Speaking to Sky News, Environment Secretary George Eustice said BLM is "different to what most of us believe in".

A minister has described Black Lives Matter as a "political movement" as he faced questions about fans who booed footballers taking a knee to support the issue.
The only thing surprising is that he didn't go down the Trumpian route of ‘very fine people on both sides’ argument.

It's funny Millwall the club known as having the most racist fans were the ones to boo and people defend it as a righteous crusade of theirs. It's just not.

The positive is that because of them booing at the weekend the other crowds cheered the gesture. One for the Millwall fans representing all fans narrative some in the media tried to push.

One of the worst things about trump is that he has dropped the bar so low that even utter cretins can honestly say that ‘at least I’m not as bad as trump’

Fuck sake. Unconscious bias training is about awareness raising. It's about making sure people know that you're not calling them a racist, but there are still institutional things in place and habits we have that end up having a discriminatory effect. It helps to explain the other actions you're taking to reduce bias. Take it away and you go back to a state where people see new initiatives introduced and think they're nonsense, and that they're being discriminated against. And by doing that you increase divisions and othering.

Ohhhh, now I see why the Tories are doing this. Right.

The studies are pretty clear - it doesn’t work.

And just because the training says, ‘we’re not saying you’re racist/sexist/ageist etc’, doesn’t take away from the fact that the entire premise of the training is that they are literally saying you’re a racist, sexist, ageist etc.

It’s disingenuous.

It starts with the premise that everyone is unconsciously bias, we are humans of course we are, then it tries to standardise us all, it is a crazy crazy concept.

So you go to unconscious bias training, at which point you're taught to recognise your bias you weren't aware of (isn't that for the most part ignorance?), so it's no longer unconscious. Do you then graduate to conscious bias training?

Cummings – whose trip to Durham during the height of the first national Covid-19 lockdown prompted an outcry – was paid between £95,000-£99,999 in 2019 but a new report reveals his pay packet was bumped up to £140,000-£144,999 this year.
I wonder what his pay-off is?

Cummings was an expensive appointment all round. Bet we haven't heard the half of it yet!
Documents released on Tuesday show that the prime minister overruled the advice of the civil service’s chief executive, John Manzoni, in March that the government should seek a settlement with Sonia Khan, a former adviser to the then chancellor, Sajid Javid.
Johnson refused to listen to the advice, which meant that the case continued until November, driving up legal costs. Khan was eventually paid between £50,000 and £100,000 in November, days after Cummings announced he would be standing down from Downing Street at the end of this year. Legal sources estimate that the total costs including Khan’s payoff could be nearly £200,000.

Entitled twat's Dad being an entitled twat again
Boris Johnson’s father has been spotted getting on a London Tube train without wearing a face mask - for the fourth time.
Footage obtained by The Independent shows Stanley Johnson onboard a Tube train without a mask as it pulled out of Victoria station on Monday afternoon, and only appeared to put his mask on after he realised he was being filmed.
It comes as London prepares to enter tier 3 restrictions from Wednesday, as the number of coronavirus cases have risen exponentially in recent weeks.

To be fair to them, when they give the training, they explain it’s intended to get rid of the small instances of prejudice that can build up to institutional racism etc.

An example of the sort of thing they’re looking for is that there is a decent body of data that suggests candidates with foreign sounding names are less likely to get an interview than an Anglo Saxon name, even if the cv is comparable.

The training suggests that is may be due to unconscious bias and so it may be wise to redact names in cvs before short listing.

Again though surely that just delays the prejudice to interview.

And I’m thinking it may be due to good old fashioned conscious bias in that instance.

The long and short of it is that the whole concept is broadly based on ‘social science’, which is bullshit at the best of times, and so good riddance.

Let’s find a better way, preferably by dealing with conscious racism etc.

FFS - this is really serious and requires a major reset of our society and how we look after each other. It however doesn't surprise me with this Gov and their behaviour over the last few years. If anyone thinks Brexit is all about sovereignty and sunny uplands then think again. For the disaster capitalists, such as JRM, and their ilk this is a price they reckon is worth paying if it means they increase their personal wealth.

Hmmmmmm - feels very politically charged that announcement.

£25k of aid?

That’s nothing but a PR stunt number.

Anyone wanting that sort of cash can go to any sort of charity (including housing associations) and they’d have a decent chance with a decent bid of getting that amount.

On the wider point of food for kids though - I do think it’s one of those rare occasions where a dedicated bit of tax would be a good option e.g. a penny on all happy meals going direct to a fund. Same on chocolate and some of the sugar tax etc.

The larger corporations need to be convinced to help us remove food poor homes - as it is ridiculous that it still exists.

it will all come from the consumer ultimately, but the average guy on the street won’t begrudge a dedicated bit of tax fir that purpose (well, I wouldn’t).

Activist judges in the Court of Appeal give the Government and the Attorney General in particular a shoeing over the stunt appeal against the length of sentence passed on PC Andrew Harper's killers. No further leave to appeal.

More populist shite from the people who got their appointment on the basis of loyalty to Brexit rather than any level of competence.

It's a win win PR stunt. Has the support of the Tabloids and furthers their culture war aims when the courts don't accept the lack of legal backing. And then when they've whipped people up about how lawyers are SJWs they can change this and further laws more easily.

Electric or hydrogen planes. Sorted.

As mentioned on the climate change thread; changing behaviour ain’t likely to be the solution to getting to net zero etc. New tech will.

We aren’t going to stop flying, so just make some non-fossil fuel planes.

The New York Times analyzed a large segment of it, the roughly 1,200 central government contracts that have been made public, together worth nearly $22 billion. Of that, about $11 billion went to companies either run by friends and associates of politicians in the Conservative Party, or with no prior experience or a history of controversy.

UNICEF needing to rescue UK

https://news.sky.com/story/amp/jacob-re ... d-12165584

“For the first time ever, UNICEF, the UN agency responsible for providing humanitarian aid to children, is having to feed working-class kids in the UK," she said.

"But while children go hungry, a wealthy few enjoy obscene riches.

From Tory donors handed billions in dodgy contracts, to people like the Leader of the House - who is reportedly in line to receive an £800,000 dividend payout this year."

And she went on to ask: "So will you give government time to discuss the need to make him and his super-rich chums pay their fair share so that we can end the grotesque inequality that scars our society?"
