Well Liz Truss agrees  and

Also now: "BREED FOR BRITAIN!"

The first thing the next Tory leader should do is kick her out the party and leave her to embarrass herself at far right conferences instead.

This Guardian Article neatly sums up the situation the Tories have gotten themselves into.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... ry-members
The academic Tim Bale published research today on the differences between Tory members and the general public, picking out unsurprising but major divergence in how likely they were to agree with statements such as “Leaders need to be able to dominate people and show a bit of aggression now and then” (public: 43% disagree v 28% agree; members: 29% disagree v 47% agree) and “It’s important for leaders to be able to manipulate situations to get their way” (public: 48% disagree v 21% agree; members: 28% disagree v 43% agree).
To get elected Leader you have to become loathsome to the rest of the Electorate, brilliant !

I remain fascinated by the overtly pro Israel positions taken by mainstream politicians. Goes so far beyond what is required and does not really have an electoral audience
From Labour politicians it's mostly about wanting to avoid any media criticism/smears.

Something different is going on with some politicians on the right, for them it's a dog whistle. Some view Israel as white/Western/just like them and Palestine as brown/Muslim/foreign. This strange conflation of someone's views on Israel/Palestine and immigration into the UK that both Badenoch and Jenrick have gone with, starts making a lot more sense from that point of view. It's not really about Israel at all. Something very similar is happening with the online phenomena of Rhodesia nostalgia, from people who aren't from Zim/have no connection to the place/never been there/probably never even met anyone from there, but these clueless people who don't know what they're talking about are still trying to score some sort of point over a generation later (going on the youtube view counts there's an audience in the millions for it too).

Oh that. I suspect it's a result of Clarkson and Co's final The Grand Tour show in Zimbabwe that's brought some people out of the woodwork about the old Rhodesia.

It'll die out by the weekend.

What a shock, even if you ignore that he publicly demonstrated himself to be a weapons grade bellend on numerous occasions while in office, he has more than a few public comments about education that'd likely stymie any interest a school might have in him.
He attacked the joint NEU general secretaries Kevin Courtney and Mary Bousted when speaking to TalkTV on Monday, hours before union members announce the results of their strike ballots.

He dubbed the NEU the “Not Education Union” before getting personal.

Gullis said: ″Commie Courtney and Bolshevik Bousted have been working hard, desperately getting their strike that they’ve been so keen for because they’re Labour Party members, they’re Labour Party agitators who want to make sure they bring the Conservative government, and get an early general election.”
Attacking the biggest education union's leadership probably isn't helping his cause and just before the election he was saying he he didn't think he had the patience to return to teaching.

There's a possibility he might fit in ideologically at certain private schools, but it's also likely that the students would run rings around him if they even had any vacancies (which, would have been unlikely by the time he left office).

Been part of the online right discourse for years now complete with memes. What it's about is projecting their own politics onto somewhere else, they get it all wrong but don't care, it's about saying things they cannot say about their own country because the people they're talking to and want to listen will immediately know its bullshit. It's about their own racism, not the place they're talking about. Something similar is starting to happen on the right with Israel, which is why both Jenrick and Badenoch have purposely conflated immigration with Israel in a quite crazy way, it's a dog whistle.

No clue what Clarkson is up to. But he has a long history of leaning into fringe right wing views/memes/tropes and getting in trouble for racism. It is part of the character he plays and the audience he targets. He also has a history of years later becoming the moronic character he plays, didn't he come out as a Brexiter this year after years of saying "everyone thinks I'm a Brexiter but I'm not that stupid". We've seen the same troll pipeline in this community "say stupid shit as a troll to get a reaction = say it long enough start believing it = become a moron".

Who are we picking for Tory leader?

Reckon I'm going to go with Badenoch, another Truss level character. In politics someone can be a cunt in many different ways: corrupt, nasty, lying. What someone cannot be is incompetent, that'll finish them very quickly. Badenoch says a lot of crazy stuff on a regular basis, seems to have no depth just a lot of shallow soundbites. Have to wonder how she got so high up the ladder at a young age. Looks like another possible Tory diversity hire (Truss and Braverman definitely examples of that). She's had the full works done on her, even the Ashcroft biography. Truss was the same, the right thought she was fucking brilliant. It seems there's a species of Tory who is deeply impressed by anyone who is a woman and/or not white, that can breathe wear a blue rosette and put a sentence together all at the same time.

Probably best not getting into trying to win Reform voters whilst having a leader who isn't white, but they have tried and failed once already. My personal interactions with the gammons I know, is that Badenoch really really annoys and angers them like no one else, "arrogant bitch" is a theme.

Behold the madness of Badenoch, in just the last few days ...
She always wins fights she gets into (she fought and lost a leadership contest last time).

FIGHT THE BLOB!!! IMPRISON 5%-10% THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!! UNIONS!!!

Maternity pay is excessive (just quit your job like she did for the benefit of her employer).

On the subject of the working class ...

Kemi Badenoch, "Working classes are the people who have to work for a living, otherwise they will be in trouble". So that's pretty much everyone with a job.

She became working class via briefly working at McDonalds "flipping burgers" (no one flips burgers at McDonalds, they've optimised that out of their process).

Speaking at the Spectator fringe, Kemi Badenoch says: “HR is running the economy right now. I want that to change.”
Badenoch: “If people think the government can pronounce on something, it changes their attitude.” She cites the oasis tickets controversy and says Labour getting involved in it was like government “as a concierge service.”
Badenoch: “Businesses would do lot more for their staff if they didn't have the burdens. Asking govt to mandate things for business is just adding another burden. We need to take the burden off business then they will pay their staff more. They will give better maternity rights.”

On the subject of immigrants ...

Muslim immigrants hate Israel, especially those from Northern Nigeria, but not all Muslims.

Do not employ foreign carers, when there's an aging population and not enough carers:

Kemi Badenoch, "I never have gaffes.. Or apologising for something.. That's not what I meant.. I never have to clarify.. Because I think very careful about what I say"

Badenoch - We need to take the burden off business then they will pay their staff more. They will give better maternity rights.
No they won't. And she knows they won't. A few businesses might if they have the good fortune to be run by an actual human being, but such businesses are pretty unusual and generally fairly modest in scale. Mostly, business as a whole has had to be dragged kicking and screaming to do anything that's beneficial for the employee. Regulations are won through the blood, sweat and tears of obviously egregious worker exploitation.

Fuck her and whichever Tufton Strett cunt is handing out her talking points.

Ultimately, she's nasty and ambitious enough to woo the Tory party membership. I hope that will be insufficient to restore the Tories as an electoral force.

It's the Tory libertarian thing "collapse the state, imprison the civil servants, let businesses do as they please unregulated, then they will pay their staff a minimum wage and give them maternity leave ... the government has the power to do this but should not". They haven't been a conservative party for awhile, they've been a utopian party since at least Brexit (could argue Thatcher). This notion that if there is no state (the EU, the ECHR, the civil service) and is no plan, then magically there's sunlit uplands and everything people wanted from the state magically happens anyway but better, is a utopian delusion.

In reality shit gets pumped into every river and onto every beach.

Included that one because it gets to the heart of the madness. You know any Tory coming out with that stuff is a full on loon.

Ditto for those two posts.

One could argue that four hundred years ago wars were fought in England to move power from an inherited source to an elected one, then on up through abolition, against which arguments were put forward that ending slavery would make Britain uncompetitive, from Tolpuddle to the birth of the Trade Union movement, to the Quakers calling for improved living conditions across Britain, to the setting up of the NHS, improvements in the workplace that lessened the chances of being killed there etc etc.

If any of that was happening now the loons in the Tory party would oppose it, calling it "Woke"

Definitely my pick. Some Tories are claiming she's "the next Mrs.T", they're correct, she is the next Truss who was also called the next Thatcher.

Astonishing that they've had their worst ever election, but are fully capable of inflicting more massive damage on themselves.

Fuck me. I'm going to have to watch this speech. Government exists to serve the market, apparently. Incredible. Why bother getting into politics at all if business is what really changes the world? Why has she herself not started a business, and instead bangs on about "flipping burgers at McDonalds"? She is Turbo Truss.
Badenoch now. I can't take much more of this. No-one should have to go through this. God knows what she's babbling about.

Badenoch reminds me quite a bit of Jeremy Corbyn. People seem to get very excited about her. But then you see her do a speech and you're like: Really? Is that it?

Needless to say, Badenoch is talking about how brave she is when she is attacked on Twitter.

"If you call communism environmentalism you can close down businesses, block the roads and you can stop people going to work." I've no idea what she is talking about and I don't believe she does either.

She's now suggesting conservative students are being marked down by their lecturers as punishment for their political views. There's that thin layer of conspiratorial sludge in her rhetoric. It's not just right-wing, it's deeply paranoid.

Amazing how rarely the Lib Dems are mentioned. She just said they won't help. Cleverly said they're wet. Lots of Tory seats were lost to the Lib Dems in the centre. Not a fucking word about it in that hall.

She's talking about her "comprehensive plan" to reboot the British state. This sounds like a Trussite agenda: It seems that it's about defenstrating the institutions which restrain the executive. She mentions the ECHR, judicial review, the Treasury, the Bank of England, devolution, the civil service. Obviously that's sold as giving power back to the people. In reality it is about giving power to the government.

"Government needs to be the servant of the market." What an extraordinary thing to say.

The IEA, Tufton Street, dark money, Brexit, weird conspiracy stuff. It's the same CV as the people who backed Truss.

This all needs to be banished for the Tories to become a serious party. But they don't understand that yet, fucking very clearly they don't understand that, so they deserve more of it.

Well some would, quite a number of businesses would actually. But it's blood tricky if you're competing against people/businesses who look to underpay because instantly you're under huge pressure on your price points, so a lot of what regulation is about is protecting those businesses being run as you'd want them to be run (or more like you'd want them to be run)

On a related note, Badenoch is due to give evidence to the Horizon enquiry on 6th November.

She was Secretary of State for the Department of Business and Trade for a year or so during the time that compensation should have been looked at - when she was very busy instructing then PO Chair Staunton to drag his feet until after the election and then firing him anyway via sky news.

Seeing as she is never wrong, never apologises and never makes a mistake, I'll be interested to hear what the KCs make of her.

Badenoch: The government needs to be the servant of the market

The Market: we want to employ who ever we want. From abroad

Badenoch : No, not like that…

The Market: we’re going to rejoin the single market

Badenoch : wait, that’s not what I meant

The Market: We’re going to build factories in the green belt

Badenoch: Nigel, help!

Maternity regulations, indeed all employment standards, set the minimum standard and 'good' employers will always compete with better T&Cs beyond the minimum in order to get and retain the best staff, male and female. However many employers will not offer anything else except the minimum and given the chance would offer less/nothing if they could. Employment legislation is a measure of our society and how we want to treat people in work, hard fought for by TUs, individuals, Governments and many others over the years. Before that the market determined employment terms and conditions and we all know how well that went!

There is a solid argument that having better maternity and paternity rights is good for the economy as it keeps skilled and valuable employees in employment during maternity period and throughout their working lives. Poor maternity/paternity rights and high cost of childcare etc results in many women just leaving the labour pool and never coming back. The UK is currently struggling for skilled and experienced works and is one of the reasons our growth is so poor.

Dear oh dear. Laura K caught red handed, she needs to be fired yesterday.
She's an absolute f'in joke. 'Accidentally' emailed briefing notes before an interview. How many more Boris Johnsons does she know?

What am I missing? According to that article she made a mistake that would have undermined the integrity of the interview so pulled out. If she'd kept quiet and done it anyway then that would have been a story.

In the land of conspiracy theories maybe.

Even if you do not rate her as an interviewer suggesting she is actually corrupt is a different kettle of fish.

I've wondered a few times why she's badged a big tory fan girl. Is it just the usual BBC Is biased to the left, if you're right and vice versa thing?

Is she one of Boris' many conquests? Can't understand how he's a top shagger but there you go.
