One wonders how devout Catholic Jacob Rees-Mogg squares away his beliefs in following the adulterous, twice divorced, abortion procuring liar who used hard working taxpayers' money to maintain a mistress.

Lucky for "Boris" that he's a rich posh japester, and not a filthy chav with multiple kids from different women, blagging benefits.

Rees-Mogg is a fucking snake putting on a front and is probably more than happy to follow Boris while his own loathesome policies get enacted. He more than anyone else in Govt cosies up with the far-right mob.

Rees-Mogg definitely the type to appear in front of his house with the wife and children explaining to the Press how she and God have forgiven him for his terrible lapse of judgement.

I thought she had admitted to the affair over a year ago. As far as I can see the only 'world exclusive' for the Mirror, is that she has now provided more salacious detail, but the central point that she had an affair with Boris while he was Mayor has been known for some time.
Not sure if it was on the record, and certainly not with any detail.

The question is whether Boris lied about it when being investigated for flinging money and contracts at his mistress.
He's been a pathological liar for most of his life and was fired from at least 2 jobs for lying. So we could probably make a reasonably accurate guess to the answer.

You know that, I know that, most people know that. But it is something that needs an official answer, and some consequences.

This Guardian report from October last year suggests she had tacitly admitted it by then:

I agree that the issue is Boris's lies and whether she got funding because she was shagging him, but I don't think the Mirror report adds anything to our understanding of that point. The Police report has already concluded that he should have reported the relationship, and that, while he didn't fling money at her, it is reasonable to assume that those who did were aware that they were in a relationship. From the Guardian article:

“While there was no evidence that Mr Johnson influenced the payment of sponsorship monies or participation in trade missions, there was evidence to suggest that those officers making decisions about sponsorship monies and attendance on trade missions thought that there was a close relationship between Mr Johnson and Ms Arcuri, and this influenced their decision-making.”

Was it, his own; or taxpayers money that funded, the supposed IT Training he was getting ?

If it was the latter; then surely there deserves to be an investigation into whether or not expenses fraud was committed ?

I'm sure the bunny boiler can confirm if any training actually took place ?

The statement that the IOPC found the allegations to be 'untrue and unfounded' is such a blatant lie, given that what it actually found was that his relationship with her should have been declared as an interest, and that his failure to do so could have amounted to a breach of the Greater London assembly’s code of conduct.

Boris Johnson funneling tax payer money to a woman he was shagging still won't hurt him politically. There is nothing he can do that will hurt him politically now.

Agree. It says everything about the United Kingdom that a Cabinet Minister who is giving contracts to mates takes over from a Mayor who was arrested for giving contracts to mates.

Conservative voters are absolutely fine with a corrupt government so long as that corruption isn't increasing their taxes. That's just how it is.

The Financial Times reports that people familiar with the matter have claimed former UK prime minister David Cameron, who became an advisor to Greensill Capital in 2018, urged his former colleagues to increase the financial services company’s access to state-backed emergency Covid loan schemes.
It came just months before the firm collapsed – filing for insolvency this month – and leaving the taxpayer potentially liable for any losses.
FT, Times and S Times well into this story over the weekend with Cameron laying very low indeed! All links behind paywalls.....sorry!!
The Times’ Steve Swinford says David Cameron told friends he stood to make $60 million from the listing of the Greensill firm at the center of his murky lobbying scandal. The Sunday Times’ Gabriel Pogrund had the definitive read on everything you need to know about Cameron and the “toxic banker” Lex Greensill. The FT’s Jim Pickard and co have been on the case for weeks. Perhaps the PM or Whitty can clarify at tonight’s presser when exactly journalists are allowed to doorstep Dave until he starts giving some answers on all this.
This doesn't appear to be going away for Cameron. Greensill even had his own No10 business card!!

Tory chiefs used party funds to pay Boris Johnson's legal bills in the row over his affair with Jennifer Arcuri, it emerged last night.

Party co-chairman Ben Elliot is said to have approved payments of more than £10,000 to the Prime Minister's lawyers.

I'm surprised they haven't decided on the Melchett tactic of fining the defence for turning up (which actually happened in - Godwin - Nazi Germany).

Anyone who thinks this despicable Government is in any way anything other than an extreme right authoritarian regime, actively looking to model itself on the likes of Orban and Bolsonaro, is deluding themselves.

Experts named in government’s ‘flawed’ race report ‘shocked’ to see names in evidence contributor list

S.I Martin, an author who specialises in the field of black British history and literature, who is named in the report, told The Independent: “I was never consulted, I don’t know what record they have of contacting me.”

“I just would not have agreed to have been consulted even if I had been asked, but I’ve not been asked. I have been invited to things in the past — not by this administration — I just don’t go, I just refuse. It’s just not something I do.”

How I laughed one year ago at the conspiracy loons for suggesting that the COVID crisis would be used to sneak through reforms and Acts of Parliament that wouldn't be tolerated under normal circumstances in an attempt to mislead, obfuscate and inveigle the population at large...

And yet with each passing day we seem to move closer to Russian levels of eroding democracy and lawful dissent.

From the BMJ on the racism report

https://blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2021/03/31/st ... in-health/
The 30-page section on health in the report claims to undo several decades of irrefutable peer-reviewed research evidence on ethnic disparities, previous governments’ reports, and independent reviews all reaching similar conclusions: ethnic minorities have the worst health outcomes on almost all health parameters. [1] The report’s conclusions, recommendations, and cherry-picked data to support a particular narrative shows why it should have been externally peer-reviewed by independent health experts and scientists. Furthermore, we would expect that a report with such lofty ambitions of presenting a “new race agenda” would have at least one health expert or a biomedical scientist on the commission. It included a space scientist, a retired diplomat, a politics graduate, a TV presenter and an English literature graduate, but no one with an academic background in health inequalities.
This report is a missed opportunity. It lacks the scientific credibility and authority to be used for major policy decisions. Its methodology and language, its lack of scientific expertise, and the well-known opinions of its authors make it more suitable as a political manifesto rather than an authoritative expert report. The new government approach on race, divorced from reality, fails to provide any solutions to ethnic disparities in health. Its attempts to undermine the well-established and evidence-based role of ethnicity on health outcomes will lead to a worsening of systemic inequalities putting more ethnic minority lives at risk.

I sometimes get the feeling that once someone reaches a certain level of power or influence, corruption is seen as less of a crime than a perk. There also seems to be the misconception that it's a "soft crime" except when it happens in other countries, then it shows how "inferior" their societies are.

Doesn't help that ongoing/successful corruption prosecutions seem to have a very low media profile.

He was talked to by the Commission, so it is technically correct that he was ‘consulted’; his issue is that he wasn’t told at the time who they were, and was misled about the purpose of the meeting.

Nah, that not how these consultation processes work. They have terms of reference to make sure it’s clear. If either this didn’t have clear terms of reference, or it ignored them, then it’s not a consultation.
