Interesting.....
My laaitjie said over 33 kids applied to play cricket in grade 8 at Milnerton , but of those only about 10 are hardened cricketers....thats going to be a huge concern for this season.....if you have to start with the basics in grade 8 thats too late.....my boy is in his 6th year...my youngest is 3 years in at 8
Its nowhere near what we expected..........especially with some of the kids they poached ( 3 )

We are starting to think we were sold a lie....about how strong the side would be. My son said that when he was in the nets yesterday he hardly got a decent ball to hit. He said the kids were bowling wides ( like really wide ) and full tosses and very irratic. Only about 4 really good bowlers in the whole lot. Anyway he loves the school and all his mates are with him. So not looking to change

Oh that sucks! Get him a Katchet board to practice slip catching while he's crocked. They sell them on Takealot. My neigbbour's son has one.
Dang that was an awesome days cricket. Played against the All Rounders Academy.....the auld enemy.
That's my youngests Under 10s side. They posted 167 for 6 in their innings.
Then bowled them out for 53.....
We smashed Primrose last weekend.
I just feel that if this team stays together throughout the age groups they are going to be very very competitive. The batting from the openers was top notch and the bowling was very disciplined. Four catches and outstanding fielding. These kids have only played 2 games but my boy I feel is very fortunate to be part of it. Can't wait for the tournaments to start.
My eldest attended his first cricket training session today. We took the boot off yesterday. He is not allowed to do any exercise yet to minimize impact on the foot. Maybe next week, midweek we will allow him into the nets. If we are happy there's no pain. He is hating not being able to play. All his mates are playing and he can only go watch. We will ease him into the second team. The coach is in contact and wanted him at practice today. Apparently the second team is struggling and the coach is fed up. But we won't risk his foot short term to create problems long term

Probe into Milnerton High incident underway
By Bulelwa Payi Time of article published 18h ago
Cape Town - An investigation into an alleged racist incident at Milnerton High School has opened old wounds about other incidents that had not been properly dealt with.
Former pupils and parents say the school has a history of allegations of racism, insensitivity to gender-based violence and inappropriate behaviour.
Last weekend Weekend Argus reported on parents’ concerns about an incident where the deputy principal and the head of the school’s disciplinary committee allegedly made a black pupil kneel before and bow repeatedly to a white pupil after the two fought.
A source said the incident “shocked and angered” pupils who held an anti-racism protest on the sports field where they took the knee.
The principal, Paul Besener, denied that the incident was racist as the teacher involved was also black and of Indian descent.
The Western Cape Department of Education said officials visited the school this week to interview staff and pupils.
The department’s spokesperson, Millicent Merton, said: “There has been a number of discussions between the parties and apologies have been made. The parents of the two learners have also been informed of the processes that have been followed.”
She said a report was being finalised. The teacher involved had not been suspended, pending the investigation.
The matter sparked debate and opened old wounds for former parents and pupils who spoke about their experiences at the school, with some taking to social media platforms.
One parent alleged that she had been told by her child that racist references were made to identify pupils.
“Apparently our children were referred to as ‘hey, you, black girl, black boy or Chinese boy’. When the teacher was asked by a learner if he did not find this odd, he merely told them to embrace their race,” the parent said.
She said although she welcomed a letter sent to parents this week, she was disturbed by media reports that indicated that the school authorities seemed to “jump to a conclusion” about the incident even though an investigation was still underway.
“If you want to allow a fair hearing and justice, one cannot jump into defence by dismissing the matter. I found that disturbing,” said the parent.
Another parent said her son would only be admitted to the school if he shaved his dreadlocks.
“I explained that he kept his dreadlocks tied. This is what he did at his previous school. But I was told that if the school were to allow him to do that, then it would have to allow white boys to tie their hair in a ponytail or wear skirts. I was also told if I did not like the rules I could take my son to a black school.
“I lodged complaints with the department and the Human Rights Commission (HRC) but nothing came of it,” the parent said.
On social media, former pupils shared experiences of being “touched in an inappropriate manner” and concerns of reported incidents not being dealt with.
One former pupil wrote on Instagram: “I reported to the school a gender-based violence case which took place off the school grounds. The learner continued to harass me at school. But I was told that there was nothing the school could do. It could not offer support because the learner involved was related to a member of the school governing body.”
She also claimed that she was threatened with legal action should she talk about the incident.
“There was a tendency of leaving dirty laundry in its basket,” the former pupil said.
Besener declined to comment, saying he had been instructed by the department not to speak.
The provincial department said the new allegations should be referred to the school.
Calls have been made for an independent investigation.
A parent said: “There has to be accountability. Institutions, in general, cannot be allowed to carry out racist agendas with impunity. Schools must be equipped to deal with diversity and transformation issues and create safe spaces for learners.”
The Human Rights Commission said it was looking into the matter.
Straight back down to earth. After some impressive outings against local teams Milnerton got a hiding against Wynberg at all levels and age groups.
My eldest walked in takkies the whole of last week and the swelling is now down. On Saturday he bowled at the under 10s to get their eye in before batting. He was fine after and no pain. He attended practice on Monday in the nets for Milnerton school and again no pain. He has his first match of the season tomorrow against Elkanah playing in the B side. He has a lot of his mates from the old club in the side so he should be OK. Its also going to played on his old club field....and he knows that pitch well after 4 years there. He is still a bit anxious about getting a ball on his foot as that's the foot he steps forward with. He needs to work through that. His bowling is fine. Still as accurate as ever and no pain when he makes that last impact with his foot before he makes the delivery. On Friday he has a training session at school and later at the Milnerton club. Not sure about who the weekend matches for him are yet. The youngest has volunteered for the under 9s on Friday afternoon when the eldest is at practice. He is still 8 and they are short of players. Should only be 20 overs a side, si starting 3 should be done 6, sametime the eldest finishes at the club training...the youngest also has a game on Saturday for the under 10s. Saturday should be a game for the eldest too for the school and he will also play on Sunday for Milnerton club. In other words our weekend is pretty much vokked. Not just vokked. Mom and dad are going to be split up all over the show

I run on the Wynberg fields every day. I live about 500m from the school. They have an amazing cricket program. Every morning there are net sessions sometimes from 5:30 pm. 3 reps at u16 and 3 reps at u19 in the WP side.Sards wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:11 pm Straight back down to earth. Wynberg poached our best player .......
My eldest played his first game of the season on Wednesday against Elkanah. Elkanah were poor.
He got 2 wickets so he was super happy as he was lacking confidence after such a long layoff. Both bowled. He was given 4 overs which was more than I thought considering a 20 over match. He was completely fine afterwards.......chuffed more than anything else. He still hasn't batted in a match. The youngest's team left us parents a nervous wreck today. Against Edgemead. Edgemead had some really good bowling. Restricted us to 110 in 25. About 15 too light. My youngest had an 8th wicket cameo where he got a 6 and a 4 off their best bowler and managed 16 in his 3 overs of which he didn't face much ball. I always suspected he preferred the ball coming onto him quicker. He is already through the shot when the ball arrives with the slower bowler. Trust me it's not fun doing throw down to him before he plays. You have to go fetch the ball all the time. Then Edgemead went into bat and were cruising because we bowled our weakest bowlers first. Then with 4 overs and 3 wickets left for Edgemead the boys closed the innings with Edgemead 2 runs short. Damn it was close. They are now on a 4 match winning streak.
Edgemead are building fantastic club structures and getting a good reputation so this was an important win for the boys.

No doubt. And trust me there is a lot of talent out there so that's a great achievement. Yesterday I saw a young talent in action in the under 10s. The team was realing . Opposition was cruising to the total. He steps in and takes 4 wickets in 2 overs. Breaking the backbone of the opposition team and drying up the runs. It was magnificent to watch. He has this unique run up where his arms are waving in circles before he releases the ball.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 7:34 amI run on the Wynberg fields every day. Offered him a bursary. It's a long trek every day for the parents. But that's what you do if you invest in your children

Of course we are eternally grateful to the poaching cnuts. He deserves it. 50 almost every game and very economical medium pace bowler getting his wickets and the man to bring on to dry up the runs or break a partnership. Great alrounder who doesn't mind opening the innings.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Sun Feb 27, 2022 8:41 amIt's scouting. That kid is very lucky. And of course the under 14 season just hasn't kicked off. No practice last Friday. No game today. School cricket is very alive with matches on Sundays if teams are available. Sometimes 3 matches a week. We have only seen the 1 match obviously from Milnerton b.

Gims group

Milnerton B lost to Edgemead A on Wed. Very close but a loss is a loss. My boy got tonked in his first over at first change when Edgemeads fantastic opening batsman charged him for a 4 and a 6. Second over after a chat with his mates they set a fielder and my son changed his pace when the kid charged and it went straight to the fielder. These kids can be really nasty with what they said to my son when he got that wicket. Edgemeads kids no class. He had his first bat in the middle since last year . Came in at 8. Took his first 2 balls gingerly and saw his next ball a bit wide so edged it to the boundary for a 4 , felt emboldened so smashed the next ball and got caught on the boundary. Big smile when he came off. So huge relief. The youngest vommited last night a few times and couldn't even lift his bat when he came downstairs in his White's this morning so we begged off his match today against Durbanville. Here's hoping the boys go 5 out of 5 to keep their winning streak.

Boland vs Kwaggas, Hudson Park vs Dale now live
What a game for Sunningdale under 10s yesterday. Unbeaten through the season. Having played all of the top clubs in What I thought was a nightmare fixtures list when I first saw it. Then with season ended they get invited to a game against Tygerberg.
The boys were full of confidence when Tygerberg arrived. It looked like a bit of a mixed team with some boys looking much older and some much younger. Only 2 parents in attendance. And the kids going through a communal kit bag to find a suitable pair of pads and bat etc.
The toss was done and when the kids from Tygerberg elected to bat and the Tygerberg kids went crazy for joy I started worrying. Either they have a strong bowling attack and the kids don't get a chance to bat chasing small targets or they are a really good batting side. Turns out that they are also Unbeaten for the season.
Credit to Sunningdale. Tygerbergs batting was really good with some fine shots from such youngsters. We limited them to 90 . With some outstanding fielding and bowling. The Tygerberg kids were very vocal the Start of the innings and quite Moody at the end with a lot of dissapointed kids coming off angry with themselves. 3 decisions were reviewed by the batting side and 2 overturned. Firstly I have never seen decisions reviewed before at this level and those that were overturned were based on lack of anyone seeing anything. In other words no replay. The kid that got bowled middle stump by my youngster tried to argue that the ball had bounced twice when he was dismissed for an outstanding Yorker. It went on for about 5 minutes. Didn't matter. In both cases the kid that overturned the decision fell very soon after with out a meaningful contribution.
Sunningdale has played themselves into a strong position at the break.
And then the momentum changed. Tygerberg limited their bowlers to only the strong bowlers. Bowling them out 4 overs each.
Generally we give the kids 2 overs each and everyone gets a turn. Last 3 overs go to those that did well. This is first year hardball ( although the kids start much younger now ). So its still too soon to determine the kids strength . I have seen kids that are hopeless when they start turn into outstanding bowlers. So we were quite surprised by this. It did the job. Although also credit to the fielding by Tygerberg. The coach had promised them to take them to the beach if they won. So they were demons. There was a time in the match when we had a chance. The Sunningdale manager decided to rather let all the kids have a go and retired our batsmen who were coping with the bowling. We ended 15 odd short in the end with too many maiden overs. And too many runs left on the park because the kids were too afraid to run because of the outstanding fielding.
