That one was rumoured and poo-pooed a couple of months ago but the rumour seems to keep coming back. I’m not sure, on recent form, Hastings has it.
It has been confirmed

Ah cool, I thought it was a question. Interesting signing, he was roundly mocked as being a nepo-pick for ages and then suddenly this season he turned into the second coming of Dan carter. Can he show that kind of form at Glasgow and over the long term?

Yeah, sorry for my confusing post!

Edinburgh need a 10 more than Glasgow I’d say

We've lost Jordan (and Simpson) and will be without Sione and Jones for decent chunk of the season. I suppose there's also maybe some uncertainty around how quickly Weir will be available after his op (he's no spring chicken and all that). So, I can see why we've brought in two more 10s-who-can-play-12, at least one of whom could put real pressure on Hastings for the starting 10 spot. (and all that's before we get into Hastings' tendency to break....) Savala won't be on much either, I'd guess?

It will be interesting to see if Healy can get some form back this coming season.

Also worth noting that Savala picked up a long term knee injury almost immediately after his signing was announced. There has been no confirmation yet of how long he will be out for.

Giving a lot of the back up players a start. Must really not rate Aus.

I like the look of that back line - it could do some real damage. The forwards… that front row gives me The Fear. 8 caps across the tight five. There are players in there I rate, but they’re going to have to do a lot of growing up very fast. Maybe that’s the point though - we can’t gain or lose ranking points v the Māori, so this is the time to be experimental.

Edit: just noticed that George Turner has 17 more caps than the entire starting pack combined.

Non-capped per the SRU's preview.

A bit of classic Toonie selection there; Hutchinson doesn’t make the initial squad but gets a late call up where he then comes in as a starter. I find that a bit of a head scratcher tbh.

I’m not that astonished TBH. As discussed, this is the game where he can experiment without risking ranking points, so Currie was probably going to start. Now he can’t (obviously) so his replacement is getting a shot instead. Hutch must be well pissed off though - even when he gets a game, it’s never in his preferred position.

Plan will be for everyone to get a game on tour. He's come straight into the slot that Currie would have filled for the non-cap game with others held back for the capped games that count for ranking points.

I thought Currie was the form 13 from those initially picked for the tour

Redpath, McDowell, Jordan don't play much 13. Hutchinson has a chance with a good showing vs the Maori. This game is clearly a win a place next week match.

Jordan doesn't but for Glasgow, McDowall plays 13 when he's with Tuipulotu or Jordan, 12 when he's with Jones. Redpath has had regular game time at 13 for Bath this season. Steyn is an option as well.

I think the team for Fiji is probably already selected and it's largely based around the 13 players not included v the Maori, albeit White disappearing to Oz and Warr arriving late throws a spanner in the works at scrum half.

Other than scrum half, probably two starting slots to fill (could be from this week's replacements?) but plenty of opportunity to impress for next week's bench slots for the team that's playing against the Maori.
