My housemate in Sydney back in the 80s introduced me to English duo, Everything But The Girl. Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt... a couple with three kids now, they hadn't done anything under the EBTG label for 24 years.

They're back... and this clip is a stunning backdrop for a typically cool track with a contemporary touch. Filmed in one take...

Still fondly remember his hilarious set at Sweetwaters, even after all these years.

Ok, it's not Friday, but this turned 40 years old the other day and it's still a fucking beast of a thing.

Great shout, Guy. Saw them and John Cooper Clarke in Wellington in the early '80s.

Love Will Tear Us Apart is one of the best songs ever put down in a recording studio. I loved it like a well fitting pair of socks that stay up all day before I knew the back story about Ian Curtis. The radio station 2JJJ (Triple J) in Australia, a nationwide network that champions independent music runs an annual poll to determine the best new music for the year. Back in the early 90s when the station was a lot more uncompromising in its selection and production, the poll was open to all music, not just that year's releases. LWTUA was a clear winner each time so they changed formats and limited it to the annual releases.

I wasn't a great fan of Joy Division at the time, too dark feeling for me at that age. I came to their stuff through New Order... who have carved out their own place in music history, Just a fantastic heritage for all the members of both bands to have created.

Barry Jenkin was a huge Joy Division fan, and frequently promoted them on Radio Hauraki and Radio With Pictures. Consequently, they developed a large following in NZ and their albums and singles charted quite well here iirc (mists of time and all that).

Yeah... like you say, mists of time and all that but for all the shortcomings you remember of the time, we did have some good things. Sunday night was where it was at.
