We could see a big score here (more so than now!), Japan going so hard off the line in defence you have to think their level will drop.
Some really good players out there. Very much looking forward to seeing their true level at the U20 6N next year.

It appears that the U20s are, this time, not fucking it up.
33-0 currently.

Hold your horses there, pretty sure they still have to play the winners of pool B to get promoted…it’s likely USA, who they should absolutely horse but you never know.

Is the USA match available on rugbypass tonight, should I randomly find myself in the Netherlands again?

Yeah - I mean they’re not fucking up the crucial group match again

They’re having a decent go at fucking up the last few minutes. Fortunately they still have a big lead

Definitely a good win, that was supposed to be a really tough game and to be honest it was never in doubt. Japan had their wee purple patch but by then the game was well won and the changes had made it a bit disjointed.

Foot definitely came off the gas as well. Kicking penalties just showed by that stage the Scots were managing the game knowing they've only got a 5 day turnaround to the final. If that had been the last game of the tournament I think they would have scored 60 or 70.

Eventually managed to make VIPbox work. Scotland were doing pretty well there but USA have had a good 10 mins. 21-7 right now

Once again he is scoring tries for fun, but his throwing is a bit ropey.
I'd far rather see Smith and Richardson at hooker in the South American matches, in the hope we might find someone who can hit his man in the line-out. It would be a thrilling addition to the squad.

Someone mocked me on the Glasgow forum, they said Edinburgh's lineout was the second most successful in the league, therefore Edinburgh had something in the trophy cabinet.
My point is, it's not Ashman.

He was at 90 odd % for lineouts in the league. Granted that first lost one looked like his fault but it's not him all the time.
Cherry was a percent or two behind btw.

Scotland looking pretty hot and bothered here… oh hold on, searing break by Rowe and Horne goes over. Despite some possible blocking and the pass looking questionably forward!

Final score 42-7. Workmanlike and routine really. They did look like they were going through the motions. I expect the temperature didn’t help.

Did we learn anything from that , I suspect not - some of those players would be better to be on a beach somewhere.
This should have been a proper development tour for fringe players.

The temp and humidity really showed, and to be fair it showed for both sides.
What would have counted as a good win? More than 7-42 away from home? I thought we were worth a bit more than that, but ultimately if you don't earn it you don't get it on the rugby park.
We didn't learn much more than we knew already, I don't think

Time to send a few of them on holiday. Let them rest for the long season ahead.
USA are not a good side and the Scctland players aren't having to get out of 1st gear. Nothing good can come from trotting Fagerson, Tuipulotolu and a couple others out in the next couple of games.

The issue with that would be that we might risk losing games like last night - which earned Toony a bunch of bad publicity 6 years ago. I don’t disagree though.

Great news for the future of the Scottish women’s team. Could really do with them popping out a couple of boys now in order that Finns genetics can have an impact on the men’s game in the future

Watching, well half watching,22 year old Finn Baxter take on the All Blacks it struck me that Edinburgh need to offer Ollie Blyth-Lafftery a full time contract asap and make a point of readying him for professional rugby.
Whilst they are at it they can bring McVie, Douglas, McConnell and Currie along with the older Blyth-Lafferty too.
Our U20s back three look pretty good, though none are with Edinburgh. Thompson who impressed at 12 is with Watsonians.
edit, I forgot to mention Robbie Deans, who is also in Edinburgh's academy.

Where was Skye actually born? We really don’t want another Fin Smith scenario.

Agreed. Ollie is barely old enough to play U20, but he’s developing like Zander Fagerson at a similar age and we need to make sure we make the most of him.

Summer Tour Update
Ben Afshar, Rob Carmichael and Fin Richardson, all uncapped, have joined up with the Scotland squad as development players and will train as part of the group for the remainder of the tour.
Glen Young will be flying home after injuring a pectoral muscle in training last week. The four others who will leave the squad are stand-off Ross Thompson, hooker Robbie Smith, tighthead prop Elliot Millar Mills and winger Ross McCann.
Looks like Healy will get game time against Chile / Uruguay

Since the summer tour of 2018, Scotland men have scored 10 hat-tricks, averaging one every seven games played. The national side’s previous ten hat-tricks were spread over 92 years, at an average of one every 54 games.

Someone on TOL said 6 would definitely be available - the ones I know of are Ollie Blyth-Lafferty (my new favourite player), Freddy Douglas (a close second) and Tom Currie (tied with Douglas)
McConnell, for example, has played three seasons with the U20s, as will Douglas and O B-L.
edit, I think Ollie Duncan, the Edinburgh number 8 on the pine, is another who is only 18
