One thing we don’t lack right now is wingers with a good finish in them

I like the way the Scottish team have a sense of humour as well.

Was Eddie-going-insane era and he thought Guy Porter was the better option from that Tigers team

How was that not held up over the line. He allowed them minutes to retrieve it.

Good way for Scotland to end that. Excellent win in the end.

Now the real question is whether they can break the Ireland/France lock on the top 2 in the 6N.

Yep he was staring at it clearly over the line from a few inches away

Good defensive showing for Scotland on possibly Tandy's last match.

Spoiler alert. We can't. We won't win both away in London and away in Paris.

Still a lot going wrong but you can't really argue with a 4 try win.

Jamie Ritchie had his best game in a Scotland shirt for a while.

Well, we managed it in 2021. I still think about the 1-point loss to Wales after Zander Fagerson was sent off. Any kind of win in that game would have won us the title.

Has cut out the penalties too.
People forget that Zander started playing for Scotland when he was 20, which is insanely young for a tighthead. I suspect few Test THPs were regular starters much before 25. He was such a precocious talent and our resources are so poor at THP that we had to watch him work the bad stuff out of his game whilst wearing a blue shirt. Now he has done that, he’s 28 and approaching his prime. We wouldn’t know about all the old failings in his game if he’d been the finished article when we started capping him.

It's not that uncommon these days tbh. Cole, Sinckler, Stuart (I think), Furlong, various Kiwis, Allan Alalaatoa, James Slipper, and probably a fair few Saffers like du Toit were playing internationals pretty regularly before they hit 25.

No question he's improved his discipline out of sight.

Scotland pack is solid in all departments- lots to work with from there.

I would not bet @gainst them in the 6N

A comfortable win, where we were clearly the better side, against one of the big three SH teams, while our line out was shit, we gave away shitloads of penalties and left at least twenty points out there from handling errors and missed kicks.

That sounds positive to me. Sort the bad stuff, anndnits stuff that can be sorted through training and practice, and we’re a good team.

The Wallabies was definitely not the SH top 3. They were at the bottom and only won 1 test.

Agreed! I thought Scotland played well and grew into the game, we gradually ground down the Aussies and superior fitness was obvious. Aussies really struggled to get beyond the gain line with ball in hand and struggled to attack us close in or out wide. Aussies are no mugs having beaten England and gave Wales a real thumping but looked 2nd best in almost all departments against us. Yeh we made a few mistakes with ball in hand but I suspect that is because we are trying to play at real pace and attacking lines were excellent, I would rather we tried and dropped the odd ball than play a safety first game with no momentum. When we go it right it towards the end of the game we looked pretty smooth. No real failures in the team or subs and it was good to see Ritchie back at his best, he made sure we didn't miss Dempsey at all. All in all a decent AI series.

Only wee niggle for me this series was I felt the SA game was closer than the scoreline suggested.

Still though, a decent series. I'd put Scotland as a fairly clear 5th in the world right now. Would be nice to see them push for results vs Ireland and NZ (if we ever play them again).

It’s written in the laws somewhere that Scotland never get a crack at NZ if they look vulnerable.

I'm new to the Bored and making a first pitch, so easy goes, but I thought I'd add a smallish footnote to this thread. I thought Ben White was more influential on Saturday than seems to have been noticed. His clearance kicks were top notch, getting extremely good distance and easing the pressure on Scotland's pack while sending the Aussie forwards right back up the paddock. In contrast, the Australian clearance efforts had nothing approaching the same length, and kept them under pressure, far deeper into their own half. Not decisive perhaps, but absolutely what was needed and warranting a good thumbs up.

More generally, I've been into rugby in a fairly big way since I was twelve. I went to my first international in 1967, seeing Scotland lose to the All Blacks 3-14, with Colin Meads getting sent off and me wondering why the Glasgow schools were always given the crap seats behind the posts in the schoolboys' enclosure. A sense of injustice and a vague, but ever-present foreboding of impending disappointment have been the backdrop to too many of the intervening years, though I must say I am revelling in Scotland's current approach. (I rather like Australia's too). And for all the miserable days, just one, like the URC final earlier this year, can of course wipe the slate almost completely clean. It's a manageable mental health problem really.

I played, mostly at rabbit level, in Glasgow, London, Oxford, Sydney and in HM Forces, and over the years have been to a fair few internationals. Mostly now however, it's a case of raging at the telly. But I think it's time for me to rage a bit on the Bored now, having been a mere passive obsever for a while......

Welcome BagfordViper.

I agree on White, he's the prefect foil for Finn and Sione, who plays first receiver as often as Fin does.

Not a PR refugee, other than in witnessing its forum degenerate to the pointlessness.

And no longer resident in Glasgow, but always Glaswegian. I did work in Edinburgh for a few years, but always saw it essentially as missionary work.
