Not the smartest move putting a couple of Oasis gigs on in the middle of the Edinburgh festival though. Chaos incoming along with howling about accommodation costs by people who've never been to Edinburgh at that time of year.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
Oh yeah, hadn't realised that. Carnage.
All the money you made will never buy back your soul
I suppose you could argue that an Oasis concert is a welcome addition to the range of cultural events that make up the Festival and the Fringe? However feck knows where everyone will be staying, no doubt the accommodation prices for those dates have already hit new highs!Slick wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 8:57 amOh yeah, hadn't realised that. Whilst I love Oasis music I'm not sure paying a fortune to watch middle aged men try and resuscitate their band from 30 years ago is for me. I will give it a miss.
The SRU will have been given those dates on a take it or leave it basis and taking it was absolutely the right thing to do.
If I don't get a ticket I'll be campaigning to get it moved.Big D wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 10:46 amThe SRU will have been given those dates on a take it or leave it basis and taking it was absolutely the right thing to do.

I don't mean it's a bad SRU decision, absolutely take the money and run. It's a bad decision on the part of Oasis management team / tour organisers. There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth about it in the next week when people get tickets and try to book hotels.Big D wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 10:46 amThe SRU will have been given those dates on a take it or leave it basis and taking it was absolutely the right thing to do.

Could probably make a bloody fortune if I could be arsed Airbnb-ing our flat in Dalry. As it is, probably my brother will rent his out and sleep in mine
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
The Tongan Tank has signed a two year extension with the Warriors.
Scorer of eight tries in 28 appearances - The Benetton Full back is still recovering.
Sione is pure 'Box Office' - almost feels like a new signing

Glasgow are playing Zebre in a pre-season tomorrow (shit choice of opposition, they’ve done this before and I don’t understand why). Of interest is the selection of Jare Oguntibeju. He’s the Scottish/Nigerian/South African 120kg/6’8” lock. He was selected for Scotland u20 a couple of years ago but I don’t think he played due to injury. He came to rugby late so it will be interesting to see if he is involved this year with the full Glasgow squad. He has size, does he have the skills?
If you have seen the squad , you will know why they picked Zebre.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 7:38 pm Glasgow are playing Zebre in a pre-season tomorrow (shit choice of opposition, they’ve done this before and I don’t understand why). The whole squad , apart from a very small number, are fringe players / new signings, along with 10 of the club's senior academy are being given their opportunity . along with a taste of travelling abroad as a Warriors squad and potentially putting their hands up to be considered for the season, no point in putting these guys up against any stronger opposition to be hammered - its not how Franco works. ( and if we have learnt anything about last season, is that Franco knows best ).
We will undoubtedly see a very different Team playing against Connacht a week later at Scotstoun.
Although not televised, Zebre are going to be streaming the game at 20:30 tomorrow

It’s not the strength of the opposition I was commenting on rather the playing a team in our league as a pre-season opponent. I’d much rather see them up against a French or English side (but with the same selection criteria of a largely reserve/youth side). It just seems a bit odd to me.Dogbert wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:11 pmIf you have seen the squad , you will know why they picked Zebre.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 7:38 pm Glasgow are playing Zebre in a pre-season tomorrow (shit choice of opposition, they’ve done this before and I don’t understand why). Familiarity. If you want to get match sharp or to test fringe players you want to be playing opposition that poses new questions. Zebre don’t do that.Simian wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 10:33 amWhy?KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 9:56 amIt’s not the strength of the opposition I was commenting on rather the playing a team in our league as a pre-season opponent. I think that’s debatable (couldn’t you equally say you should play people in your league to practice answering the questions your opposition pose?).KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 11:35 amFamiliarity. Either way… it’s a long time since Glasgow used preseason games for match sharpness. It’s been used to give fringe and new players a run out for as long as I can remember.
With the T14 starting next week is was very unlikely to get a French team to playKingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 9:56 amIt’s not the strength of the opposition I was commenting on rather the playing a team in our league as a pre-season opponent. If anyone is interested:
Friends of mine have tickets to the South Africa game on 10 November but can't go, so they're looking to sell.
2x U18, 2x adult - section E16, row J. Going at face value: GBP90 per adult ticket, GBP45 per U18.
Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Apparently the swimmer who went missing yesterday wild swimming at Wardie Bay is Jennifer Hastings, Scott’s wife. What an awful tragedy for the family.

Awful. After the very sad news form the Hastings family , we have Adam playing his first game on his return to the warriors
A real mix / match team again , but with a bit more experience than the team that got well and truly humped by a decent Zebre team last week
Another young Gordon's boy in the shape of Joe Roberts who previously skippered the U18s is on the 15 man bench
Weather looks to be dry warm and sunny , which will be a novelty for Scotstoun
Glasgow Warriors
15 Josh McKay
14 Jamie Dobie
13 Stafford McDowall (Captain)
12 Tom Jordan
11 Kyle Rowe
10 Adam Hastings
9 Ben Afshar
1 Rory Sutherland
2 Angus Fraser
3 Patrick Schickerling
4 Jare Oguntibeju
5 Richie Gray
6 Euan Ferrie
7 Henco Venter
8 Jack Dempsey
Substitutes
Grant Stewart, Nathan McBeth, Fin Richardson, Max Williamson, Gregor Brown, Sean Kennedy, Duncan Weir, Duncan Munn, Joe Roberts, Jamie Bhatti, Macenzzie Duncan, Jack Mann, Ben Salmon, Logan Trotter, Sebastian Cancelliere

Watched the womens game on Alba last night - very enjoyable. Scots slowly built up the pressure, wore the Welsh down and ran in the tries in 2nd half. A solid performance and could have won by more - 3 times held up over the line and a try disallowed due to forward joining maul in front of the ball. The womens team have vastly improved over last few years.
Yip the Ladies game was good. The change at scrum half helped. Still some basic type errors but they grew into the game. Scrums looked pretty good and well organised.
And less talk back to the ref.

I see Hogg has scored on his Top14 debut. It’s going to be really awkward if he is back to his best.

I guess it depends, he did say his body was fucked before retirement. Perhaps a rest has done him no end of good, but aside from the off-field stuff he has to be playing better than Kinghorn, Smith and Rowe for starters. He's 32 with a LOT of miles on the clock, the Top 14 is an unforgiving league, especially for foreign troops.
I have no idea on the extent of the pain he's caused his young family with his behaviour, so I'm only really commenting on the rugby side of things.
