There wasn’t a bad player on the team tonight. What was it, 9 starters out injured? Then we lose Goosen before KO and the backs look iffy. But Harry Patterson had a great game and so did the lad who came on for McCann. I was worried about our bench, but TBH when all the subs came on, Edinburgh actually got the upper hand.Tichtheid wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 9:23 pm I know the result but I'm just catching up with the game. 23 minutes in.
Jamie Ritchie is a fucking warrior, it's a real shame we are losing him to potentially a ProD2 side

Nothing wrong with the psychology tonight. Letting the ball bounce was an error of judgement. Then the ball that bounced off the receiver was either bad communication or a very uncharacteristic lapse of concentration.Tichtheid wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 9:32 pmYr Alban wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 9:30 pmThere wasn’t a bad player on the team tonight. I hope he has some escape clause, because we cannot afford to have him not playing top flight rugby.
He looked great under the high ball, but he is seriously lacking pace for a young back three player. There is no professional future for such a slow winger. Fullback at a stretch, purely due to high ball skills, but Steward has shown that lacking pace is a fundamental obstacle for a back 3 player. He might end up a 12 or something. Patterson on the other hand looked excellent, great to watch him complete a game without getting injured, I’ve not seen that before from him.Tichtheid wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 11:01 pmYr Alban wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 10:37 pmHe is really coming back into form.Tichtheid wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 9:23 pm I know the result but I'm just catching up with the game. 23 minutes in.

We, Edinburgh, are okay with Douglas, McConnell, Currie coming in but Scotland need Ritchie playing top flight rugby. In the backs it was great to see my favourite Harry Paterson playing - long may he stay fit. Jack Brown looks the business too.
Also a massive fan of Paterson, he has it all and he alone would get me up to the Hive on a regular basisTichtheid wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 11:01 pmYr Alban wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 10:37 pmHe is really coming back into form.Tichtheid wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 9:23 pm I know the result but I'm just catching up with the game. 23 minutes in.

Freddie Steward is a good player. We don't like him because of how over the top the hype around him was for England, but if Brown is as good as Steward he'll be Edinburgh's starter for a decade at 15.Wylie Coyote wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 12:05 amHe looked great under the high ball, but he is seriously lacking pace for a young back three player. Not seen enough to comment on the pace properly but my thought last night was that he was being too tentative on his couple of breaks. If it is lack of pace rather than confidence then I agree he'll not make it as a winger.Wylie Coyote wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 12:05 amHe looked great under the high ball, but he is seriously lacking pace for a young back three player. That was exactly my thoughts last night, just seemed a bit tentative when he first came on. Not if Patterson stays, he is light years ahead of Brown with only a few more professional starts. Brown also looked noticeably slower than Steward whose own lack of pace and agility is exposed almost every time he plays for England.I like neeps wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 7:45 amFreddie Steward is a good player. I didn’t notice him being especially slow? He did well to beat the defender in his 1-on-1, was incredibly unlucky to get held up. I haven’t seen the footage yet, but I reckon the guy could attempt that tackle another 20 times without preventing the ball being grounded. It just wasn’t going to be Edinburgh’s night.Wylie Coyote wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 12:05 amHe looked great under the high ball, but he is seriously lacking pace for a young back three player. Brown is 19 years old and did well last night. Wouldn't be writing him off yet. The national selectors clearly like him as they have given him an A cap. Even struggling for numbers they could have selected another player.Wylie Coyote wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 12:38 pmNot if Patterson stays, he is light years ahead of Brown with only a few more professional starts. English 10 drops the ball, ref standing next to her somehow misses it, Scotland stop and England run it in. Exactly. People seem to want to write off a 19 year old in his second game, ridiculous comments from some folk on here, who seem to be such good talent scouts they know if someone can make it as a pro on the evidence of a single performance.Big D wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 4:11 pmBrown is 19 years old and did well last night. Paterson looks decent but we need to remember he is four years older than Brown and has lacked the important ability that is availability.
Both have a lot of work to do.
