The clamour for Freddy Douglas will only grow now.
That is rubbish for Boyle, he should have been getting a chance ahead of Watson recently anyway.
To be fair Watson has been dropped, Muncaster has been starting 7.
Which baffles me to be honest. Muncaster is an 8 who should be getting game time at 8 where as Boyle was and Douglas remains a very viable openside option.

I know I often stick to opinions but I can't see me changing my mind about SE as Edinburgh head coach. Was a terrible call to give him a new contract last season.

DvdM apparently staying.

Should probably wait for the official announcement.

Bath? First I've heard of it. We've already got one big fast strong lump on the wing.

I am yet to be convinced on Muncaster as an 8 - not sure he's big enough. He's actually quite good over the ball, not ideal for Edinburgh considering the number of 7s there but he has done well at 7.

I am not defending Everitt, as I have no faith in him either. But he did drop Watson and his replacement Muncaster has gone well.

I am not sure this is the best use of Edinburgh's budget, given what they get out of him.

Ben Muncaster: 1.90 m (6 ft 3 in) / 110 kg (17 st 5 lb) *
Caelan Doris: 1.93 m (6 ft 4 in) / 111 kg (245 lb; 17 st 7 lb)
Matt Fagerson: 1.86 m (6 ft 1 in) / 110 kg (243 lb; 17 st 5 lb)
Jack Dempsey: 1.90 m (6 ft 3 in) / 108 kg (238 lb; 17 st 0 lb)

3cm smaller and 1kg lighter than Caelan Doris, one of the best 8s in the world. Taller and the same weight as Matt Fagerson, same height and heavier than Dempsey.

He has the size, perhaps its his carrying ability that is not quite there (yet, hopefully).

Glasgow v Scratlets

Schickerling Mathews Richardson
Samuel Oguntibeju
Miller Venter Mann

Horne Hastings
Cancilliere Jordan McDowell Rowe
McKay

Bench
Stewart, Dell Talakai
Mackenzie Duncan, Hiddlestone, Fraser Asher, Weir

Unavailable for selection: Gregor Brown (chest), Facundo Cordero (hamstring), Jack Dempsey (shoulder), Euan Ferrie (foot), Nathan McBeth (calf), JP du Preez (knee), Ollie Smith (knee), Kyle Steyn (leg), Sione Vailanu (knee), Murphy Walker (neck), Max Williamson (hand).

That's a pack that have never played together, against a Scarlets team who have actually been pretty good this season , 3 wins including a win over the Bulls , 2 losses ( the loss against Connacht was only by 1 point). and a draw against Benneton in Italy.

Big game for Jaire and Fin - lets see if they can cut it at this level.

3 hookers on the bench , and no real second row cover is a concern

Man to watch - Patrick Schickerling - I've been really impressed with his scrumaging and work rate when he has played - could see him becoming the first pick Tighthead for Glasgow.
Would have been good to have JP du Preez back in the mix , but looks like he is still in the process of returning to fitness - and with Cummings / Williamson , Brown all unavailable , and with Ritchie now in Japan, the second row cupboard for Glasgow is looking pretty bare.

There is a Scot on the Scarlets bench that might fit the bill ........

Loosehead presumably - he's listed at loosehead plus, you know, Zander is world class these days.

Mann deserves a shot - if not for injury he might have already broken through I think.

The backline is very good despite rest protocols - I expect them to let rip as long as there is any kind of forward platform.

Who is Asher (22), not sure I recall seeing his name before?

Indeed Afshar ( fat fingers)

To be clear, and looking at my original post it is not - Zander is the world class Tighthead , but needs someone who can fill his shoes ,when he is being rested / injured - Schickerling ( who is very much a tighthead ) looks potentially to be that man for Glasgow - out of him Richardson & Walker - Patrick looks - at this stage at least to be that man

With you. To be honest I hope it's not him - as far as I know he's not SQ and the last thing we need is another man reducing our tighthead supplies. Fingers crossed Walker can find a sustained period injury free because he looked to have potential to be a solid backup to Zander.

In other news, 'Emerging Scotland' which is Scotland U23 by another name, have a game arranged in December vs an Italy U23 at the Hive. Interesting fixture during Champs cup week. I expect it will be broadly an U20 side with a couple of of more established but fringe players not involved with the pro sides. I expect something like:
Deans, J Blyth-Lafferty, O Blyth-Lafferty / Norrie
McVie; Oguntibeju
McConnell, Douglas, Currie

Simpson, Afshar
Caqusau, Ventisei, Munn, Gwynn
Jack Brown

Not sure if this has been mentioned - God, you lot write some dense prose - but Josh Bayliss has been named in Premiership Rugby's top three stars of the Autumn Nations series

https://www.bathrugby.com/content/bayli ... tumn-stars

How close is he to nailing down a consistent spot for Scotland? He's up against pretty stern competition at both club and country but always looks good - good skills, pacey and ridiculous workrate.

I'm a huge Bayliss fan but he's behind Dempsey, Fagerson, Darge, and Ritchie. And likely Andy Christie when back fit.

I would be but I'm going to a gig that evening.

Strong Embra side to welcome Benetton, as Biffer says this fixture cost us dearly last season, they need to go on to the park in no two minds about making amends.

Freddy Douglas off the pine - good lad.

Having seen the A game, might I be permitted to say that Oguntibeju is a fucking gigantic human being.
Is he any good at rugby?
Mixed so far tonight. A few handling errors but my god he is large and that makes such a big difference. He has presence.

Weird old game this, very much a throwback to when the Pro12 played on international weekends.

Jare is a funny player, looks very raw. Hard for him to get time to develop but he's got something. Better than Samuel tonight by a good bit.

Question, probably for TOTM but maybe for anyone else if they know; when a line up is poorly executed but the possession retained through essentially luck, does that count as a successful line out in the stats? For instance, in the Glasgow game just now the line out jumper fumbled the ball, but he fumbled it backward and the ball was retained. How would that be counted?

As successful, because they kept the ball so it's not "lost"

Haven’t seen very much to suggest he’s going any further to be honest.

This game is hard work to watch

Shane Williams just mentioned him as a MOTM candidate! Ryan Wilson giving him an honourable mention.

I think he'll make it, coming off a serious knee injury and came to rugby late. A year or so seasoning and he'll be fine.

Good win in the end.

My God Scarlets are poor, going for a 30m dg to win. And Peel is mentioned for Wales coach?
