Nice little segment from Darcy Graham and his uncle Scott about roots and the importance of connections, hosted by Rory Lawson who of course has his own links with the town
Enjoyed that, it's a really great part of Scottish rugby that players have such a strong connection to their homes and are pretty accessible to the rest of the rugby playing community, I hope that doesn't get lost
Interesting that he didn't include playing for Edinburgh as something he wanted to do. Playing for your home club and Scotland is the ambition for most kids it seems and maybe thats part of the issue.

That doesn't surprise me for a Borders lad, but I would imagine it might be different for folk from the city. There are definitely players in the Edinburgh squad who have grown up supporting the team and attending matches.

I think times change, fifteen years ago a 12 year old Darcy Graham probably did want to play for Hawick and Scotland, Hawick is unique in its number of international players, 61 male Scotland internationals, 13 B&I Lions, 6 women internationals.
Today's Darcys will see Glasgow being successful, the ability to watch them on tv cannot be overstated. I'd like to think Edinburgh will improve at some point and be equally attractive to young players. That's the equivalent of wanting to play for the top football teams.
I was speaking to the mother of a guy from my club who is in the academy with Edinburgh, he feels overawed at times when he trains with the likes of Darcy and Duhan. We have a player at our club who is absolutely outstanding at our level, he was telling me on Saturday that this guy in Edinburgh's academy is by far the best player he's ever played with or against - I'm trying to make the point of the difference in standard here.
Our guy has been approached to play at a higher level several times but he has turned it down, to him the important thing is to play with your mates, the guys you grow up with. Our team have mostly known each other since they were beginning to walk. We have others who have left for clubs in the premiership too, but for the most part this is a group of young men who are in it for each other. Darcy mentions this point in the video, he says he wants to come back and play with his mates. I think that is an incredibly important point of view. We have another guy in the pack who could easily play up at premiership level, but at the moment, fingers crossed, he is also enjoying the camaraderie.

Thoughts on going from 6/2 to a 5/3 split?
Great to see Darcy Graham back. He will want to score tries for sure.
6/2 has had no beneficial effect for us and I prefer 5/3. Unless you can do the same as SA and bring on guys who are clearly better to dominate the battle up front, I don't see the point.

What are the chances of me watching the Scotland game on TV without finding our the score of the Ireland game. Slim I guess.

Are they on the same channel? They are usually quite good at that kind of thing if the same channel

Not the same channel unfortunately, Scotland is on the BBC, the other STV. I guess I could watch both later in too enjoy both.

I doubt there will be a more obvious red all weekend. Horrendous piece of play.
What happened?
Scottish 9 kicking got hit late with a no arms tackle, no dip, shoulder straight to the head by (I think) a Welsh lock. It was a deliberate attempt at a dirty body check. Scottish 9 failed an HIA straight after.

Didn’t see all of it, but that’s a good win. Two deserved red cards for the Welsh lads and they looked to be starting all the pushing and shoving, and the ref thought that too I think given what he said near the end. Don’t like it up em captain.
Really impressed by the lads. I started watching it prepared to switch to the Falcons/Bath if it got too gruesome. More than a few really good prospects in the Scotland squad.

Good to hear. The news about our U20s is usually somewhere between dire and catastrophic, so some good news is great for once!
I’m going to miss the big game as I’m in Australia and I’ll be asleep. Probably for the best TBH.
