I’ll be honest. I fell out of love with the Lions in the years when we had hardly any representation, and no Test Lions at all. It’s a representative side, after all, and I didn’t feel represented. Yes, I could accept we didn’t have a good team, but there were still good players in it who were passed over because they played for an unsuccessful international team. The real slap in the face was when we actually started winning again, still got hardly anyone picked, and were told by Gatland it was because we weren’t winning away from home. As if anyone was on a regular basis.

However, I still like the concept, and as long as we have even one or two guys who make the team (highly likely) then it makes it easier to get the buy-in.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

I’m hoping I’ve got past the GatlandIsACunt phase of the Lions and will enjoy the tests in the summer.

I’ll still find it hard to cheer on one or two players, but now that dirty cheating shite O'Mahony is gone it’ll be much easier.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

The general gist of all the rugby stuff that FB puts on my feed seems to be that everyone agrees Darcy should have been picked.

At some point Dobie is going to need to decide if he's a 9 or a wing. Now approaching 30% of his pro starts on the wing. It's not letting him be the best 9 he can be.

No Freddy again. Liam McConnell on the pine

Connacht’s starting front row have 697 appearances between them, 700 after this

1. Denis Buckley (263)
2. Dave Heffernan (217)
3. Finlay Bealham (217)

I think that it's been decided he's a winger. Starts more at wing than 9 these days, and he's starting at wing over front line wingers.

That's a shame. His road to regular international rugby is unlikely to be wing imo.

Yeah, he does a job for Glasgow on the wing because he is a very capable rugby player but his ceiling at scrum half is much higher.

I think his game time on the wing has much to do with previous injuries and Franco Smith's 6/2 selection policy, for the most part it has worked for the team. As a result Dobie has lots of minutes under his belt and has become a very versatile player.

Has this hampered his development as a scrum half? I don' know, but he's 23, soon to be 24 and was in the Scotland squad for the 6N as a 9 based on merit.

With 3 very good scrums halfs all needing game time-, and both Horne and Afshar really mainly being scrum halfs , the equation is always going to be difficult

Dobie has this season had 6 starts at S/H and 3 as S/H sub ( interestingly the exact same stats for wing this season ) Horne has had 13 starts, with Ashfar having 3 starts ,and 4 subs as S/H.

So both Horne and Dobie getting about the same amount of starts , but Horne having majority of the time at S/H.

Glasgow effectively on have 3 quality wingers in Steyn / Seba & Rowe , and with injuries & International call ups Glasgow have needed someone to step up - and Dobie fits the bill perfectly, and with Seba & Cordero probably off at the end of this season , the position is going to be further exacerbated

The reduction in squad size is putting a premium on multirole players.

Is Dobie now more of a winger - the stats actually say no - not yet anyway,

His stint as a winger has improved both his positioning, reading of the game and his defence has improved dramatically this year as well.

Actually, given Sharks vs Scarlets, Stormers vs Cardiff and Munster vs Bennett on, should be within Edinburgh's porous hands to make the quarters?

Connacht have already had a warning, albeit in the first half. That should really have been a yellow.
