Zero Dawn on the PC. They didn't just try to port it though. They increased the graphics and most people complaining seem to have newer cards, suggesting they screwed up trying to optimise it for higher grunt.JM2K6 wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2020 10:50 amThink your gut might be a bit off there - old console games absolutely should run like butter on modern PCs because consoles simply don't have the same grunt available to them. Haven't played much for a couple of weeks now. Plan on getting back into witcher 3, will just push on with the main quests for a while though. HZD is a game I'd like to play, but can't see it happening for a while. Bannerlord is going to be a solid fall back option for some time, with cyberpunk being the game that's going to force me to upgrade my system with a ray tracing card.

Just to clarify, I'm not letting the developers off/criticising those with high expectations although my sentence does read like that. Just saying I think the problems lie when trying to get higher graphics/framerates, something I can't aim for anyway.

Total Warhammer has a big Wood Elves update coming apparently as well as some general stuff for the Mortal Empires campaigns, so I've started playing them for the first time to get a sense of what they're like now and what the changes will be.
More like people with older cards expect bad performance already.CM11 wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2020 12:58 pmThey didn't just try to port it though. It's a shitshow!
It's a game that promised a lot but got badly hurt by the fanbase convincing themselves it would be something it was never going to be. At its heart it works best as a chilled out exploration and discovery game. I've not messed with the creative side of it much but it's worth a play as the whole procgen thing works quite well now and they have added a lot of content to widen the ways you can play the game.Ymx wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2020 1:12 pm What’s people’s take on the no mans sky game?
Obviously controversial, but understand it eventually delivered and some more.

Some of my reading did suggest it works fine if you just try and play it at PS4 quality. Hence my point that they got that part right but not a lot else.
Fair enough. Only had one crash.JM2K6 wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2020 5:40 pm Things like the stuttering and some of the crashes have so far been shown to be independent of graphical quality settings.
Tbf, I never usually buy new releases and was well warned so expectations were low anyway. Was looking for a decent rpg to get my daughter into and it seemed to be the best one for her age.

Just finished HoS in Witcher 3.

Took the rose and jumped in to save Olgierd's neck. Even though he's a shit, GOD shouldn't be let run free.
And speaking of him, I assume he's analogous to the devil?

The stories in HOS and B&W are brilliant. Great characters and villains, especially compared to the base game where Eredin is a bit of a wet fart by the end.
The story of Iris and Olgierd is brilliant, tragic, etc. The painted world and gradual telling of their story is done really well
HOS also has the best boss fights in the whole game. Olgierd himself, giant toad, the caretaker (who's properly terrifying), Iris' nightmare.
The creative teams absolutely knocked it out of the park. Both the writing and artistic stuff.

Not clear if he's the devil, or just a devil like creature. He's certainly the most powerful entity in the game and plays with people's lives for amusement.

MS Flight Sim released overnight, 90 GB download was only 12% when I had to leave for work this morning. Bloody flight stick I ordered on 15 July still hasn't arrived yet
Horizon Zero Dawn , done a few hours on it now. pretty cool. runs butter smooth on my system @ 100 fps on 3440 x 1440 (Ryzen 5 3600 with 2060)

Christ this stuff can get annoying,
I ordered a flightstick on 15 July, still not arrived. MS Flight sim dropped yesterday.
No problem. I can get by with some keyboard flying and get used to the interface, do some lessons etc etc. first flight - release the parking break, assigned to a key not on my keyboard.
except the flight controls are all on the number pad, my keyboard doesn't have a number pad. trying to re-assign buttons is a complete pain the arse as you first have to find and clear an existing assignment before trying to assign the new one.
ordered a USB connector so I can use xbox controller instead.
Horizon Zero Dawn, 2 days ago loses keyboard assignments and resets to default as does GFX settings. Yesterday it re-ran the GFX assessment (I assume because I installed new nvidia drivers or because they're trying to deal with performance issues) , it take like 20 fcking minutes. can't skip.
GFX fan is now exhibiting a ticking resonance/vibration noise at around 70% fan speed (which is pretty much where is sits when running Horizon Zero Dawn) - had to manually adjust the fan curve to avoid it.

Sounds like you're having fun :D. I just use a usb cable to play with my controller, can't be bothered to pay for an adapter when I've got loads of cables sitting around.

Jealous, would be great to fly into Stewart Island, or any one of those remote parts of the Pacific or certainly Queenstown, where are you approaching here?

Flight sims are boring, combat flight sims are where it is at. Anyone can take off, do spot of VFR and land, try doing it with a SU-35 on your ass and a rough landing on a aircraft carrier, at night, in rough seas, with one wing and all your navigation and electronic systems down, and no landing gear or throttle and yaw control.. just half a tail hook.
Did I say at night?

For a guy claiming he's so poor for being fucked over by the Government without any free handouts and can't afford a TV license, you sure do seem to spend a lot of cash on non-essentials.Line6 HXFX wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2020 6:11 pm Flight sims are boring, combat flight sims are where it is at.
