I’ve got a new theory on why Edinburgh are often lacking despite having all these internationals.

Watching tonight, at least the first half, you could really see the Glasgow players enjoying being in Scotstoun and the real camaraderie of the players.

Playing for Scotland at Murrayfield must be a hugely emotional occasion for the players and I wonder if coming back on a Monday morning to the same empty stadium and having that as your base (I know they often train elsewhere) just makes it more difficult to switch emotions to your club and makes it difficult to foster that emotional connection that returning to a club is for most international players.

They have been based elsewhere too such as at Watsons - it has made little difference

We saw a glimpse of what might have been with Mike Blair, I really think we need the right guy at the helm. Glasgow got lucky with Lineen and then Townsend - both could have easily have been based at Edinburgh, but the tone was set there, the culture and winning attitude, and for the most part it has carried on.

Edinburgh had Bradley and Solomons, though Andy whatshisface was getting somewhere before he moved up to coach Scotland.

Yep - it must have done it 15 times or more. Really frustrating. We were also watching on a laptop.

That's not true actually. Watched a few but only one that was streaming only. Never had an issue on my phone and the streaming only was on the TV through the app.

Strange thing was I use that laptop to watch games most weeks and haven’t had the issue before. Only difference was I was using the WiFi at the rugby club rather than at home. Cant see how that makes any difference though.

I just think that there have been enough glimpses of the good stuff, see them tearing Benetton apart in the first half and then looking as if they were thinking about what pub they were going to after the game. The real grit shown against Glasgow v the no-show at Hampden. The inability to put Leinster away in the first game when they really should have, same against Ospreys. It's the maddening inconsistency that is the problem. We've had players come in like Skinner from Exeter where the culture was a winning one, same with Healy from Munster. Vellacott came from Glaws who are not a soft touch.

The inability to win away is a mental issue, imo. I'm really not sure Murrayfield plays a part in that - they are winning at home after all. There was some speculation that the SRU were too close in the past, some of the high heid yins would watch training and mingle with the players. I hope they've been told to get tae fuck long ago.

Everitt is seemingly a very nice bloke, but if he can't get the mindset of the players right then he's not doing his job - the players are all doing their training and reaching their target numbers there, it's not about working hard, they do that. It's those top two or three inches - Glasgow play with smiles on their faces, most of the Edinburgh team look like they huff and puff their way through a game very seriously, the only ones who don't are Watson, Vellacott and Price.

Their first try was apparently very dodgy, but Edinburgh are terrible.

A bit surprised and pleased to see Hutchison playing Fly Half for Northampton in their game. Making a good fist of it as well.

I saw a really weird shitfight on Instagram earlier in the week with someone adamant that Hutchinson was the second best 10 for Scotland and someone shouting back saying he doesn’t play there

Superb. Probably the most influential figure on the park until he was subbed off about 65 minutes following a knock. He made the try he scored. Picked up the ball in midfield and threw a 25 yards pass to the winger, who passed to Ramos who threw a beautiful no look, behind the back pass as Blair wrapped around him to score in the corner. I had to turn the Glasgow game off after Sione’s try when it looked like he got a knock as well but from what I see he carried on? Getting a bit nervous for the 6N already.

Kinghorn win a knock, Van Der Merwe hobbling after his try, Simone hobbling, that would be three big smacks in the gut.

Glasgow will be pretty heavy favourites for the Quins game, tbh.

I agree in terms of progression in the competition. But for a side that wasn't a million miles from full go v a ProD2 level team it should not paper over the sizeable cracks imo

IIRC he played a but there are national age grade.

Relevant only in terms of he's Scottish and nothing else, it seems Hogg is making a decent fist of playing 10 for his club too.

Thanks for that. Have to agree with Big D, a wins a win and aw that but they only showed flashes of determination and intensity during the match. Isn't going to be good enough in the R16

I think if they had lost that one Everitt would have been toast.

As it stands they should now be able to get to the URC playoffs and Challenge Cup semi-finals based almost entirely on home form.

If they keep up their home record, they probably only need to win in Parma and then one from three away games against Scarlets or Benetton or Connacht for progression in the URC.

If he manages European semi and URC quarter then he's most likely in with the bricks for 2 or 3 more seasons.

TOTM posting on twatter that Quins loss tonight guaranteed Glasgow a home tie in the last 16 which is good news. Go out and beat Quins themselves next week and it should be a pretty favourable draw, insomuch as any game in the last 16 is favourable.

I suspect (hope) that we go fully loaded against Quins, depending on who maybe carrying knocks - may even see Williamson & Dempsey back

The next two URC games are against Connacht , at Scotstoun , and the Dragons at Rodney parade , I can see Franco using these two games to rotate players out ( Fagersons / Sione / Shuggie etc )

Glasgow have a number of long term injured players due back - Ollie Smith is already off the injury list , and Vialanu & Du Preez should be fit very soon, along with McDowall who will have served his suspension
